The Samsung L730 is a high-resolution digital camera that is equipped with a true-color filtered 7.2-megapixel CCD. This allows the Samsung L730 to produce even better images and take detailed photos for printing up to poster size. In addition, the Samsung L730 has a 3x optical and 5x digital zoom, giving 15x total zoom when combined.

Face Recognition AF and AE
With the Face Recognition AF and AE function, the Samsung L730 enables the user to take better portrait pictures more easily. The function detects faces and automatically focuses on them; the brightness of the faces is adjusted optimally for beautiful portrait pictures.

2.5-inch Intelligent LCD
The Samsung L730 has a 2.5-inch LCD for improved contrast and color reproduction, allowing you to enjoy a wider and clearer image. Also The Samsung L730's Intelligent LCD automatically detects environmental illumination and adjusts LCD brightness for optimal image viewing.

Red-Eye Fix
The Red-Eye Fix function algorithm programmed into the camera automatically eliminates red eye in shoot and play modes, allowing you take a natural portrait photo.

ASR (Advanced Shake Reduction) System
The ASR technology prevents the degradation of image clarity and color which is sometimes found in flash photography. With ASR the effects of image blur are reduced in lower light conditions. You can even take well exposed, sharper pictures in low light condition without using a flash at all, which guarantees brighter and more natural pictures.

i-Movie (MPEG-4, SVGA Quality 800 x 592 size)
With the application of a new technology, it is possible to take movie recording in the SVGA quality (800 x 592) size which provides wider images than the VGA (600x480) size. As a result you can enjoy bigger movie on a PC as well as on TV. Dynamic movie played on a wide screen will double your pleasure.

ISO 1600 Support
Even when camera shake has been eliminated, a fast moving subject can cause the image to blur. The L730 supports ISO 1600 high sensitivity to give you super clear pictures with just the right amount of brightness, even when taking moving subjects under less-than-perfect lighting conditions.

Convenient Mode Dial
The user-friendly mode dial--with Night, Portrait, and Children modes--make it easier to get great shots of your subject by giving instant access to the appropriate mode for each individual situation. Children mode, with its open aperture and fast shutter speeds, lets you "freeze" children and other subjects in fast-moving action shots. Night mode automatically uses the slow synchronization function to help you get clearer and brighter pictures at night.

If you read my previous digicam review, you'll know that I am no stranger to consumer digicam. This Samsung L730 is my eleventh digicam, and I am very happy with it due to these 4 factors:

1) Price is very reasonable (I bought it for only US$156.5 in Nov 07)

2) Video quality is very, very good (it does MP4 video, slow and steady hand required).

3) Nightshot/low-light shot are good.

4) It has a manual option. Not full blown manual, but enough for prosumer.

Overall built is good, but of medium quality. Design wise is similar to other cameras in the higher price range plus some added improvements (sound & light notification, I thinks it's neat and thoughtful). The USB charge cable is also nicely designed, where it has charging light built into the Samsung propietary connector. Although, battery door is a little flimsy. If you decide to carry the digicam in its purse, you need to pull it out by the lanyard when you want to take it out, otherwise you will unlatch the batt-door when you grab it by the top and bottom sides.

Another negative point that a would be buyer should be aware of, is the action time to turn on and to shoot are, in my opinion, noticeably slower than other digicams that I've used.

Other than that, everything else is perfect. I would highly recommend this camera for:

1) People who appreciate value for the money.

2) People looking for high quality video camera (I chose this over Sanyo Xacti due to the fact that L730 does MP4 video in 800*600 pixel resolution in 20 fps. I don't see other affordable CCD-based digicam who can do this at the time of the writing).

P.S. Battery life has not been checked, since I just got this camera 3 days ago.

I used to be a fan of SONY products until they steadily increase their consumer products prices. IMHO: SAMSUNG is the New Sony in term of product quality and design (but with more reasonable prices).

I must say one thing about this camera; it's great. At first I felt disappointed. The camera felt too flimsy. I guest I am accustom to old heavy cluker cameras, but man was I fool. This little guy does a great job with pictures and not to mention videos.It will knock your socks off wend you see the video quality this thing can do. If you are looking for a good small quality camera I think this little guy can do the job, and for the price you cant go wrong.

Esta camara en verdad que es fantastica. Fotos increibles y su bateria recargable hacen que sea ligera y practica.

Espero que tomen esta opcion en cuenta a la hora de comprar una nueva o cambiar la que ya tienen.
