I love my Galaxy Tab. It replaced my laptop for the vast majority of tasks. I only go to my laptop for realy heavy lifting like recording music or writing. Now, thanks to this keyboard, I can cross writing off the list of things I need my laptop for.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab keyboard is great addition to the Galaxy Tab and I find myself using it a lot. It makes blogging a possibility with the combination of the WordPress app. It also makes writing long emails and bits like this review a lot better. Its usefullness goes further than writing, however.

I am a very keyboard centered person. On my computer I use shortcut keys and launchers to navigate without touching my mouse much. Android is a very keyboard friendly OS and everything is keyboard navigable. There are shortcut keys for searching, the home screen, the recent items, and lots more. I've found that interacting with my Galaxy Tab with a keyboard has greatly increased my productivity and enjoyment on the device. It has also allowed me to make good use of the terminal program and playing with BASH on my tablet has been awesome.

The keyboard does have a flaw and an omission. The omission is the lack of extra ports. I would expect USB host support, maybe HDMI out, or some other goodies. Being able to hook up an external hard drive, or maybe a mouse and monitor would have been incredible and the lack of, at very least, USB host support seems like a big miss. The flaw is actually pretty bad in my opinion. There's a bug in the Galaxy Tab software somewhere that causes audio over bluetooth to skip when using the keyboard. I use bluetooth headphones and am very disapointed in this bug. I reported it to Samsung and I hope they fix it quickly.

Overall the Galaxy Tab keyboard is an excellent addition to the Tab.

The product description isn't clear. I read the description and all the reviews carefully and it says that it is NOT compatible with Samsung Galaxy Tab PLUS, but it doesn't say it isn't compatible with the Tab 2 7.0
Well, if you also have a Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 don't buy this product because the tablet doesn't fit in the keyboard. It's a pitty that the seller doesn't state this, as I'm now out of the country, I'm not going back to the US for quite a long time and I've wasted the money. I feel completely swindled.

I had purchase a keyboard when I first bought my tab and it took me too long to sync the thing the first time and when I found out I would have to go through all that bother EVERY TIME I wanted to use it, I knew there HAD to be something better out there!! AND THERE WAS! This keyboard is awesome! Small, light-weight, functional, and USER FRIENDLY!

The only things I dislike...you can't use it in landscape orientation and I have to take it out of the Otter Box to use it. BUT, that's a small hassle to pay for AWESOMENESS!! I will be recommending this keyboard to my brother who also has a tab and TO EVERYONE ELSE THAT BUYS ONE!

Thank you SAMSUNG!

Pros:
- Great keyboard, easy to type on, feels good to use
- Good screen angle, easy to use on desk or (almost) as a laptop substitute

Cons:
- Mute button doesn't work
- Audio controls don't work with most music players (exceptions I found are the default player - ugh! and Winamp)
- The @ symbol appears when you use the the " key and vice versa
- The Language key is on the key marked as Settings, and vice versa
- No email hot key
- No customization of hotkeys or keyboards settings
- No cable included (some people said they got a cable so I assumed it had one)
- Requires you to turn off Swype if you dock
- The audio jack is an audio out - it sounds terrible on headphones.

If it wasn't so good to type on I would have sent it back - close, but no cigar.
-Mike

DO NOT buy this keyboard if you have a Tab 2 7.0!! The plastic piece that holds the tablet is too narrow and therefore the tablet does not fit. Ironically, the instructions for the new student edition Tab 2 7.0 that comes with the keyboard also comes with instructions on how to remove the plastic holder piece. If there were a way to buy just that piece, then you could theoretically swap it out on this keyboard to make it work. Don't see anywhere to purchase just the plastic piece.

I have had a Treo phone with an external keyboard for years, so when I got my Galaxy Tab I knew I'd need a keyboard.

Here's what I like, some of which may or may not be clear from the product description:

* There is a power socket on the side of the keyboard: just plug in your regular Samsung power supply cord and your Tab is powered up and recharging.
* The speaker line out jack on the back of the keyboard keeps speaker cables nicely tucked away instead of hanging off the top.
* The top "F" row keys replicate the keys you normally push on the tablet (Home, back, menu, search, etc), plus a few more that are quite useful (lock, internet, brighter/dimmer, louder/quieter/mute, music, video, play/pause, forward/backward, and a few others).
* If the onscreen keyboard pops up when you click on a text input area, there is a key that hides it so you quickly get all your screen back.
* Since the keyboard doesn't fold (my old one did), you can actually set it on your lap and use it as a laptop computer. The keyboard has enough heft to stay in place.

Shortcomings/Improvements needed:

* As others have said, it would be nice if the tablet could run in portrait mode to make web browsing possible. I mostly use the keyboard when I want to write something in Google Docs or word processor apps.
* When you plug in the keyboard, it switches from Swipe keyboard (if you are using it), so when you take your Tab out of the keyboard you'll have to turn back on the Swipe keyboard (if you want it).
* No pouch/case. I'll be making one for mine soon.
