5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic TV-great customer support
This is the best TV I have ever owned and if you are in the market for a 46" LCD, Amazon has a great price. I purchased mine back in October for $700 more than the current price - sometimes it pays to wait I guess. Sound, picture, features are all fantastic. After checking many review sites I went with this unit and am glad I did. The touch of color (TOC) is subtle...

3.0 out of 5 stars Great TV, But Beware of Electronics Expo!!!!!!!!, April 1, 2009
This review is from: Samsung Factory Refurbished LN46A860S2FXZA 46" 1080p LCD HD TV >> Free HDMI (Electronics)
I purchased this the 52 inch version of this product through Amazon from Electronics Expo. I received the TV on time, spent 5 hours setting it up with my home theater and making sure everything was perfect. The picture quality is absolutely amazing. 4 Days later while watching the basketball game, the TV made a loud popping noise and turned off. I was unable to get a picture after that. I contacted Electronics Expo thinking they would just send me a new one since the one I bought was defective. Boy, was I wrong. The person I spoke to went on for several minutes about their policy and made me feel like it was my fault the TV died. He said there was nothing they could do and asked me to call Samsung. I then contacted Samsung and was told they would need to send a service tech out to look at the TV but it would be about a week before he could come out. I had no choice so I waited, took the day off from work when he was scheduled and then he didn't even come out. He called me the day of and asked what the problem was and I told him. He said there was no need for him to come since he knew what was wrong with the TV. He said he would have to replace the panel but did not have any available and would have to order one. He said they would call me to re-schedule the service. It has now been 3 weeks and I am still without a TV. I have contacted Samsung and they tell me to call the local service center but when I do I get an answering machine. I tried contacting Electronics Expo to see if they could call Samsung on my behalf. I was made to feel like a nuisance but afetr talking to a supervisor she took my information and said she would call Samsung on my behalf and would call me back to let me know what they said. I never heard back from her. Needless to say, this purchase has been a nightmare. I had to send in my credit card payment for the purchase price of the TV already. It doesn't feel good paying over 2 grand for a product that doesn't work. I am not giving this TV a bad rating, it is a wonderful TV, but I feel its necessary to warn other people before they purchase through Electronics Expo.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic TV-great customer support, February 2, 2009

This is the best TV I have ever owned and if you are in the market for a 46" LCD, Amazon has a great price. I purchased mine back in October for $700 more than the current price - sometimes it pays to wait I guess. Sound, picture, features are all fantastic. After checking many review sites I went with this unit and am glad I did. The touch of color (TOC) is subtle but shows just enough to add a nice aesthetic look.

I rated this TV five stars although I did have a minor issue detailed below. Samsung took care of the issue and the overall TV has continued to please. The only negative, which I have to preface is known by Samsung and they take care of promptly is a rare "chipping" issue with the TOC frame setup on some of the 750s and 850/860s due to a few bad shipments (happened to mine). However, Samsung promptly fixed this free of charge with no known reoccurrence (as per the repairman that has done several of these repairs). Samsung's customer service, at least on LCD TVs, is outstanding with both email and phone call followups to insure that the customer is satisfied with the repair work. The repairman assigned by Samsung came out, replaced the entire TOC frame on the TV and I haven't had any other issues. As stated above, the actual electronics/LCD elements of this TV itself are fantastic and with Samsung readily and promptly fixing the frame issue, I still have to say that this was a great purchase.

The Super Bowl never looked better and the 120hz performed beautifully. Our friends couldn't get over the picture they were watching as the Steelers one upped the hapless Cardinals in fantastic receiving catches.

4.0 out of 5 stars great tv bad remote, March 24, 2009
By
This review is from: Samsung Factory Refurbished LN46A860S2FXZA 46" 1080p LCD HD TV >> Free HDMI (Electronics)
The LN46A860 has a great picture but has a less than adequate remote controller. The batteries in the remote only last a few weeks and I can not get it to control my Scientific Atlanta 4200HD cable box. I contacted Samsung tech support but they were unable to help. Great picture, bad remote and tech support.

5.0 out of 5 stars Consumer Reports "Best" march 2009, June 17, 2009

You might be able to find the March 2009 issue of Consumer Reports at your local library reference area. They scored tvs based on size category of 52", 46", and 30". In the 46" LCD category the 850 model was scored as BEST out of all tested 46" LCD televisions!!!

The 850 model is basically the same as this 860 model. It is just the touch of color frame that is different. I bought this model because the blue is much better looking than the red.

The picture quality is A+++ EXCELLENT. Even when I was using regular cheap $10 rabbit ear antenna to pick up channels 2 to 13, the picture looked super sharp and super realistic.

I have an Xbox 360 elite, and a Panasonic BD60 blu-ray player. Both devices work perfectly with this tv, and blu-ray movies look incredibly amazing!!!

You will definitely want to get a blu-ray player with this television. You may be tempted to purchase the Samsung 3600 player, but I should warn you that it cost a lot more than the above mentioned Panasonic player. I personally recommend the Panasonic because I have not had any technical issues with it, and the picture looks just as great as more expensive models.

Also, as of May 2009 most stores started to stock the "B" models instead of the "A" models. The B models are NEWER and they have a full black color frame. So you may want to consider one of those B models instead of this A860. But if you do decide to purchase this A860, you will definitely be happy with it. I love the one that I have.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Samsung Quality - Top Notch Value TV, April 17, 2009
This review is from: Samsung Factory Refurbished LN46A860S2FXZA 46" 1080p LCD HD TV >> Free HDMI (Electronics)
This TV is simply incredible. I purchased the 46" 860 instead of the 52" 750 based on the <2" thickness, the blue ToC instead of red, and price.

I did extensive research for several months before deciding on this TV, and I consider it to be the best electronic investment I have made to this day. The picture quality is superb, and it has the features I need without too many useless extras.

I will say the PC Share software isn't the most feature-rich program I have used, but it does the job. I shared over 15GB of photos and 50GB of music, and although it took the software all night to index the files when I first shared the folders, I was surprised at the speed at which I could surf through the files through the TV's Wiselink Pro interface (I was hoping for faster, but expected slower). My only complaint is that I cannot get the photos to display full screen, which doesn't make any sense to me because they are large, hi-res, digital images many of which are over 10MB in size.

Does anyone know whether the software upgrade can be performed via wired ethernet instead of using the USB wireless dongle or a USB flash drive? FYI - to find out firmware version navigate to the software upgrade option in the setup menu and press Info while it is highlighted.

6th Avenue sent the TV with original manufacturer box inside larger box with additional packaging materials. I have ordered numerous 32" and larger LCDs online before, and every one has been shipped in its original manufacturer box - I was very pleased with these guys. Also, I specifically avoided Electronics Expo based on the previous reviews, and considering I have had the TV for several weeks now with no problems, I am happy I did.

I purchased the motorized Samsung wall mount to see if it would work with this TV (says it's only designed for 2007 models, but have read many people have 2008 models working). It is not yet mounted, but once I do mount it (next week) I will write up a review on the wall mount (WMN5090).

If you are considering other TVs in the <$2000 price range and are not intent on getting the absolute biggest TV for the money, I recommend purchasing this TV instead of anything out there. You will not be disappointed (unless maybe you order from Electronics Expo).

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply the best!, February 20, 2009
This review is from: Samsung Factory Refurbished LN46A860S2FXZA 46" 1080p LCD HD TV >> Free HDMI (Electronics)
Pros: Looks gorgeous, works well and doesn't take a lot of space (very slim).
Cons: Gets a little hot when it's on and the remote doesn;t work well for a couple of seconds right when you turn the TV on. After that, it works just fine.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Samsung Factory Refurbished LN46A860S2FXZA 46" 1080p LCD HD TV >> Free HDMI (Electronics)
The picture and features are awsome! The only thing that this tv lacs is sound. The speakers are very weak and can't handle a lot of volume which is understandable given its dimensions. OneCall did a great job delivering the product to my home, not a single scratch on the box! It took longer then they said but overall it was worth waiting an extra day!

2.0 out of 5 stars Samsung LN46A860, February 5, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Samsung Factory Refurbished LN46A860S2FXZA 46" 1080p LCD HD TV >> Free HDMI (Electronics)
I have purchased the Samsung LN46A860 and it has been more than one week since we have this TV. The TV has very good picture (this is why I rated it 2 stars) , less glare than the 6 series that we also own (Samsung ln40A650). However, this TV has more issues than its predessors the 6 series and they are all discussed in the forum called: Samsung LN46A850/60 owners AVS forum.
1. Remote or infrared interference: When you turn the TV on, it interferes with all remotes and they won't work for a period of time about 2 minutes before they resume functions. The TV remote itself won't function for about 2 minutes untill the TV warms up.

2. Clouding: The TV forms clouds in the panel and you can see them when the picture is dark/or blackish. You see whitish clounds in some corners or throughout the panel.

These issues cannot be fixed by the company and basically you are stuck with a TV that Samsung tries to fix and cannot. So you waste your time for months with the company and finally they may reimburse your money or send you a new one. Some people may have a good TV and they do not have these issues but believe me go to the forum and you will realize that there are more TV' with these issues than you think. We paid good money and we expect better quality TV than what Samsung is giving us. I am debating whether to waste my time and try fixing the issues or just live with the problem and buy another TV when the LED come out this Spring from different manufacturer unless the new LED Samsung has no issues. 5.0 out of 5 stars 46" Samsung LCD TV, January 21, 2009

I purchased this TV because it was the highest rated 46" LCD TV by Consumer Reports. This unit is now installed in my bedroom. Using the product ratings by Consumer Reports was the same criteria that I used when I purchased a 50" Panasonic plasma TV for the family room several years ago. I have seen a lot of LCD's and Plasma TV's in my friends homes, but I would have to say that both of my units are far superior in picture quality. When it comes to electronics and / or appliances, I would always recommend consulting current ratings provided by Consumer Reports. It's too hard to see which TV is the best in a box store or online.

5.0 out of 5 stars Recently purchased 20090605, June 8, 2009
This review is from: Samsung Factory Refurbished LN46A860S2FXZA 46" 1080p LCD HD TV >> Free HDMI (Electronics)
While searching for a tv via various sites over a period of about 7 months I noticed a recurring theme- I became overly concerned with the negative feedback and starting ignoring good deals on great tvs. I then noticed that a lot of the negative feedback was either delivery related, service related or otherwise rare occurrence related. I then came to the realization that there will always be a chance that a product that you buy will be defective- that's life.
I had been tracking this tv for about 6 months and saw the price vary (on Amazon) from $1800 to about $2000. Ever since the new Samsung LED tvs arrived on the scene, the old top of the line HD LCD tvs have lowered in price. Perfect timing. I went through Crutchfield which has listed the price at $1,499.99- the lowest I have personally seen...ever.
So I finally pulled the trigger. FREE delivery, no sales tax, delievered within a week, perfect condition. 100% happy. Just a quick note, when I was doing my research I thought that some of the posts were from salesmen or written by a member of Samsung- please let me assure you that I'm just your average Joe who just purchased an amazing tv.

The good:
1. Excellent picture quality
2. Blue TOC matches my decor much better than the gaudy red TOC.
3. Easy setup.
4. The 120 Hz matched with the 4 ms refresh rate makes every channel so realistic it's scary. You can really notice the difference- makes every HD channel look like a blu ray disc.
5. Easy calibration- it is automated so you don't have to do anything. Best buy charges about $200 for calibration- ridiculous.
6. Extremely thin- amazing. I chose to mount this tv to a stand so the small depth allows me to push my stand very close to the wall to provide a "wall mounted effect" without the inconvenience of hiring an electrician to wire it up.

The "Bad":

1. The sound- please read further...I put "bad" in quotes here because the less than desirable portions of a tv of this caliber cannot really be considered "bad". For example, many posts suggest that the sound is "bad". Honestly, this tv is ultrathin so what kind of speakers will fit into a tv that thin? Garner expectations intelligently. Buy a Samsung soundbar. They are ultrathin and will give you ten times more bang for your buck than trying to rely on stock speakers in any flat screen tv.

Take my word for it, awesome tv. Awesome bang for your buck. Just remember, save yourself some time don't read the negatives.
