A little background on my love of smartphones - I used to be a major Apple fanboy from the first iphone to the iphone 5. Steve Jobs is still my hero. I made the switch when the Galaxy S4 came out, then moved to the HTC One, LG G2, Note 3, and now the Galaxy S5. I use two phones, one for work and one for personal use. I spent a decent amount of time with all of them and can say that most people would be happy with each and every flagship for daily use for 1-2 years at a minimum but most people come to read these reviews for the small details that make the major differences between just "okay" with your phone or "completely happy" with their device. I won't list out the specs of the phone since that type of info is listed everywhere. But this phone as well as the others listed here are spectacular at being fast, having good to great battery life, and all have good to great cameras. Probably the most polarizing topics of phones these days is the aesthetics, mainly due to the fact that hardware seems to have outpaced the software which means manufacturers cant really make phones noticeably faster than the previous generation. Okay I'll get to the review.

Metal vs. Plastic - The HTC One and the iPhone are made from mostly aluminum. Aluminum without question looks fantastic on phones. The colors also look much better on aluminum because they can be anodized giving them a rich and even color that just look great. The main problem with metal is, sure it looks great on day one, but the material is so hard that is super easy to scratch and nick without ever dropping it. I am the type of user who hates cases. They add thickness and overall just make the phone look ugly, and to top it all off, cases are 40 to 50 dollars for a piece of plastic(major rip off).

I moved over from an iPhone 5 and had been using Apple phones since the iPhone 4 came out. Previous to that I used an Android phone and at the time it seemed like Android was still in a building phase with the overall OS. Now a few years later and I'm back to Android with the Samsung Galaxy S5. I purchased mine through a Verizon store a few days ago and so far this phone rocks! The screen by itself is well worth the move from iPhone to Android. It's bigger, has a better picture, and works much better while outside in sunlight. The camera also takes much better pictures than the iPhone 5 I had previously. Video so far has also been a lot better with the 1080p quality it looks great even off the phone.

The OS is responsive and so far has not shown any sluggishness. I have had a couple of the apps the phone with crash once or twice but certainly nothing different than what I'd see on the iPhone every so often. The size of the Galaxy S5 is taking some getting used to. I would just slide my iPhone 5 into my back pocket most times and while I can do that still with the Galaxy S5 it is noticeably larger.

I'm also taking some time to adjust to the volume controls on the Samsung Galaxy S5. With my old iPhone 5 if you dropped the volume low all apps and such that made noise were at the same level. I found out in a meeting at work that isn't always the case with the Galaxy S5. A minor annoyance which I'm sure I can adjust to and figure out quickly enough.

All in all so far I'm very happy with my Samsung Galaxy S5 and would recommend it to anyone thinking about a switch.

I upgraded from the Galaxy S3 and I am very pleased with this phone, the more I mess around with it the more I like it.
Apps like S Health are now more focused than ever and the heart rate sensor is great thing even though tech reviewers try to play it off as a gimmick - this phone has literally made me want to be more active since I purchased it, the biometric scanner is a great addition as well that works perfectly for me 8/10 times.
Also great news is that upon typing this I found out that micro usb chargers still work with this phone (it's a USB 3.0 port that can also use a micro usb). No BS Apple move.
The feel of the phone is the best of the series. Yes it's plastic but it is definitely more upscale feeling to the touch while maintaining a light weight, and aesthetically both the front and back look great.
The screen is the best I've ever seen on a smartphone, crisp, colorful, and bright.
The camera is an important feature for me and I'm happy to say it doesn't disappoint - it's fast, takes great photos, the live HDR mode is awesome as well. The only thing i'm not sold on is the 16:9 aspect ratio being the only mode at 16mp. You can do a standard 4:3 aspect but at 12mp. But still not necessarily bad since mega pixels don't mean much compared to the actual sensor used.
The speaker is loud and clear, reception for both the phone and wifi is great too. Better than my S3 with the 4.3 update, on that note Kit Kat is awesome!
One last note, the IP67 rating/ water resistance and dust resistance is an amazing and welcome feature.

In summation:
If you're coming from an S3 then your contract is probably up this year, and this is an amazing upgrade to a phone I loved. It really wasn't even a question for me. Size, aesthetics, features, adding your own memory, and still being able to replace your own battery made this a clear choice over the HTC M8, and others.
