Absolutely a great projection HDTV.,
By Someone Somewhere (San Diego, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Samsung HCM4215WX 42-Inch HDTV-Ready Projection TV (Electronics)
I've had some worries of getting a projection TV. I thought the contrast as well as the brightness wouldn't be that good. However, after spending a week going through different online stores and electronic stores in my town I decided to try it. It is a great TV. It is a wide screen which makes it great for viewing DVD's, also it has great picture for regular cable TV. The extra connectors in the back make it possible for you to connect up to 5 different sources in such as VCR, DVD, cable, Satelite, computer.....I only have a couple HD channels available from my provider, but they are worth it, they really put the TV'c features to work. I would definetly reccomend this TV, it has a clear 42" screen, is HDTV ready and it is a good value for the money. There is alot more functions that I could talk about, but overall you have to try out this TV, its great. The only problems that I have encountered was that when I got the TV I had to spent like an hour trying to set it up, which was VERY annoying. Also I tried setting up different Universal remotes to control the TV, but they dont work all the time (they do on other TV's) so I just have to use the TV remote provided. Also, you cannot sit too far up or too far down when watching this TV because the contrast will totally change.

Worst investment EVER!!!,

I bought this Samsung 42" in Mid-October. The second day, the TV stopped working. I heard a small pop, the screen went black and I smelled something burning. Samsung sent me a new one three weeks later and were very cordial and friendly. Guess what though, that one blew too!!! To make matters worse they sent me the 4216W instead of the 4215W. It's the same tv only platnum colored instead of the dark gray. So now it doesn't match the stand. It's January and I'm still waiting for a replacement.

I bought this TV on Nov. 15, 2002, and I had the same problem as one of the other reviewers. All of a sudden, the TV turned off and there was a burning smell. The Samsung Customer Service Line said to unplud the TV and wait a half an hour and try it again. You shouldn't have to do this, right? I'm thinking I'd just take it back and replace it with the 40" Panasonic I had my eye on...

I bought this T.V a couple of weeks ago and just received it on the December 13th. It was set up and running fine. The brightness and picture quality were great. The sound was also good. My problems with this Samsung started on day 4. The set just quit working, kaput, dead. Push the on switch and hear an electronic "click" and that is it. This is the same thing that happened to my other Samsung but it took 7 years before it died. I had heard that Samsung had improved their products, but my experiance says no they haven't. Good luck to those of you who have purchaced one of these T.V.'s but I'm returning mine and buying a Toshiba 42".

Good TV, but expensive upgrades,
By "operatpk" (Denver, Colorado United States) - See all my reviews

I bought this television hoping for the best picture quality possible. But I learned you must have a progressive scan DVD player with ...monster cables to get good video picture and for HDTV resolution while watching television you must have a satellite dish with the [fairly costly]HDTV reciever. I love the widescreen aspect, but if you want to watch the regular square aspect you get grey bars on the left and right side of the set, instead of black, which would be better for lights out viewing. Although it is expensive and the upgrades are too, I would recomend this television for anyone in love with the wide aspect ratio. The upgrades can be purchased in steps as you desire better and better picture that fit your wants.

We have had this projection television for 7 years. About 3 years ago, it looked like we needed 3-D glasses to watch it. I cant remember the correct word, but basically, the tube was going. We paid $400 to replace it. Now, a meer 3 years later, the same thing has happened. Definately do a search on this product before you buy it. You will find plenty of people have had the same problem. I'm not replacing this again (another $400), I have switched to a completely different TV.

This is a defective model. Here is what you need to do...,

I've had this model for 6 years. It has died three times in those six years. Same symptoms as everyone else, including the pop and burning smell which is not normal (in case anyone has been told otherwise by Samsung). I have spent over 50 hours on the phone in the last 3 years. I had a 5 year warranty that I had paid a lot of money for that covered the 1st 2 repairs. In May of 2006 (before the warranty expired), I informed them that the model was defective. They basically told me to go to hell (indirectly, of course). No one is going to get anything accomplished by going through Samsung. Here's what you need to do: File a report with the Consumer Product Safety Commission (just Google the name and it's the first entry that comes up). If the CPSC receives enough complaints on this model, there will be a recall and/or a class action lawsuit filed against Samsung, who has already been sued for knowingly making a defective Blu-Ray player (just Google Samsung Blu-Ray lawsuit). Even if you don't have this model anymore, I urge anyone who did to file a report with the CPSC. Samsung needs to learn that they cannot take blatant advantage of their customers. Just to let everyone know, Samsung had someone take my tv three weeks ago (early Nov. 2008) to supposedly repair it, then told me they were going to exchange it, then told me I had to PAY for part of the exchange (???), and now refuse to send me an exchange or repair the tv. They have told the people who took it not to return it to me either. The local police department won't do anything, claiming that it doesn't fall under the guidelines of theft. Again, I urge you to file a report with the CPSC.

The Samsung HCM4215WX 42" HDTV-Ready Projection TV is an outstanding TV. I remember seeing this TV a few years back. The picture was very clean, crisp and sharp because the NTSC progressive-scan line doubling converts incoming analog sources to a progressive-scan image for a very good picture. You really do not see any scan lines. It is quite impressive.

I really wanted it to work!,

I love the look of this TV and it fit perfectly in my living room but after trying twice, I'm scared of getting that third one. The first one worked for four days and then started flickering. Then it just went blue (no cable signal) but the dvd worked fine. I got the second one and it didn't even turn on. I did notice a faint burning smell for a few seconds... I must now decide if I should go with the third. I think the previous reviews have convinced me not to. Better go with another brand!
