Product Description

Cinema Smooth 1080p Gen 6 Light Engine Samsung's Cinema Smooth light engine brings together the right optics, electronic ciruitry and replaceable light source to create a brilliant picture that's more lifelike and much closer film.Samsung's sixth generation (Gen-6) Cinema Smooth light engines release the maximum power of DLP microdisplays for a remarkably film-like picture. Faster Color Wheel Samsung's 2.6" color wheel spins at 10,800 rpm for smooth fast motion video, and has seven color segments for more accurate colors. It achieves film-like transitions without pixel breakup found in slower color wheel designs and slower switching LCD microdisplays. Air Bearing technology also makes it whisper quiet. Next Generation DLP Chips Samsung's DLP TVs employ the latest Digital Micromirror Devices (DMD). These new-generation microdisplays have switching speeds twice as fast as previous generations and up to 1,000 times faster than competing microdisplay technologies. When combined with Samsung's new Cinema Smooth 1080p light engine, the result is a crisp, bright picture with deep, rich colors that are closer to film. Samsung's DNIe(TM) - Digital Natural Image engine Samsung's Digital Natural Image engine makes the sharpest and clearest images possible, regardless of the profile of input signals. Its advanced image processors and six-times density enhancer help to create true-to-life colors and high contrast, while virtually eliminating digital artifacts.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Crown Jewel of your Home Theatre!, November 12, 2005
This review is from: Samsung HL-R6178W 61" 1080p DLP HDTV with Digital Cable Ready Tuner (Electronics)
I researched HDTV formats, specs, and prices all summer long, and my research kept pointing me back to Samsung's 2005 line of DLP TV's because they offered the best bang for the buck. This is the midrange unit in the 2005 line--they also sell a smaller 56" model, along with an enormous 67" beast!

The picture quality with an HD signal is simply stunning. During HD broadcasts of football games you can literally see the pebbling of the leather on the football. I own season tickets to Neyland Stadium (University of Tennessee), and I might not renew them next year--I'd prefer to watch the game on HD with this TV rather than drive three hours to Knoxville!

DVD's also look a lot better, although I'm thinking of upgrading to an HDMI-output player simply because of this TV. It has a cornucopia of inputs, from regular cable to S-video, Component video and the new HDMI standard. It even has a VGA port to turn it into a big-a$$ computer monitor. For those with a cable or satellite provider who will provide one, there's a CableCard PCMCIA slot so you can ditch the cable box.

If there's a downside to this TV, it's that this unit shows you just how bad standard TV broadcasts (SDTV) look in comparison to HDTV. I can hardly watch SDTV broadcasts anymore.

Finally, if you get one of these beauties, budget an additional $300 or so for the matching stand.

In short, I am in love with this TV. If you get one, you'll be clamoring for all the HD content you can get your hands on, because nothing else truly shows off the capabilities of this TV.

This set is really remarkable. The clarity is exceptional and the size of the TV is deceptive. It looks relatively small until the picture comes on the screen and then it is like being in your private movie theater.

I am enjoying this purchase very much.
