| Samsung's DNIe™ Samsung's DNIe™ (click for demo) technology offers digital perfection in naturally presented, crystal-clear images that uncover even the most minute detail. |
Motion Optimizer: The visual data are automatically broken down into signal and noise and adjusted through a combined spatial/temporal process to eliminate noise and blurring without the slightest damage to the original signal. This guarantees the viewer a picture of astounding sharpness, whether the scene is still or moving. |
![]() Contrast Enhancer: DNIe has done away with the unwanted side-effects that conventional contrast enhancement can produce, such as noise boost-up and flicker by developing an algorithm that recognizes over 1 million criteria for applying contrast. Its detail contrast enhancement technology can automatically analyze up to 70,000 local images within a frame, treating the viewer to a picture rich in contrast even in the tiniest details. |
![]() Color optimizer: For each scene the color optimizer calculates the saturation of red, green, and blue in the input signal and adjusts it to the shades that the human eye accepts as natural. Even a conventional process like white tone enhancement produces more striking results when when used with DNIe. The end result is a palette of vivid hues and pure white tones to satisfy the most discerning viewers eye. |
![]() Detail enhancer: Many viewers complain of the unnatural effect that conventional uniform detail enhancement produces by relying on artificial amplification of the input signal. In contrast, DNIe automatically analyzes the portion to be amplified, detecting and re-processing any noise or defect to bring the viewer a startlingly sharp and lifelike image. |
This Samsung DLP television employs a Texas Instruments DLP chip that is comprised of millions of microscopic mirrors. The DLP chip is faster than any HDTV technology, with the mirrors switching on and off 15,000 times a second to deliver a razor-sharp picture for fast moving images. It also offers Samsung's Cinema Smooth 720p light engine, which creates an image with no visible pixel structure and accurate shading and better low-light detail for the most film-like picture. You'll get up to a 2500:1 contrast ratio with outstanding colors and deep black levels.
The Samsung Digital Natural Image engine (DNIe) Video Enhancer refines all analog NTSC and wideband video inputs for an overall improvement in picture quality. DNIe improves contrast, white level, picture detail and incorporates digital noise reduction to improve lower quality video inputs. The 3-line digital comb filter constantly analyzes the three dimensions of picture height, picture width, and picture changes-over-time to dramatically reduce edge image artifacts while improving transition detail. Samsung's Cinema Smooth 3:2 pull-down film mode corrects for the artificial frames created when films are converted to DVDs. The result is a clearer image without the subtle motion artifacts caused by 24-to-30 frames per second video conversion.
Samsung's 2.6-inch color wheel spins at 14,400 rpm for smooth, fast motion video, and has five color segments for more accurate colors. It achieves film-like transitions without pixel breakup found in slower color wheel designs and slower switching LCD microdisplays. Air Bearing technology also makes it whisper quiet.
Samsung also worked closely with Microsoft to create a special Game Mode that optimizes image quality, sound and response time for more realistic video game play--with just a single touch of a button. The Game Mode enhances dark areas, sharpens the picture, speeds up the image processing response and enhances the sounds of your games.

Great TV, not sure what the previous poster is talking about,
By landale (Washington, DC) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Samsung HL-S5086W 50-Inch DLP HDTV (Electronics)
I have had this TV for the last 2 months and it has been fantastic. Sure you could get the 1080P model instead, which I will admit does have better picture but you'd end up paying at least $500 more for it. Given the ever dropping prices of these kinds of TV's I'd rather save that money and use it in a few years to upgrade when I have the room for something bigger and better.
I had extensively compared this model to the Toshiba 50HM66 and in stores I will say the Toshiba did look a bit better. Don't let yourself be fooled though, for some reason Toshiba always seems to do the best job of making their TV's look good right out of the box while Samsungs require some adjustments to get the best picture. Once you do all of this they will look very similar in regards to picture quality. In regards to the previous poster I will assume that he doesn't have the TV nor has done any research on it. This TV most definetly has a VGA input (although the competing Toshiba doesn't). Also you have been missinformed in regards to using HDMI to connect a computer. I have had a high end media center pc connected to my Samsung HL-S5086W using a DVI to HDMI cable and the picture is outstanding. Pretty much any computer with DVI out on the video card can be connected to this TV using a DVI to HDMI cable which can be picked up for ten dollars online, no other equipment needed. Overall I am very happy with this purchase and would completly recommend this TV to anyone on the market for an HDTV on a budget.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Samsung HL-S5086W 50-Inch DLP HDTV (Electronics)
I've had this TV for about 3 weeks now and have been extremely happy with it. Let me say first that if you have any reservations about ordering a big-ticket item from Amazon you should put them aside. The delivery service was very informative about my order and it was delivered on time (I live in the Chicagoland area). The TV was gently unpacked and placed unto the stand I had already purchased (it's the stand specifically for this TV). The only thing was they left the huge TV box so you have the responsibility to trash it. Not a problem.
Now the TV: The first thing you will notice is that it takes a good 30 seconds for the TV to warm up. Don't be alarmed. This actually caught me off guard the first few times I turned it on. The colors from HD are awesome. So much so that I actually thought they were almost too "bright" so I tweaked the settings to get it just right. Analog channels look OK, but HD is where this TV shines the most. I've watched a few DVDs (Kill Bill and Star Wars III: Return of the Sith) and am impressed with the quality of the picture. I can only imagine how HD DVD will look (although you have to remember that HD DVD natively will be at 1080p so my TV may not be as "sharp" at 720p, but to me there is a point of diminishing returns....) Audio is a little weak as others have stated and that is the reason why I didn't give the review 5 stars. I haven't hooked it up to my stereo system yet, but, to be honest, I'm not really watching TV for 5.1 sound anyway. Of course, I probably will change my mind once I do connect it. Overall, I'm extremely happy at the price of the TV (no taxes or delivery too),responsiveness of the delivery service, and the TV itself. I'll admit I was a bit hesitant to buy such an "expensive" item on Amazon, but the experience has left me very satisfied.

Look no further, this is IT.,

This review is from: Samsung HL-S5086W 50-Inch DLP HDTV (Electronics)
I've been watching and waiting for over 6 months before buying. I was certain I was going to get the Samsung DLP HDTV but which model I was unsure. After reading review after review I knew I wanted the option to turn off the DNIe feature. The HLS-5086w allows the option to turn it off if wanted and so I just recently purchased this TV.
I can't begin to say how much I'm pleasantly surprised by the incredible image and I'm only watching digital cable signals, not HD signals. I can't get the HD signal for a few days and will update this review at that time. This set is user friendly and offers all sorts of fine tuning to get the color exactly as you want it. I was under the mistaken belief that non HD programs would be grainy. Nothing could be further from the truth. Watching basic digital is a new exerience in clarity, picture 'pop', and general WOW factor. When I get the HD signal I know I'll be even more delighted with this set. This is by far the most bang for the buck HDTV available, in my opinion, and I've been researching for more than six months. To any that are considering purchasing a HD set, look no further than Samsung DLP. It is THE set to buy. I'm extremely happy with my purchase and the total exerience with Amazon. Edit: I now have the HD signal and I can't say enough about this set. The picture is amazing. HD programs are incredible. I've given this set a 5 star rating and if possible I'd go higher. I'm extremely happy with my Samsung DLP TV.
