5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Awesome!, November 29, 2005
This review is from: Samsung HLR7178W 71 Inch DLP Rear Projection HDTV (Electronics)
This TV is awesome. It's the best picture I've seen when viewing HD material for such a large screen size (6 ft diag.) I saw no pixelation viewing the screen and no rainbow effect at all (like some other DLP products out there). I stood inches away from the screen just for the heck of it to see if I would see pixelation; nothing. Very, very impressive. I was watching the Colts and Steelers Monday night football game and was awe-struck at how life-like the picture looked. When John Madden and Al Michaels did their pre-game assessements it looked like I had two big heads popping out of my TV set. LOL Talk about 3-D! All I can say is wow, I know there are more expensive sets out there that may boast different technology (Sony Qualia 006), but you can't go wrong with this set when you compare the bang for your buck. Simply Awesome!

1.0 out of 5 stars Samsung DLP Products are all Lemons, June 27, 2008

I own a Samsung 50 inch DLP. It was beautiful until I hooked my XBox up to it and almost the day after the warrenty was up, it broke. After googleing the "shut-off" problem, I found out it is a common issue with ALL Samsung DLPs; which sometimes they can't fix!!! I have no extended warrenty and am screwed.
Google samsung DLP problems before buying.

1.0 out of 5 stars Avoid Samsung DLPs - Trust me on this one, November 13, 2007
This review is from: Samsung HLR7178W 71 Inch DLP Rear Projection HDTV (Electronics)
As a long time audio/video-phile I have seen a lot of brands. So far Samsung appears to be about the worst when it comes to quality and supporting their products.

Do a google search for Samsung "light tunnel" problems to learn more. Samsung has been shipping defective DLP sets with light tunnel problems for years. It is well known and well documented.

If your set fails even ONE DAY after the warranty period they will ignore your complaint. I am currently involved in a pending class action law suit against Samsung over this issue.

Samsung knew about the problems and continued to ship set with the same problem. They also sent out replacement parts (refurbs) that HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. That means they simply delay the problem until the warranty expires and then say "It's no longer under warranty.".

Do yourself a favor, look at other brands. The Samsung does have a nice picture, but you will regret it.
