5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Looking Television, Awesome Price to Performance, May 2, 2007
By
This review is from: Samsung HLT4675S 46-Inch Slim 720p DLP HDTV (Electronics)
This TV was made for me. As far as HDTVs go, this was extremely inexpensive, it's lightweight, and really thin. The picture looks incredible, but the view angle is not terribly good (it gets pretty dark if you're outside of probably 120 degrees or so. The HDMI inputs are great, and the TV's comb filter does such an incredible job with 1080i on my Xbox360, you can't even tell that the picture has been interlaced (though there is a lot of shaking when I hooked up my PC and ran it in 1080i). The VGA input does a great job, and doesn't over scan the way the DVI/HDMI port does. The speakers a great and LOUD, but make sure to get yourself a nice surround sound set, it's worth the money. Overall, you can buy a better TV, but I'll be confounded if you can find a better price/performance deal that this one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Did you see the price!!!, July 10, 2007

This review is from: Samsung HLT4675S 46-Inch Slim 720p DLP HDTV (Electronics)
I have owned the Samsung HLT4675S for nearly a month and have been very pleased. What a bargain for only $860!! The high definition picture is incredible in both over the air HD broadcasts and through HD cable. I also purchased the Samsung HTTX75 home theater in a box system, and the upconverted signal is awesome on the television. I don't know how I've lived without HD up to this time. The 720p resolution has been totally satisfying. I don't think spending the extra money for a 1080p would be worth the money at the present time.

My only complaint about the television so far is the complexity of using the same remote for the Samsung television and the Samsung home theater system. I am contemplating buying a universal remote so I don't have to juggle three remotes (tv, home theater, cable) to watch what I want and control the volume. I have also noticed a slight high pitched whine from the television on occassion but my wife has been unable to hear the same sound. Both are minor inconveniences.

Finally, I would caution a potential buyer not to buy a television that is too big for their room. I owned an older 45" Mitsubishi and thought if I was going to buy a new television I might as well go bigger. I'm glad I did not. With the HD DLP's you need to make sure you can sit far enough away from the television so it does not appear overly pixelated. Had I gone with a larger set, there is no doubt I would not have experienced as clear a picture as I do with the 46" Samsung. In addition, due to the wide screen format of the new television, it seems huge compared to the Mitsubishi.

I give Amazon five stars for delivery and price. I ordered the television on a Thursday and it was delivered via UPS on Tuesday. Regarding price, I thought I got a killer deal when I bought the television for $960. A few weeks later, I noticed the price had dropped another $70 so I contacted Amazon. Within a day they had given me a credit for the full price drop pursuant to their post-purchase price guarantee. Excellent delivery time and customer service.

4.0 out of 5 stars "It's the meers", August 1, 2007

This review is from: Samsung HLT4675S 46-Inch Slim 720p DLP HDTV (Electronics)
After a LOT of online research, I decided on this line of DLP. Samsung seems to have the DLP market pretty much cornered with quality and features like "slim fit" and "ultra slim fit" tv's. Very lightweight (+/- 44 lbs.), I mounted mine on a large floating shelf.

Bottom line: This IS a DLP...there IS a color wheel, the IS a light bulb inside that WILL burn out over time (turn the brightness down a little bit to conserve bulb life), and if DOES have a cooling fan. The wheel motor is not audible when set is on. The fan is not audible when set is on, unless you put your ear near the vent. And the bulb, although seems archaic to change a bulb every year to 3 years, seems a lot easier to change a bulb and retain lossless picture quality while your friends have burned out pixels on plasmas and LCDs have their backlights dim overtime. Those are disposable sets.

Picture quality is only as good as the signal it receives. Some HD channels are better than others, simple as that. Standard def is good but not "WOW," but hey, this IS an HDTV. SD is no worse than any other older bigscreen.

The Good:
Stunning picture. HD is very nice....Discovery Earth HD is a good test for natural colorful scenes. HD movies are more cinema-like than any other microdisplay or fixed pixel display (LCD, plasma). I find plasmas to be "TOO" perfect and bright. Unnaturally so. LCDs remind me of watching tv on my laptop. DLP captures that natural tone that a cinema would. Very color accurate once the settings are fiddled with. Sports programming is where this set truly shines, which is primarily the purpose i bought this for. Getting very excited for football season, but will deal with baseball right now. The detailed grass, individual pebbles in the dirt infield, bright white home team unis....etc.... Although this is only a 720p set, this is the best native resolution to have for sports. Almost all sports channels are broadcast in 720p (espn, fsn, abc, etc...) as opposed to higher resolutions as it is faster to capture motion. This paired with the very quick DLP chip, and you'll forget all about your friends' picture-frame overpriced plasma.

The Bad
Not much here, just picking at it. If researching this product, although you may read elsewhere, this set has no "cinema mode" or "my color control". I was actually looking forward to the latter feature, but oh well. I believe this is the primary difference between this model and the HLS-4675s. Minute but nonetheless misleading. Also, due to the bright bulb used to illuminate the screen, light pollution escapes out the fan vent on the left rear of the set. It casts a bluish white light. Only really noticeable when in full dark room, but not a big deal. I put a flourescent back light (warm white) behind the set for watching the tv in the dark to reduce eye strain and actually improves the eye's ability to process the picture quality. SO....the warm white cancels out the byproduct of lighting the screen.
