Fantastic Looking Television, Awesome Price to Performance,
By
This review is from: Samsung HLT4675S 46-Inch Slim 720p DLP HDTV (Electronics)
This TV was made for me. As far as HDTVs go, this was extremely inexpensive, it's lightweight, and really thin. The picture looks incredible, but the view angle is not terribly good (it gets pretty dark if you're outside of probably 120 degrees or so. The HDMI inputs are great, and the TV's comb filter does such an incredible job with 1080i on my Xbox360, you can't even tell that the picture has been interlaced (though there is a lot of shaking when I hooked up my PC and ran it in 1080i). The VGA input does a great job, and doesn't over scan the way the DVI/HDMI port does. The speakers a great and LOUD, but make sure to get yourself a nice surround sound set, it's worth the money. Overall, you can buy a better TV, but I'll be confounded if you can find a better price/performance deal that this one.

I have owned the Samsung HLT4675S for nearly a month and have been very pleased. What a bargain for only $860!! The high definition picture is incredible in both over the air HD broadcasts and through HD cable. I also purchased the Samsung HTTX75 home theater in a box system, and the upconverted signal is awesome on the television. I don't know how I've lived without HD up to this time. The 720p resolution has been totally satisfying. I don't think spending the extra money for a 1080p would be worth the money at the present time.
My only complaint about the television so far is the complexity of using the same remote for the Samsung television and the Samsung home theater system. I am contemplating buying a universal remote so I don't have to juggle three remotes (tv, home theater, cable) to watch what I want and control the volume. I have also noticed a slight high pitched whine from the television on occassion but my wife has been unable to hear the same sound. Both are minor inconveniences. Finally, I would caution a potential buyer not to buy a television that is too big for their room. I owned an older 45" Mitsubishi and thought if I was going to buy a new television I might as well go bigger. I'm glad I did not. With the HD DLP's you need to make sure you can sit far enough away from the television so it does not appear overly pixelated. Had I gone with a larger set, there is no doubt I would not have experienced as clear a picture as I do with the 46" Samsung. In addition, due to the wide screen format of the new television, it seems huge compared to the Mitsubishi. I give Amazon five stars for delivery and price. I ordered the television on a Thursday and it was delivered via UPS on Tuesday. Regarding price, I thought I got a killer deal when I bought the television for $960. A few weeks later, I noticed the price had dropped another $70 so I contacted Amazon. Within a day they had given me a credit for the full price drop pursuant to their post-purchase price guarantee. Excellent delivery time and customer service.

After a LOT of online research, I decided on this line of DLP. Samsung seems to have the DLP market pretty much cornered with quality and features like "slim fit" and "ultra slim fit" tv's. Very lightweight (+/- 44 lbs.), I mounted mine on a large floating shelf.
Bottom line: This IS a DLP...there IS a color wheel, the IS a light bulb inside that WILL burn out over time (turn the brightness down a little bit to conserve bulb life), and if DOES have a cooling fan. The wheel motor is not audible when set is on. The fan is not audible when set is on, unless you put your ear near the vent. And the bulb, although seems archaic to change a bulb every year to 3 years, seems a lot easier to change a bulb and retain lossless picture quality while your friends have burned out pixels on plasmas and LCDs have their backlights dim overtime. Those are disposable sets. Picture quality is only as good as the signal it receives. Some HD channels are better than others, simple as that. Standard def is good but not "WOW," but hey, this IS an HDTV. SD is no worse than any other older bigscreen. The Good: Stunning picture. HD is very nice....Discovery Earth HD is a good test for natural colorful scenes. HD movies are more cinema-like than any other microdisplay or fixed pixel display (LCD, plasma). I find plasmas to be "TOO" perfect and bright. Unnaturally so. LCDs remind me of watching tv on my laptop. DLP captures that natural tone that a cinema would. Very color accurate once the settings are fiddled with. Sports programming is where this set truly shines, which is primarily the purpose i bought this for. Getting very excited for football season, but will deal with baseball right now. The detailed grass, individual pebbles in the dirt infield, bright white home team unis....etc.... Although this is only a 720p set, this is the best native resolution to have for sports. Almost all sports channels are broadcast in 720p (espn, fsn, abc, etc...) as opposed to higher resolutions as it is faster to capture motion. This paired with the very quick DLP chip, and you'll forget all about your friends' picture-frame overpriced plasma. The Bad Not much here, just picking at it. If researching this product, although you may read elsewhere, this set has no "cinema mode" or "my color control". I was actually looking forward to the latter feature, but oh well. I believe this is the primary difference between this model and the HLS-4675s. Minute but nonetheless misleading. Also, due to the bright bulb used to illuminate the screen, light pollution escapes out the fan vent on the left rear of the set. It casts a bluish white light. Only really noticeable when in full dark room, but not a big deal. I put a flourescent back light (warm white) behind the set for watching the tv in the dark to reduce eye strain and actually improves the eye's ability to process the picture quality. SO....the warm white cancels out the byproduct of lighting the screen.

I did a little bit of searching around...I was in the ballpark of spending around a $1000 or so and headed off to BestBuy. I had a 12% off coupon so i figured now was a better time then any...i got a $200 stand and the TV for about $1300 bucks so i was fairly happy with it...now i'll talk about the performance.
SDTV - standard definition is respectable...sometimes it gets a little grainy...but all and all it is livable and its really not THAT bad...you can tweek the picture by messing with the cable box settings as well...i have a Comcast DVR setup and i chose 480i for the 4:3 override which fills up the screen. 480i vs 480p i think that the 480i personally looks better on this TV then the 480p. The 480p looked grainy and not as sharp as the 480i...so try it! HDTV - The HD channels look freakin awesome...this is where this TV shines and the XBOX 360 looks really good as well...there is some silk screen affects however but thats only in some very rare occurrances. Leave the settings on standard and mess with them from there usually there OK but if you want to make it look a little better mess with the color and brightness those are the big ones. Make sure you configure the settings in your HD cable box to support your native resolution (720p)...this is for all HDTV's as well Overall - You really cannot beat this TV from any other manufacturer...you get the Samsung name, 46" inches at 720p and for about $1100...its lightweight and doesn't take up a lot of room...so overall i'm am pretty happy with it and i'm sure you will be too...everyone else that complains about the picture and blah blah is a baby and to remind themselves that this isn't a $3000 TV its for consumers who want a big screen HDTV for under $1000...now thats a steal in itself I'll keep this for a few years and probably upgrade to a LCD HDTV but for now i am very happy with my purchase its a great TV

I bought this TV after seeing a friend's 42" Samsung. Samsung is one of the most well-known manufacturers of DLP TVs and that was what made me look at these in the first place. In the interest of writing a short review I'm going to do a quick pro/con/conclusion:
Pros - Very bright picture - Great color depth - No pixel spacing like in LCDs - LOTS of inputs (and input names are customizable in the menu interface) - Very light (as in pounds) - SlimDepth - Great for gaming (14,400rpm color wheel eliminates image ghosting and artifacts) - Native HD resolution Cons - Not a very wide viewing angle, make sure your couches are within 30 degrees left or right of center or the picture will fade just a bit - Only 720p - Control buttons on the side of the TV make it hard sometimes to see what button you're pushing without using the remote Conclusion Despite the cons listed (which are really nothing, I'm just a picky tech geek) this is a great TV. Samsung DLPs are high quality, look great, and will last a long time. 720p HDTV is amazing to look at regardless if I put it in pro or con. If you purchase this TV I guarantee you will like what you get. I am very happy with my purchase.

Great TV!,
This review is from: Samsung HLT4675S 46-Inch Slim 720p DLP HDTV (Electronics)
We got this one to replace a 27" CRT. It is everything that is we've read about and more. No screendoor effect that came with the LCDs we saw in the stores. Plugged in our regular cable and it looks great to us! If we could've afforded it, we probably would've gotten a 1080p DLP with LED engine, but this will more than satisfy us for now.

Wonderful TV,
This review is from: Samsung HLT4675S 46-Inch Slim 720p DLP HDTV (Electronics)
I bought this Samsung HLT 4675S TV about a month and a half ago. This TV has exceeded my expectations. It has beautiful picture quality, the on-screen user guide is easy to use. The Audio/Video, HDMI and PC inputs in the back of the TV are very easy to use. The TV is very very light weight, enabling for easy installation and adding components without having to unhook everything.
Watching HD DVD movies and HD channels are wonderful in this TV. I can't wait for the NFL season to start so that i can watch NFL games in HD. Pros: Beautiful picture quality especially for HD channels. Can't beat the price from Amazon. Excellent customer service. Ease of use of on-screen guide. TV is very lightweight. Cons:Factory preset brightness, contrast and color are not set well. Will take time to adjust then to your personal liking. Sound lag is noticeable when using sorround sound with a receiver Overall: If you are looking for a HDTV for a reasonable price, THIS IS YOUR TV. You can't go wrong with Samsung. Get as much HD channels from your cable or satellite provider, and you will be amazed with the picture quality. Thanks

worked for 2 years and 4 months,

Worked for 2 years and 4 months. Has been a great television, I thought so highly of the Samsung brand I even recently bought a lcd flat panel for my computer, but now there are white pixels starting to pop up on the screen. 1 yesterday, two more to day. After some research on various tech board, I am not the only one with this problem. Samsung is not willing to fix it as it as out of warranty, but when hundreds of people are facing the same problem after about 2 years the problem is in the product. Us Samsung customers should come together and face Samsung and make them aware of the DLP white pixel of dead. Three pixels are not so bad? They will multiply according to other owners into the hundred or more. I call for all Samsung DLP projection television owners with the same problem to call and call Samsung to make us be heard, if that fails CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT!!!!! My next television will NOT be Samsung due to there poor customer support!!! This item should be recalled and repaired at no cost. This television should have lasted me 5-7 years or more not 2 years and 4 months, not for the $1200 I forked over for it.

Before buying this set, I had already checked out a number of HD sets by going to many of the typical big brick and mortar stores, and found the Samsung to be a superior set. When the price fit my budget, I pounced, and have not been sorry at all. The DLP engine is really worry free so far, and the picture is beautiful. My living room is a bit dim in the first place but we have not had any problems seeing the image during the day or with lights on in the room. The color is rich and bright, and the 720p resolution is fantastic. I had previously looked at a Sony rear projection side by side, but the Samsung set was superior in color, contrast, brightness and apparent resolution. LCD really does produce the "Screendoor" effect, but this DLP engine does away with that. Images are smooth, resolution is crisp, and the picture is fantastic. My standard DVD player looks great on this set without doing any upconverting. And broadcast HD signals- well, I just watched the Steelers' first preseason game in HD- WOW! Get this set!
UPDATE (sept 19th 2010): Three years into owning this set- I am now buying my second lamp for this god-forsaken device. I am very angry that I have paid for two more lamps and Samsung is not wining any loyalty from me. I recommend not buying a rear projection TV as the projector lamp is truly an achille's heel. SECOND UPDATE: Jan, 2011 After the initial problems with the lamp, then the DLP engine started producing white spots on the screen, permanent ones. Then flickering black dots soon followed, also permanent. I did some hunting on the interwebzes and discovered that the White Dot problem on these TVs is a known issue, and that Samsung had replaced the engines on these TVs FOR FREE! for myriad customers who had the same White Dot issue. I called Samsung customer care (1800 Samsung) and they didn't even bat an eyelash. Scheduled a repairman right away. He is here right now replacing the engine! AT NO COST TO ME!!!! Samsung really got this one right. They have rescued themselves in my view- this was the right thing to do and a good customer experience. BUT... if this was a know issue there should have been a contact initiated about either a recall or otherwise. but feel pretty good about being able to resolve it without extra dough.

started smoking, burning after only 3 months!,
By Jennifer L. "Jennifer L." (Dallas, TX) - See all my reviews

I have only had my TV 3 months and Best Buy has already done 2 repairs on it- once for a new bulb and the other day had the whole "engine" replaced. Not sure what that means but they told me basically I had a whole new tv now. That was on Saturday. Well, on Monday (tonight) I watched it for about 1 hour when I smelled something burning, heard a hissing noise, and then smoke came pouring out the back of it. Thank god I was home so that it didnt catch my house on fire. Best Buy is going to replace it; we'll see how it does then. By the way, for the short time that it DID work, it had a great picture but narrow viewing angle.
