Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

Manufacturer's Description The compact, lightweight Samsung HMX-H105 32 GB SSD camcorder takes video at the highest digital visual resolution available today, 1920 x 1080 Full HD. 1920 x 1080 Full HD video means much greater clarity, brightness and detail than ever before. It also means that your video will be an exact pixel-by-pixel match for today’s very best large screen HDTVs. The result is life-like video with more natural color and clarity, without the blurring or digital noise you might well be used to. Samsung’s H-Series of full-HD digital camcorders set a new standard for style and performance. Samsung’s renowned SSD technology offers a substantial advantage over the use of Hard Disk Drives (HDD) in a digital camcorder, providing consumers with higher performing and more durable internal memory. Samsung’s SSD technology is more lightweight and compact, operates silently with very low heat emission, and features no moving parts, which significantly reduces overall power consumption and enhances reliability. No moving parts also make SSD technology more durable and resistant to shock and vibrations. Additionally, Samsung’s SSD technology is faster than HDD, including quicker boot-up and read/write speeds.

Samsung H105 Highlights

Samsung H-series camcorder highlights
4:3 recording, 6:9 output vs. 16:9 recording, 16:9 output
Progressive HD (1920 x 1080 Full HD)
Samsung’s HMX-H105 delivers the very highest quality video by using progressive scan technology. It records HD quality video in progressive mode (30fps), so that the video is crisp and clear, regardless of how fast the subject is moving. Progressive scan technology produces smooth images even when videos are played back at 2x, 4x or even 8x the normal speed!

37mm wide-angle lens (Schneider's Varioplan-HD lens)
A 37mm wide-angle lens, fitted to a camcorder, allows you to experience a new world of images. The world-class Schneider lens is specially designed to produce clear and vivid images by correcting chromatic aberration and distortion. Unlike other camcorders offering a typical angle of view of 40 - 50 mm, a wide angle view of 37mm provides wider and richer images from the same distance. Enjoy the world of dynamic, exceptional images brought to you by 37mm!
Samsung H-series camcorder highlights
The wide angle view of 37mm delivers the big picture

Time Lapse Recording
By setting time intervals for frame capture, you can take full advantage of the Time Lapse Recording function. This feature uses selective frame capture to record over an extended period of time so that you can see the effects of long term recording condensed into a shorter time frame. Imagine seeing the slow passage of clouds through the sky or a sunset over the water in only a few minutes.

Swivel Hand-Grip
Samsung’s unique Swivel Hand-Grip design makes shooting difficult angles a snap. With a flick of the wrist, you can change the shoot angle of the camcorder to take the perfect video every time-all with one hand! The ergonomic design will open new doors to the way you shoot video.

What's Solid State Drive (SSD)?

Samsung H-series camcorder highlights
SSD (Solid State Drive)
  • A data storage device that uses solid-state memory to store data forever.
  • Superior to Hard Drive Camcorders in speed, security, size, reliability, power consumption and noise emission.
  • With no moving parts, solid-state drives are silent and inherently less fragile than Hard Drives.
Super Storage
  • Larger flash capacities available
  • Compact and Light
SSD is 7 times smaller and 12 times lighter than 1.8-inch Hard Drive

Low Power Consumption
SSD requires approx. 8 times lower power consumption than a Hard Drive when reading or writing data. This means less energy consumption, and longer battery life.

Super Security
  • Samsung’s SSD has no moving parts, therefore is less fragile and more secure than Hard Drive Camcorders
  • Anti-shock and Vibration Memory camcorders keep recording despite shocks and vibrations long after competitors' camcorders stop.
  • Can repeat write and erase data more than a million times on SSD--4x more than Hard Drive
  • High capacity SSD provides longer use utilizing ‘Wear Leveling’ technology
  • Wear Leveling: a brand new technology arranging data so that erasures and re-writes are distributed evenly across the memory
  • Maximum life of SSD is 1 million hours, i.e. 134 years
Super Speed
  • Fast processing time and reliable data storage utilizing exclusive controller chipset
  • Boot up and access time of Samsung’s SSD camcorder is 3x faster than Hard Drives
  • Faster access time means managing your files is much easier
Works normally in extreme high or low temperatures
  • SSD camcorder continues to work even in extreme high/low temperatures
  • Hard Drive camcorders do not operate normally in low temperature below 14°F and in high temperature above 150°F
Reliability
  • Simple structure without any mechanical parts
  • Strong against shock and vibration
  • Life-long use
  • Reliable data storage
No noise, low heat emission
  • There is no acoustic noise and little heat emission when the SSD operates.
  • Elimination of noise, vibration and high temperature make for a much more comfortable recording experience.

2.0 out of 5 stars No 30p, and too expensive without it, August 5, 2009
This review is from: Samsung HMX-H105 High-Def SSD Flash Memory Camcorder with 32 GB Memory and 10x Optical Zoom (Electronics)
I spoke with Samsung and confirmed that this camera does not do 1080 at 30p or any other progressive scan mode. After going through several levels of support and pointing them to their own website, I was told by a Product Specialist that the description of this camera is incorrect on their website (and on Amazon) and is actually the description of another product. I'm not sure what other product it would be describing but I find that a little troubling to say the least-- if you can't trust the company's website for information on a product, there aren't many options for good research. Without that ability, I find this camera too expensive for what it does do and intend to return it.

It has been a month since I brought this to their attention and they have not updated their information but reconfirmed the error to me by phone.

1080i is unusable-- the interlace artifacts are unbearable even in outdoor lighting. The image quality is ok at 720p, though the anti-shake is weak and the low light performance is marginal. Video from a moderately lit restaurant, for example, is grainy and underexposed. The wide angle view is nice for indoor shots where you couldn't back up enough otherwise. Being able to take photos while filming is a nice, but standard, feature. The stills are 2MP and comparable to pictures from a still camera of the same resolution. The 4.7MP stills are just interpolated up and don't serve to do anything but consume extra storage space.

I do like the dual flash option. All of our recording was to the SSD, for which 32GB was ample, but having an SD option as well is a nice fallback.

The camera itself is well built, and battery life was just fine. Never went through more than two batteries in a day capturing 3-5 hours of video. I do wish companies would standardize on charger plugs-- but Samsung isn't unique in this. Interface is acceptable and reasonably responsive. Form factor of the camera is nice, though I'd like a better way of holding it comfortably below my shoulders, looking down at the display.

In summary, Samsung picked the wrong sensor chip to put in an otherwise nice camera. For what it can do, it's not a $700 camera.

This is a low value camcorder. It has no AV input, no microphone input, no built in light, no quick review, no viewfinder to use when the sunlight is too bright to see the lcd screen. No s-video output, no FireWire port, and no headphone output to make sure your capturing the sound you want.
A lot of no's for a camcorder selling in the higher end price range.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Samsung HMX-H105 High-Def SSD Flash Memory Camcorder with 32 GB Memory and 10x Optical Zoom (Electronics)
Bought this one last X'mas for my sister. She was shocked by the picture quality. I have a JVC one, but I think Samsung one is better. And it comes with 32GB storage space. You don't need to buy SDHC card for it. And the software comes with it is very easy to use too. Just connect it with your computer, and then it will ask you to install the software. I don't know how they make it. Maybe it has been stored inside the machine.

There is only one issue about the battery. When you close the screen, the power should be turned off in minutes. But this one doesn't. It is still on. So the battery will run out very soon. Just remember to turn the power off after you use it. Do not just close the screen, and then put it into your bag.
