Customer Reviews

Really is a quality peice of equipment.
Jeffrey Higgins
The highs and lows are produced well enough but it is in the middle of the sound range where the system comes up short.
Hitmanray
I solved a bit of this issue by swapping out my Sony speakers for the rear speakers as well as the center speaker.

***UPDATE - NOV 2, 2014 - 4 STARS***

I have been living with the Samsung HT-H7730 for 4 months now and wanted to return to update my review of this product. The original review where I rated the system 5 stars is below.

At this point I have decided to reduce my rating of the system. Reasons for the change along with further impressions are below:

Overall Sound Experience - 4 Stars:
Let me be clear on one thing, the Samsung system is a very very good home theatre system. The quality of sound reproduction is great and the speakers do completely disappear into the environment. Only occasionally (mostly with sound coming from the rears) am I able to specifically identify a sound as being generated by a certain speaker. This provides a great level of immersion in whatever you are watching without any distraction from individual sounds originating from various locations.

In my original review I had hoped that with time the sound stage (the overall area where the sound seems to come from) would open up and increase in size. This unfortunately has not happened. The Samsung system produces very good sound but it is limited to a narrow soundstage within the placement of the speakers. The very best separates systems will be able to create a soundstage that seems to extend beyond the speaker placement location.

Also I see no benefit from the front height speakers. These are located in the tower speakers and supposedly provide a vertical element to the sound reproduction. Would I notice if they weren't there? I doubt it. I just can't identify any part of the sound field being above or below any other part.

I bought this system to replace my Sony system, which is very similar (with the rear wireless speakers). The Sony system needed to be replaced because the customer service from Sony is beyond sub-par and they did not do a good job fixing the unit when it broke even though it was under warranty. So knowing I didn't want to deal with Sony on a product of this price, I decided to try Samsung.

Overall, the product has promise, but it fails in the software department.

The Speakers: First of all, how are the speakers. I can honestly say that my Sony 5.1 System blows these speakers out of the water even though this is a 7.1 system. The center speaker on the Samsung sounds really tinny, and the rear surround sound speakers are not large/powerful enough to truly envelope you in the movie/TV show. I solved a bit of this issue by swapping out my Sony speakers for the rear speakers as well as the center speaker. I do have it sounding decent now, but I believe the Sony has the far better sound (too bad their customer service when things go wrong is non-existent). I suppose if you didn't have two of these systems to compare, you wouldn't know the difference.

The Interface: I'm not a fan of the design of the interface as there are a bunch of apps (looks likes Windows 8) taking up the screen that I do not use and cannot move around. Luckily, Netflix and AmazonPrime are "suggested" apps on the first screen, otherwise, I'd have to dig to find them each time.

Netflix Issues: This unit does not play well with Netflix. It will randomly tell me Netflix is unavailable or is having problems playing the title when my other blu-ray player and other devices have no issues.

Hello peeps I bought this to replace my 1000 watt pioneer surround sound I've had for 8 years.Im so happy with this product.I can't even bring this sucker up halfway because it's so loud lol.The Bluetooth works about 20 ft away, blue ray is fast no waiting 20 to 40 seconds to load movies or netflix, gaming sound shakes my house, and the sound is clear and amazing. The only problem I have is that the back left and right speaker wires are a little short but to be fair the back of my livingroom has a doorway so I have to go around my frame to hide it.I love it and if your are looking for a high quality surround sound for less then a 1000.00 this is it!!!!!!

The only reason this product is getting 4 star is because of documentation and support.

I added this HTS to my Samsung 64" 3D Plasma TV (PN64F5500) hoping to greatly simplify operation of my TV and sound system for my non-tech wife and 81 yr old father that doesn't like too many steps to watching TV. I was thrilled that the HTS supported Audio Return Channel (ARC) on the HDMI cable coming from the HTS. This seemed to greatly simplify the hookup between TV and HTS, but the sound didn't sound too good!!!!

When playing Blu-Ray or DVD directly into the TV, the sound was fabulous, rich sounding, but when watching Cable TV, even though my Cable Setup box said that a channel I was watching was 5.1, I could only hear the front speakers and it wasn't very "rich" sounding. After spending a couple of hours trying to explain to someone many thousands of miles away who could only seem to be able to follow a script, I described that I was connecting a Cable setup box to the TV (gee, not that uncommon a thing to do) and that I was relying on the HDMI ARC to properly Return the Audio back to the HTS.

Finally, after two or three calls to Samsung, in desperation, I hooked the Cable Setup Box directly to the HTS, both Video and Audio. It sounded GREAT!!! But this configuration relied on many steps to view Cable through the HTS, something my wife and dad would not be able to do every time they wanted to watch TV.

On the next call to Samsung, I explained that the sound was much better when connected directly to the HTS, but I didn't want to deal with the hassle of using controls to access the HDMI 1 input of the HTS to watch Cable.
