Surrounded by sound for ultimate 1980s revisit,

My husband got cancer so we got a home theater system. What else would you do if you expect to spend a great portion of the next six months at home on the sofa? Mind you, the New York winter in itself provides a pretty good excuse to stay in.
Now, I've never been one for gimmicks, preferring to dive into a good book anytime, but I must admit that this thing is fabulous. With my husband clearly unable to handle anything remotely heavy, I had to do most of the setting up. It took us about 40 minutes in total, and only because I'm nitpicky - those screws better be tight. Linking all the bits together was a piece of cake. We placed the speakers in their relevant positions and, wham, we had serious sound. I've been told that this isn't the top of the range, but as far as my ears can tell, it's great. The subwoofer makes your floor tremble (and the dog sit up), and the speakers are elegant enough not be intrusive in the room (even when the room is not that big). It makes DVD watching a fantastic experience - better, almost, than being in the cinema. So, of course, we got totally hooked on DVD series. I never thought I would get into LOST, but how can you not when the gentle crash of waves on the beach rumbles in the background while Sawyer has his little hissy fit. Many of our DVDs are from other regions (the result of moving way too often), but it was very easy to decode the system to allow it to play other DVDs (isn't the Internet wonderful?). Now, we can play all our DVDs, and music CDs, and even plug in our iPod to play music through this system. You beauty. The only thing it has refused to play so far is video CDs. In short, if you plan to re-visit the 1980s by watching McGuyver, V, 21 Jumpstreet and a host of other DVDs ... you can't do much better than this in terms of value for money.

Beautiful and High Quality,

This stereo is not only beautiful, but sounds great at a bargain price. DVDs are extremely crisp when coupled with an HDMI cable and the sound via the 5.1 is incredible. Matches perfectly with my Pioneer Purevision plasma, as if it was made for the TV. Bang and Olufsen style CD/DVD cover is pretty cool. High quality materials don't feel flimpsy or cheap. Overall, best home theater system under $1000 by far.

Pretty cool system. Remote functionality could be tweaked abit with Samsung TV remote, and cable TV. When you place a DVD or CD, and open system it always switches to DVD or CD mode. This is a pain when your watching a play-off game. Over all I'm pretty satisfied.

Samsung 800-Watt 5.1 Channel Home Theater System,
This review is from: Samsung HT-P1200 5.1 Channel Home Theater System (Electronics)
We purchased and set up this system 1/3/06. It is sleek and the sound was fantastic. However 31 days later the subwoofer fan began making an awful noise. The warranty choices were send it to N.J. or drive it 100 miles round trip for repair. We drove it 100 miles for repair. After 20 days they advised they couldn't fix it even after installing a new fan. Another 100 mile round trip to pick it up. On 3/2/06 we shipped the subwoofer to N.J. and got it back on 4/5/06. By 6/12/06 the subwoofer fan had stopped intermittantly many times and with it all sound from the speakers. We again drove 100 miles and returned the whole home theater system for credit.

Not what I expect from Samsung,

Samsung has become the global leader in consumer electronics, home A/V and appliance markets. But I guess this is not one of their better products. The styling is fine, but the sound quality is not quite there (very shallow), and the DVD player can get very picky on the DVD it wants to play.
Overall not the best product I got from Samsung. I do recommend their LCD/LED TVs. Great Colors and contrast.

Couldn't have asked for an easier transaction and delivery for a great home theater system.

The system is great except for one little thing...when you turn it on it take a little time to load.
