It's okay, but nothing special.,

I recently purchased this system when it's price was sub $300 and I'm glad I didn't pay any more for it.
The system kicks out a MAJOR PUNCH in the sound department, with deep bass that will rumble the room thanks to it's HUGE subwoofer. It's as big as a PC tower case and blasts! Sadly, you have to have it blast if you want to hear anything. There are few controls for the sound levels and trying to listen as low volumes was worse audio quality than listening to the TV with it's built in speakers. The system is either too quiet to hear anything but voices, or too loud to hear anything other than boom. Also, when in stereo mode, the back speakers shut off. There is one option that will do stereo with them on (Matrix Mode) but it tries to separate sounds and ends up with the speakers just making some noises sometimes and is a bit disconcerting. The upconverting DVD player looks pretty poor on a high def television. There also is no difference with upscale from 480p to 1080i, it's just as blocky. If you've not seen a better upscaler (as found in the PS3 for example) then it might look okay, albeit blocky, but if you have seen a better one you won't be able to watch DVD's on your HDTV with this without feeling as if you're missing something. Lastly... the fan. After a while a fan inside the receiver will kick in. This thing is LOUD. That shouldn't happen on a sound system - having something that makes listening to things worse. Overall, I'm very dissapointed in this product and suggest you look elsewhere for a home theater system. I'm considering returning this item and wished I'd read a review like this first, so I'd know to stay away.

Great system for a great price at $339. Speakers produce great sound and the add-on (SWA-3000) for wireless rear speakers round it out. The reason I bought this system was for a 2nd home theater in our bonus room, where I was trying to save money by getting a HTIB rather than spending lots of $ on separate components and speakers. The thing I had trouble finding was something that would handle multiple digital inputs/outputs ... this system fit the bill without spending a fortune.
Opposed to one of the other comments on this system, it DOES upconvert to 1080i nicely...I've seen better upconvert DVD players, but not in a HTIB. Very happy and satisfied with purchase...only reason I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is the documentation; it's not terrible but it's too high-level for someone who know their way around an A/V setup ... would have given it a 4.5 if possible. My Configuration: Toshiba 42" LCD 1080p (42HL167); DishNetwork HD/DVR Satellite Rec'r (Vip622); Samsung HTIB (HT-TX72); Xbox360; Xbox; iPod dock.

Died after a 10 months,
This review is from: Samsung HT-TX72 DVD Home Theater System (Electronics)
I was fairly happy with this product until it died after having owned it for about 10 months. At first, I noticed that the fan stopped working, and then the unit would shut down by itself 5 minutes after turning it on. I opened it out of curiosity and noticed a capacitor had burned inside (looked like popcorn). Not sure what to think of a product that died so quickly. Maybe it's just an isolate incident but I guess it's still worth sharing. Good luck!

Good for the money if not using HDMI Input,

This review is from: Samsung HT-TX72 DVD Home Theater System (Electronics)
I purchased this product a few weeks ago at a retail store for three reasons: (1) it had an HDMI input for my HD Tivo, (2) it was XM ready and (3) it had an iPod cable hookup. Unfortunately, the HDMI input worked for about a week and then I started having problems with my Tivo working through the input. It worked fine if I hooked it directly to the TV. I updated the Samsung firmware, but that did not help. I am likely going to return the home theater system and try something else. Otherwise, the upconvert DVD player worked well, the sound for movies, XM radio, and CDs was solid, but there was not much in the way of changing the audio settings and controlling the subwoofer. For some reason, there is also not AM available. For $300, I guess I should not expect much.

I got this HTS together with the SW-3000 wireless module for the rear speakers and was a perfect fit for my needs.
I got it installed in about an hour and delivers an awesome sound. I used two HDMI cables between my Samsung 46" LCD and the satellite receiver. I have a PS2 connected to it using the Aux inputs, too. I didn't experience ANY technical problem playing all types of DVDs and CDs (and hope I won't). I'm sure there are way better (and expensiver!) systems in the market but, again, this was a perfect fit for me... I couldn't ask for more. I saw Transformers and Spider Man III a few days ago and Dolby 5.1 makes you jump from the couch!!! Put an old Pavarotti DVD (surround mode) the other day and the power and sound quality just made me cry... I highly recommend the wireless system for the rear speakers; for an extra 100 bucks you will avoid the hassle of cabling. My family room connects with the kitchen so I put the rear speakers over the upper cabinets... and it was a perfect lay out (measures) to get the best sound. I also recommend you make some research on sound systems (dolby, dolby 5.1, 7.1, etc..., get your room measures, and check for speakers lay out recommendations before you buy anything. It's all in the web. Summary: Awesome out-the-box Home Theather System!!! I couldn't be happier!!!

DO NOT BUY,
This review is from: Samsung HT-TX72 DVD Home Theater System (Electronics)
I purchased this product less than 6 months ago. It recently began shutting off about 30 minutes into a movie. If I attempted to restart it would simply shut down again within a few minutes. Researching the issue on the internet I found MANY other people who had a similar issue. It appears that the system is overheating.

I really enjoyed the simplicity, ease of set up and many options this all in one DVD home theater system offered.
I set this up in a entertainment system unit that held my xbox 360, 42" LCD TV, cable modem, ipod etc. The system sounds great for the size room and has low and high end response from the speaker system. It is not audiophile grade, but for the home user it is more than sufficient for movies, high definition programing, gaming, etc. After about three months, when we were using the system for more than 20 or 30 minutes at a time, we started to notice that it would shut down on its own... weird... but after spending some time with the unit - i noticed that it read "protection" on the read out screen just prior to shutting down.... and, upon further investigation, i noted that the unit was SUPER HOT when it did this. I went online to do a little research and have found that this is a common issue with this model and it it is due to a lousy design. The system heats up and the small fan cannot keep up with cooling it... there is a system on board to "protect" the system and auto shuts down the system so it doesn't overheat. I read that several do it yourself gurus online suggest opening the system up to replace fan or inspect the elements around the fan to remedy the issue - BUT I DO NOT ENCOURAGE THIS - once you open it voids the warranty if you still have one AND it is dangerous to mess with electronics if you are not a trained professional. I certainly want to point out that messing with this unit MAY cause a fire as it is an electrical device. I suggest you do as I am going to do - GO AFTER THE MAKER.... SAMSUNG - shame on you... you should fix these on your dime. Buyers beware.

Not working from Day One,
This review is from: Samsung HT-TX72 DVD Home Theater System (Electronics)
I brought this product for Christmas and it keeps shutting down after playing for approximately 1 hour. I tried contacting Samsung but to no avail. I got this system on the Dec 22 2008, and to date I have not been able to contact Samsung. It is totally frustrating and am very sorry I purchased this item.

Very Disappointing,
This review is from: Samsung HT-TX72 DVD Home Theater System (Electronics)
When the system was 1st set up, a hissing sound was observed in the front 2 speakers, even after all connections were double checked. Front and back speaker wires were switched and the hissing moved to the back speakers. Several DVD's, that played OK in other players, resulted in very poor picture and sound quality, i.e. picture and sound kept breaking up. This continued to occur even after the DVD's were cleaned. In addition, when the audio from the TV was connected to home theater system only static was heard through the surround sound speakers. After contacting Samsung directly with these problems they concluded the unit was faulty and said they would send a shipping label to return just the amp/dvd player for repair. When I did not receive the return label after waiting a week, I re-contacted them and found out that nothing had been initiated. Frustrated at this point, I decided to return the complete unit to Amazon and will look for a different brand Home Theater unit. This is the 1st Samsung product I have purchase and will probably be the last.

Good Product but does not play all types of DVD's,

The product is excellent and plays well for my needs on the formats that it supports. I do have a concern that most of the available formats of DVD/CD/VCD are not played by this player and hence you have to resort back to playing on the laptop.
