I went out on a limb and bought this product to go with my new samsung 52" HDTV. And it rocks! I originally was looking at doing high end individual pieces with speakers from fluance that everyone raves about, but since Im not an uber techie who reviews the likes of bose and hangs out in professional sound studios, this system more than does the job. Whats really great is the Anynet device feature that syncs up my tv to the home theater system. I also thought that having the rear speakers be towers would be better but Im quite pleased with the way I have my little guys arranged and they certyainly deliver good sound, even remotely.

The downside, not that it really matters, is that while you can sub in 16 gauge copper wire for the front 3 speakers, you have to use the supplied wires for the erars as they have specially designed adapters for the uplink box. But they still sound fantastic and the sub absolutely booms! My house is filled with sound and my movies look and feel amazing. If youre just a normal person, this is a great way to go!! Especially for the price!

4.0 out of 5 stars Not a Bose but it does the job., May 18, 2008
This review is from: Samsung HT-Z512T 5.1-Channel 5 Disc Home Theater Surround Sound System (Set of Seven, Black) (Electronics)
For the price I paid for this, I got my money's worth. It's no Bose, but it does a nice job with the Samsung LCD I have it running on. They recognize one another and the remotes will work for either. My chief grievance with this, is that there are not enough ports on the back side for all the devices that are out there. It is relatively simple to use, one note is that if you are watching TV or a movie, you will notice a delay (like the dubbed Kung Fu Movies), this setting is easy to adjust, but it is very noticeable at first. I am not sure if this was a mistake at the factory or if this is the factory setting, but it can be adjusted. Samsung has a lot of great FAQ's on their website instead of reading through the manual to figure out how to do something.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good for the money, October 24, 2008
This review is from: Samsung HT-Z512T 5.1-Channel 5 Disc Home Theater Surround Sound System (Set of Seven, Black) (Electronics)
Bought it at an excellent price, way cheaper than the local electronic stores in town thanks to a sale at Amazon. Had it shipped for free and received within five days. The set up is simple and to the point. The manual could be improved. One note on the rear speakers; ensure you have the system set up for 5:1 or else the surround speakers (rear-wireless) will not work. This can be done at the set up screen by selecting Sound > Speakers. I have seen a few complaints on the rear speakers not working, and that could be one of the issues. My set up was a breeze and everything works as expected. The front speakers are really good looking and easy to assemble. The speaker wires provided are cheap, so be ready to buy new ones.

Pro's: HDMI Out (1), the picture on DVD's are very good and the sound is astonishing. If you have a Samsung TV with Anynet, the receiver and the TV will work in unison. Pretty cool feature to have, it will allow you to control the TV and the DVD with either remote. The TV will recognize the Home Teather System right way and will set up the Anynet feature automatically. There is also a plug-in for your iPod.

Con's: There isn't any HDMI in, and only one Digital input. Wish it would have at least 2 HDMI's input and 2 HDMI's output.

Overall, good equipment for the money!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice home theater for the price, November 23, 2008
This review is from: Samsung HT-Z512T 5.1-Channel 5 Disc Home Theater Surround Sound System (Set of Seven, Black) (Electronics)
Sound quality is good, the wireless rear speakers makes the wireing really easy.

The two rear speakers are unbalanced. I manually adjusted the balance. The response to the USB drive is a little bit slow.

I am a 59 year old consumer and enjoy staying current with consumer electronics. I have always steered clear of Samsung electronics until last Christmas when I was given a digital home theater system, the Samsung HT-TZ512. From the day I connected it, the picture was not centered and was shifted to the left and up cutting of a large portion of the viewing screen. I returned it to Samsung on three separate occasions and they have not repaired the issue. The do not stand behind their products and they will never get another dime from me. Please consider carefully when dealing with Samsung and steer away at all costs.

1.0 out of 5 stars A HTS w/o sound? True!, January 4, 2009
This review is from: Samsung HT-Z512T 5.1-Channel 5 Disc Home Theater Surround Sound System (Set of Seven, Black) (Electronics)
The display at Best Buy didn't work. That should have deterred me. Rather, I thought it was a connectivity/setup issue on their end. So, I proceeded to buy it. Within the first three hours after setup, I lost sound a dozen times. It didn't matter the source...aux, dvd, ipod....the sound went out randomly. It wasn't the speaker connections; it wasn't the source. Returning it tomorrow.

Like most of you, I purchased this system 2 months ago after doing a lot of research on comparable HTIBs. I had to replace a great yamaha HTIB system I've had since 2004 ($800) because of problems w/ the integrated receiver/DVD reading minimally scratched DVD's. As with all HTIB's, you get what you pay for. While the picture quality and sound are great (as other reviewers have commented on), I've had several problems w/ the system already and have exchanged it twice for a new one.

The first return occurred 3 days after purchase because:
1. I stopped receiving a picture from the DVD player despite being able to hear sound (using my HDMI connection directly to the TV).
2. The rear wireless module didn't recognize the main unit unless it was in DVD mode. We had to toggle back and forth between DVD and DIV-IN to "trick it" into connecting and getting ANY sound.
3. My wife and I also noticed a significant humming from the rear wireless module whenever the volume was >13 (likely the fan). I had seen one reviewer mention this, so I wasn't sure if I should be concerned or not.
I talked to Samsung tech service (level 2) who couldn't figure it out, despite trying the usual trouble shooting tips. They then suggested returning it or getting it serviced. Of course, I simply returned it and got a new main unit and rear speaker module. The picture issue was fixed w/ the new unit, but I still had problems w/ the rear speaker module making too much noise and not connecting easily w/ the main unit.
Again, called Samsung tech who couldn't offer any further advice as they haven't heard many complaints about the wireless module being too loud.
So I returned it AGAIN, where they let me exchange it w/ a new rear wireless module and bluetooth connector. The humming noise is now gone! (very faint, but much better than the 2 previous modules). I still had to toggle between DVD and DIV-in to get the module to recognize the main unit, but this resolved itself once I purchased a samsung LCD (no idea why).
My current problem is w/ the Anynet interface between the samsung TV and HTIB. Now, the great thing w/ the Anynet feature on Samsung products is that the 2 components will recognize each other (eg- the HTIB will automatically turn on/off when the TV is, or the TV will automatically change to the appropriate input if the DVD player is started). Unfortunately, after the first day of hooking the 2 samsung components up, the HTIB would turn itself off after 13 seconds and I would have to turn it back on. Samsung tech recommended turning the Anynet feature off, which fixed the issue. But they weren't able to correct the Anynet feature otherwise and I am now left w/ 2 Samsung products that don't play well together. Samsung tech said they're aware of the issue occurring randomly, but have no plans to fix it. Kinda defeats the purpose of having Anynet features. Poor customer support in my opinion. Though it was a great price, it's caused unmeasurable pain and suffering :)

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Samsung HT-Z512T 5.1-Channel 5 Disc Home Theater Surround Sound System (Set of Seven, Black) (Electronics)
I bought this sound system 6 months ago, and haven't had a single problem with it. It looks amazing with the tallboys one either side of the screen (we have a Samsung flatscreen) and sounds great in our small apartment. It wasn't difficult to install if you've ever set up any type of speaker before. Love the wireless front-to-back speakers- we have kittens that like to chew on wires and hiding them is challenge enough, so eliminating one that would stretch across the living room is great! We love the system, and have no complaints. I'd recommend it to anyone who is an "average" person who wants the look, feel and sound of a great system without the hefty price tag.

1.0 out of 5 stars Dont waste your money, November 17, 2009
This review is from: Samsung HT-Z512T 5.1-Channel 5 Disc Home Theater Surround Sound System (Set of Seven, Black) (Electronics)
I bought this system to replace a fading surround sound system. It took a few weeks before we got to set it up and from the beginning, the surround sound just didn't work quite right. The wireless speakers cut in and out like bad cell phone reception. I kept thinking I would re-connect things and it would be ok. Since we dont actually watch movies a lot, it was at least 3 months before we noticed that the DVD player was skipping and not playing disks. Of course it was too late to return, so we sent it back into the company for repairs(spending lots of $$$$ to do so)...and guess what? We got it back, played about 6 movies and it has stopped playing them again. ARGGGG Frustrating to spend so much money on something that has never really worked!!! Won't spend any more money to ship it back to them again! Wish I could return it or afford to buy something else!!!

For the cost this is a good system.. looks good, sounds good.

Only thing I miss would be having multiple HDMI or Digital Inputs but that is what you give up to have it for this cost.
