I will update this review at a later date. I've had this phone for about a week now and while it may not be the EVO, it certainly gets the job done.
The phone itself is adorable. I get compliments on it all the time. The touchscreen is great and I'm finally used to typing on the slightly cramped physical keyboard. The android keyboard is also great. Android is awesome. The market has plenty of apps available to suit all sorts of needs and situations. I found the games to be a bit lacking, but I think that has more to do with my losing interest in mobile games. I do occasionally experience lag but it's certainly not enough to make me throw the phone out of the window. It's usually in the settings screen where I have issues. Waiting a few seconds and then attempting the function again does the trick. I don't spend too much time editing my settings anyway, so it's not a problem. I had just as many hangups with my old sidekick 2008. Probably more, actually. The stupid thing would freeze just from checking my call log. Cell phones are basically small computers now so the occasional bit of lag is to be expected. The issue I've read about from others with the capacitative softkeys is a total non-issue for me. I honestly don't even see it. I think people need to realize that pressing a button 100 times hoping to make something work is the WRONG approach. If you're looking for an inexpensive cell phone with a dash of high-end features, this is a great choice. A more in-depth review is forthcoming.

I have had the phone for about 2 weeks. This is my first smartphone so if you are a smartphone expert this may not be as helpful to you. This phone is very attractive to begin with. It has fairly good call quality (at least as well as any other cell phone I have owned). I have actually found the phone very easy to use with only a little help from the manual. I love the spacious physical qwerty keyboard. It was a must for me but the virtual keyboard is not too bad on this phone either. The touchscreen is very responsive so I have not had any problems with it. I love the collection of free apps on the Android market. My only issue is the poor battery life. I only had the phone for less than a week before I realized that I needed an extra battery. It did however have better battery life when I realized that I had the GPS function turned on without my knowledge.
Despite the poor battery life this phone has been a great buy especially at $0.01. I will update this review if need be after I have had the phone longer but so far I would recommend this phone especially to any first time smartphone buyers.

Still has bugs to be worked out.,
This review is from: Samsung Intercept Android Phone, Satin Pink (Sprint) (Wireless Phone)
The Android platform on this phone is GREAT! You can read all the major e-book apps from it (Kindle, Nook, Kobo...and more), and there are countless other apps from the Android Market that will let you do just about anything you could imagine. It also runs both Sprint navigation and Google Maps and has an expandable memory. If it worked more dependably, it would be a fantastic phone. Unfortunately, it still seems to have a lot of kinks yet to be worked out. It freezes often, and can be incredibly slow at times for no apparent reasons. It's quirky and unpredictable at best. Great on ideas, weak on the follow through for now.

This phone is terrible. Really. The touchscreen is not very responsive. It likes to freeze for no rhyme or reason. It likes to turn off when you're using it. It likes to have random applications running in the background--applications that you haven't used in sometime. Why? I have no idea. Then you have to manually kill the apps everyday just so that it doesn't slow down your phone. And worst of it, it likes to turn off, after it freezes for a while, for no apparent reason either.
This pos phone is more temperamental than a woman on pms. At least you can sorta predict when a woman gets cranky, with this phone, not so much. I'm stuck with this phone for the next 2 years thanks to being over the month limit. Please, avoid yourself the hassle, headache, and (muttered) curses by NOT purchasing this phone.

This is my first Android phone & I am having a ton of fun with it. It is attractive & has a lot of great options. Being my first Android, I did have to refer to the booklets for a little guidance, but they were really easy to follow so all went very well. I am satisfied with this phone. One issue is the battery life. I use the apps & wi-fi constantly & the battery cannot keep up with me. It takes a while to charge. Recommend having a second battery on hand if going out for extended period of time.

DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE! this "smartphone" is a STUPIDPHONE! I have had to get it replaced 4, yes 4 times! it never does what you want it to do, it only does whatever it randomly feels like doing whenever it wants. Finally, i found out if you call the sprint "Retention" department you can get them to issue you an early upgrade because of the headaches of having this POS replaced so many times. ABSOLUTELY THE WORST PHONE EEEEEEEEEEEEVVVVVVVVVVVVEEEEEEEEERRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'd rather use the old nextel i90!

After 3 months the phone started to slow down and freeze up more. I only had 3 apps installed, not overloaded like some peoples. It's now been 6 months and it gets stuck on the start up screen and wont even turn on unless you take the battery out and let it sit for hours off. Super slow getting into your messages and trying to type them up. Worst phone ever.

This phone will constantly freeze, It won't let you make phone calls sometimes. It restarts randomly by itself. Most apps do not work on this phone. Don't waste you money on this piece of junk!

An OK product with some weaknesses,
This review is from: Samsung Intercept Android Phone, Satin Pink (Sprint) (Wireless Phone)
I am a light mobile phone user, but I bought this phone to be able to check my email while away from home. My previous phone was a simple LG Flare with no bells and whistles, just a phone. I found that making and receiving calls is a bit more cumbersome on the Intercept - it requires pressing and holding an on-screen button instead of simply opening the phone, but that is a matter of taste.
Contact managements is a rather weak spot, thanks to the inferior Google software that come with the product. One of the advertised features is the ability to synchronize contact list on Gmail. Synchronization with Gmail is, in fact, required for installing apps through Android market. However, the synchronization is pretty pathetic. First, it dumps addresses of every email ever sent to me into my contact list on the Intercept - which is quite idiotic, because it does not distinguish between my actual contacts and, say, all emails that someone added to the cc list of the email he sent to me two years ago. This results in contact addresses being flooded with completely useless and unmanageable information. Since I could not find any solution to this problem, I bypassed it by creating a new Gmail account, and imported to it only those contacts that I needed (itself a very tedious process in Google products.) I organized them into groups and synchronized them with my Intercept phone only to find that all those contacts are dumped into a single class identified by my Gmail address, and all of the group assignment is simply ignored. Of course, I could re-enter all my contacts manually, but this is tedious and seems like a 19th century solution to bugs in the supposedly 21st century software. I can still use the synced contacts as long as the list is not very long, but for hundreds of contacts, this method of contact management is rather useless. The imported contacts cannot be re-assigned to groups by the user either. I noticed that this problem has been reported by users as early as 2008, but apparently it has not been solved by 2011. This is a rather serious limitation, because it impairs one of the most basic function of a mobile device - contact management. However, I find Gmail and its "gadgets" to be among the least reliable services on the market, so this limitation seems to "come with the territory." However, Gmail emails synchronize rather seamlessly thus far. Other Google apps, such as search or maps also seem to be working well. The phone has a sliding keyboard - a feature hat I was looking for to manage my email. I found it a bit more reliable than the "virtual keyboard" that the phone also has. However, the virtual keyboard is more convenient and works OK too. The phone has a 3.2 megapixel camera and no LED light, which is quite mediocre, but easy to use. I do not see much use of a mobile phone camera, however, so that feature does not weigh much on my opinion about the product. A common complaint about this phone is low battery life, but I did not find it to be a problem. I could go two or even three days without recharging, but as I said, I am a light user. I use the phone with Virgin Mobile service (Sprint network)which offers a very good value for the money. The voice part of the service works fine, the data part (3G) can be a bit slow from time to time, but works OK too. However, I was disappointed to learn that I could not use Skype over wireless network - it is apparently verbotten in the US so telecoms can rip us off with their exorbitant international calling rates. However, Skype can be used with the wi-fi service (one of the phone features,) although voice quality seems noticeably worse than via PC. In sum, I think it is a decent mobile phone and I would have given it 4-5 stars if it were not for the poor contact management and synchronization. |
