Nice tv for small rooms!,

I purchased the Samsung LN22A450 after considering many other models in the Samsung lineup (the 19" version of this set as well as the 6 series version). I found that the 19" was still a bit too small for my liking, and the 6 series did not have enough improvements over this model to warrant the $90 increase in cost (the LN22A650 was on sale at a local store for $550). I ended up buying this television for $460 from amazon, and I am very happy with my decision. The tv is a perfect size for my small bedroom, and the picture quality is superior to many other brands that I have seen.
Pros: -Built in digital tuner can be used to receive FREE HD channels via OTA broadcasts when connected to an antenna (almost all hdtv's have this, but it's an important feature to note if you don't want to pay for cable) -PC input (VGA) can be used to connect a laptop for viewing streaming or downloaded internet content -Picture quality (free HD channels are amazing, and upconverted DVDs are also great) -Aesthetics of the tv set itself (it looks pretty slick when paired up with a matching upconverting dvd player, the Samsung DVD-F1080 1080p Upconverting Compact DVD Player) Cons: -Only 1 HDMI input -VGA instead of DVI input for PC -SRS "surround sound" is disappointing; I just keep it turned off and turn up the volume Despite the few complaints, I still give this product 5 stars, because samsung seems to have gotten all the more important details right with this tv. You can't really expect to get impressive sound from hidden speakers that are pointed downwards, though the quality is good enough for a small room. Highly recommended!

I'll preface by saying I'm not a serious A/V person, I'm not up to speed on the latest and greatest technology - just a layman. My old CRT TV died, and I needed a new one. Wanted LCD for the lower power consumption and since nearly all of them are HD ready I wanted that too. From what I read, Samsung has the best LCD panels out there. The image on this one is extremely good, though in my opinion I wouldn't say excellent. At times it seems to blur momentarily. Colors are well represented. The features of the TV are nice, not much more than you'd find with older CRT though. This unit is very light weight and easily mounted to a wall. It doesn't get hot when on, which is nice. The remote is weird in its layout of the buttons. I guess it's a subjective thing, but the channel and volume up/down buttons are at the bottom of the remote, not the top and that's really annoying to me. Good thing I was able to get a universal to use with my cable box and DVD player. While I would otherwise give it a five star rating I will have to agree with many others about my one real gripe. The sound. The speakers are buried UNDER the TV, and point down. I have mine in a small bedroom, I don't have delusions of using this TV for a home theater but for four hundred bucks they could have put some better speakers on this thing. While the speakers are loud enough, they just don't sound all that great most of the time.

I agonized over this purchase since there were such mixed reviews. This tv is wonderful. It works perfectly and has a good picture. I don't know what people find wrong with the sound. I guess I don't have discerning ears.

Great Tv,

When I needed to upgrade the TV in our kitchen, it had to fit in a cabinet-end box that had been designed for a 20" CRT Sony 10 years ago. I soon learned that few HDTV mfgrs are building HDTVs that are 22 - 23". After a lot of web research and viewing and measuring LCD and plasma TVs in retailers, we agreed that the 22-inch Samsung was the best for us. While it's widely available in many retail outlets and sites, Amazon's price was the best. It was delivered in just a few days and the set has a beautiful picture and "fits" our needs perfectly.

Distorted sound,

I am now sending my second LN22A451 back as the sound becomes distorted for a few seconds then corrects itself. Seems odd that I'd get 2 with the same problem. I didn't think I connected it wrong...cable in , and plug it in, no cable box, no receiver, no DVD, etc! The picture was great but I just didn't want to take the chance of it failing. I hooked another Samsung LNT1923H into the cable and there was no issue with the sound, indicating to me that it is not the fault of the cable signal. Oh well. Good luck with yours.

Picture is okay, Sound is terrible!,

A little harder to setup than our LG 26" but a good picture nonetheless.
Where this set loses points is in sound quality. For some reason Samsung can't get sound right in their sets. The speakers sound about as powerful as an alarm clock. They are absolutely awful! We decided to get the LG26LG30 instead, and we're not disappointed. Sound is powerful and picture is vibrant, with great detail. With the Samsung I found I was straining just to hear it!

A smart choice for this size,
This review is from: Samsung LN22A450 22-Inch LCD Flat Panel HDTV 720p HDMI (Electronics)
I am very picky when it comes to electronics. I spend 2-3 months reading and visiting different stores asking lots of questions to a variety of salesman. Honestly I am a die-hard SONY consumer, but SONY did not have a set this size, needed for a spare bedroom. Having a friend who is a tv repairman, I was influenced somewhat by his opinion, as he sees sets all the time in the store for repair. According to him, the three brands that have the LEAST repairs are ...SONY, SAMSUNG and PANASONIC. He says "you can't go wrong with any of those brands." I have to believe him. This set is excellent. The set up is a breeze, and the picture on standard cable is very good, HD is amazing. The prize at AMAZON is cheaper than any of the big box stores, but just so you know, if you just have to have it NOW, and can't wait a few days for shipping, HH Greggs will match the price within about $4.00, whereas Circuit City and Best Buy thumb their noses at you when you ask. They are just too big for their britches! That's about it...if you are looking for a set in this size, just go buy it. It's a super looking set, easy controls, easy set up, very good picture on cable, excellent on HD and a good price. What's not to like?

This is a fantastic TV. Great picture. Very bright. It needs a tilt stand, however. Additionally, the screen is just slightly shy of a true 16:9 size, so you have to use the "wide" setting to fill the screen. The 16:9 setting results in thin black bars on the top and bottom.

we love the TV - except for the wretched sound. i had read the reviews that mentioned the poor sound, but didn't think it would be that bad. we hung the TV in the kitchen and don't have a stereo to hook it up to there.

I am a big fan os Samsung. I own 2 large monitors and a small LCD. But this one went back. The viewing angle on this TV is poor. I wanted to use this for our bed room. It sits on our dresser, so we have to look up at it when laying in bed. The screen was an ugly gray and black in dark scenes. It was terrible. If you view the TV from straight on it may be OK. I found the Sony Bravia much nicer and no viewing angle problems.
I had no problems returning through Amazon. There were great.....and that is why I make many purchases with them. |
