Great TV. Great Price,

I wasn't really planning to purchase a TV for another six months, but I happened across this model at 900 bucks on Amazon and decided to pull the trigger. For a 40 inch TV, 1080p is unnecessary.
I knew I wanted one of the Name Brand (Samsung, Toshiba, Sony, Sharp, LG) TVs because of some poor experiences my friends have had with other brands like Vizio and Dynex. And while this is the older entry-level model from Samsung, the major differences (in addition to 720p vs 1080p) between this model and the more expensive ones largely came down to one fewer HDMI inputs (2 vs. 3), a lower contrast ratio that is still good enough to clearly distinguish many shades of black in a brightly lit room, and a slower refresh rate that might matter if I were playing a fast-paced video game, but hasn't been noticeable at all for watching TV (including sports) and movies. All in all, for a price that comes in 30% or more below similar sets, I couldn't be happier.

I bought this for my 84 year old very techno Mother just days ago. I recently bought a Sony XBR4 52" from amazon with the white glove delivery and everything was perfect. This crew was not so great but we adapted and the TV set was really great despite the delivery crew. I would highly recommend this set. The 40" set really does not have to be 1080P, esp. since cable cannot deliver anything in HD this set can not receive. If you go to a 46" set; you definitely need to go to 1080P. Buy this set! Mom has this in her living room and absolutely loves it!

For the price, at the time of purchase, you couldn't beat this TV. Delivered to your door, and taken out of the box which also is a big plus.
The TV is large, the image is crisp and clear, bottomline is that it works. If you've been reading TONS you'll notice that there are some slightly brighter screens that produce deeper blacks etc. So yes, you CAN get a slightly better image but at a much higher price. I've had it for several weeks now and have never said, "oh, that black isn't as deep as I want". Fantastic product.

Sweet Buy,

This TV has a beautiful picture. I bought a Samsung because the vividness of color was unmatched in the sets I looked at. My only regret is that I mounted it above my fireplace and wish it was a 46" or 50". A TV a bit larger would have been nicer there. At this point though for $899 I couldn't go wrong. This will probably end up in the gameroom as I replace my tubes one by one. Nice buy!

I have had the TV for close to four years. When I first got the TV there was a problem with the channels and Samsung sent out a tech immediately and replaced the main board. Since then there has not been any issues. In fact my only complaint is that it is a 740 and not a 1080 and I wish it had LED back lighting. I want to upgrade but my wife has decided we don't need to upgrade. (we don't agree we don't do it) I am afraid this TV may last forever. But in the end I guess that's a good thing. For what it was it was affordable at the time.

Yes...I did my due diligence... I scanned the web, hit the stores and this was the true 'Best Buy' out there. I needed a TV that was better than the one that did not work and I was not looking for the latest and greatest to "one up" my friends.
What I was looking for was a good working TV that would last longer than it would take for me to pay it off...Which pans down to mean low cost and a strong reputation for manufacturing solid TV's...and this one hit the target dead-on. I got the best price on Amazon.com from the warehouse. Go ahead and search for yourself. You'll be right back.

Everything you can ask for,
This review is from: Samsung LN40A330 40-Inch 720p LCD HDTV (Electronics)
This TV is amazing and is a good deal for the price.
Eventhough its advertised as 720p it can go upto 1080i. Picture Quality and Sound quality are excellent. TV looks really cool. It has all the ports you can ask for. Shipping took about 6 days but for free shipping i think that was fast enough.

Bought this one for my parents for X-mas 2008 since they don't have an HDTV. They don't watch too much TV since they work constantly. They might use it about 15-20 hours a week. So the TV has been great for them until just after 1 year and 2 months later the internal Power Supply Unit died. Don't you just love warranties!?
If it wasn't for the breakdown I'd rate it an overall 4 star as the TV itself produce some good visuals although not as great as my Toshiba 1080P LCD....maybe I should of got my parents the same since mine is now over 3 years old and I use this thing constantly for gaming, movies, and even as a PC monitor via DVI to HDMI cable.

TV good, delivery service bad,
This review is from: Samsung LN40A330 40-Inch 720p LCD HDTV (Electronics)
This TV is very nice: good picture, easy setup. The delivery was very poor. It was much more challenging to arrange a delivery time as the delivery company was pretty dense. The TV was delivered on a large pallet and the delivery person refused to even remove the box from the pallet for my wife so that the TV could be moved indoors. I definitely would question using this vendor again due to their poor choice in delivery companies.

We were woefully unprepared for how crappy normal TV would look. That's a compliment to this excellent TV (and HD in general) but it meant we had to scrap our digital cable and get DirecTV. We also didn't have the right cables to hook up all our stuff. But all that's our fault. We just got the thing because my 10-year-old 32" block was kind of an embarrassment. This was one of the better prices for a name brand HDTV, though it was more than we needed to spend. I think it was worth it, though, because we have no complaints about the color, picture quality, or features. It was easy to figure out once it was hooked-up. And the design is clean and not as gaudy as some others. I'd highly recommend it if you're ready to make the jump to HD. Just be ready for the surprise, and to shell out some more dough for new cable and new cables.
