Auto Motion Plus 120Hz
Auto Motion Plus 120Hz

This technology doubles the frame rate from 60 to 120 frames per second (120Hz LCD panel) without repeating the same image to make more frames. Instead, the TV intelligently calculates the "middle" image between frame A and frame B and inserts it in between (Auto Motion Plus 120Hz processor), making a fluid transition from one frame to the next.

HDTV Size chart
Which Size HDTV is Right for My Room?

With standard-definition TVs, the rule used to be that viewers would feel comfortable watching a set from a distance of 3 to 6 times the screen size in inches. With HDTV, the resolution is so much better that you can sit closer to a larger TV without noticing the pixels. So with HDTVs, the rule tends to be you can sit anywhere from 1.5 to 3 times the screen size (in inches) for the best experience.

If you know the size of the room you have already, where you want to sit, and where your new HDTV should go once you get it, you can figure out the size HDTV you should get.

  • Minimum size = Viewing distance/3
  • Maximum size=Viewing distance/1.5

So far, this TV ROCKS! I bought from Amazon because the price was fantastic, shipping was free, no tax, and I used gift certificates from a certain grocery store, which gave me $ off at the gas pump. All of this was, of course, after selecting Samsung and this specific model, and then shopping around for price. I knew I wanted a 46" LCD for my living room, so I started looking. At 1st, I was gonna get the Toshiba 46G300U for $650 during Black Friday at Shmears, but after visiting many stores, I was drawn to Samsung's picture clarity. Just amazing! A store I liked a lot was HHShmeggs because they had so many to choose from and the store lighting in the TV section was closest to my actual living room.

So, I ordered from Amazon and a few days later, there were 2 delivery guys at my front door. The TV got to me before some things that I ordered days earlier! They brought Bessie in and were somewhat conscious of my carpet by asking if I had something to set the box on (never mind that they were wearing their shoes, but I digress). I grabbed an old blanket and they set her down. They asked if they can open it to check the screen and I said yes. They slid it out carefully and set it down. We all looked over the screen with a flashlight. Everything looked good. I had them place it back in the box to allow it to get to room temp before setting it up. They had me sign that it was in good physical shape, but they listed that I didn't power up the TV because it was cold. They left and I smiled at my new television.

While waiting for Bessie to get to room temp, I assembled the stand with 4 provided screws and read over the manual. Turns out this TV has a LAN port, which I did not see in any spec listing for this TV.

Well I was a little hesitant at first purchasing a product in this day and age when reviews can make or break a product. Having read only one review being that it was fairly new to market made me feel un-easy about making this purchase. But then again its a Samsung LCD and not just some run of the mill product. What was I looking for in an LCD? Nothing special, just the best features and quality that I can get for the money. So not being an expert (who is?) I just compared must have features on top of the line LCD units and made sure they were included in this Samsung LN46C600 flat panel set. To my surprise just about every feature was included and some. Same top of the line features as the much higher priced units. The picture quality was amazing and I'm glad that I stuck to my guns with my wife and got the unit that had 120 Hz verses 60 Hz. You really do see a difference in the picture (motion blur) when seeing action shots on an LCD. This unit has a feature called auto motion plus which kicks in and smooths out the action. I have no idea how it works but it does and having a very critical eye for picture quality I was impressed. One thing you might want to consider is the kind of wall mount that you choose. I always went for a tilt wall mount. Stuck in a fixed position. Not this time. I wanted to make sure that I could see this unit from almost any angle in my living room. So I opted for an articulating full motion wall mount. I checked into these types of mounts and could not believe how expensive they were, $300 plus. I was ready to throw up my hands on this idea when I ran accross a mount made by a company called Cheetah on Amazon. They have mounts that hold up to 165 lbs. and cost only $79 bucs. So now I'm a happy camper.Read more ›

I own two of the Samsung LCD TV's a 52" and 46" and both have the same problem. Both TV's have the same defect that only shows up after the one year warranty was up. They fail to power on like they did when new. They click and click then after about 20-30 minutes finally come on. The problem is well known. Samsung bought cheap malaysian capacitors that fail after time. The power supply boards use 4 of these on each TV. I checked with several Samsung repair shops and they wanted between $400-$800 to fix. I bought a new board online for $95 and replaced myself. Now that I know I purchased quality replacement panasonic capacitors of a higher temp and farad rating and had the old board updated. The 12v buss and 10v cheap capacitors are the problem. The better panasonic capacitors cost $1.08 each. I own many Samsung products and they are usually better than the competition, however Samsung dropped the ball on these TV's. My 52" was the top of the line model and cost $3,200. Samsung will only stand behind them until the 1 yr warranty is up. Buyers beware of the common capacitor problems.

The LN46C600 is essentially identical to the LN46C630, but about $100 less. The only difference between them is the stand and enclosure on the 630 are slightly more stylish; the electronics are actually identical (confirmed by Samsung tech support). If you want to pay an extra $100 for a glass base and an enclosure with a quarter-inch of clear glass all around the screen, that's fine, but that's all you get for that $100.

The default picture settings were a bit dark for my taste, but adjusted up nicely. A standard DVD played on an upconverting blu-ray player was simply stunning. I don't actually own any blu-ray movies yet, and my cable company is backordered on HD set-top boxes, but if the upconverted DVD is any indication... wow. Very pleased, especially at this price point.

The technical details listed here state 4 HDMI and two composite-video inputs. (Composite video is via a single cable, usually yellow.) In addition, there are also two component-video inputs (component video uses three cables, red green and blue). Oddly, these overlap; one set of inputs is both a composite and a component input, to be used as one or the other but not both. In other words, there are three sets of jacks, and you could connect one component and two composites, or two composites and one component, but not two of each. The component inputs (one of which is also composite) and three of the HDMI inputs are on the back, behind the lower-right corner of the screen (as viewed from the front); the other composite & fourth HDMI are on the right edge, again as viewed from the front.

Amazon's "white-glove delivery" isn't all that big a deal; the guy carried it from the truck to the door, and he & I carried it into the house together, and got it out of the box together.
