4.0 out of 5 stars Link to Product Specs!
It looks like there is some confusion as to the actual specs for this model. Here is the link to Samsungs product data sheet for the LN-R409D. Looks like a nice unit!

3.0 out of 5 stars Great TV--if Samsung would disable the bright blue light
The TV performance is great. Unfortunately the designers chose to put a bright blue light around the power button that bathes the room in neon blue whenever the TV is off. Their tech service staff agrees it in not aesthetic, but has no suggestions of how to disable it. Mine is in a cabinet, but if you choose to hang it on the wall, be aware that your room will have a...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great product, April 9, 2006

This review is from: Samsung LNR409D 40-Inch LCD Flat Panel HD-Ready TV (Electronics)
After buying one of these and trying it, I bought another I liked it so much. Great picture with respect to color, clarity and scope of viewing angle. Good surround-type sound without home theater equipment for moderate size rooms. Easy set-up and good size for many conventional home locations with largish screen. Many connection options -- all around excellent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome flat panel if you can get a great price, May 18, 2006
By
This review is from: Samsung LNR409D 40-Inch LCD Flat Panel HD-Ready TV (Electronics)
This used to be the top of the line Samsung but now has been replaced by a new line. As you can expect prices have come down accordingly and depending on the merchant you should be able to get this for around $2000. At that price it's great opportunity.

The alternatives are the LNS4092D which has seemingly better specs higher dyanmic contrast and s-pva which gives a slightly wider viewing angle as well as a brighter Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp. Don't be fooled. Check it out in person if you can. I found it it be more garish and glitchy on diagonals than the older model. Now who knows that may be because the store didn't have the settings right which can make an enormous difference. The other logical comparison is the Samsung LNS4041D 40, which also has similar specs but which is listed as an entry level Samsung for a good price. Again check it out first.

Aesthetically this is a great model and image quality is breathtaking when you hook dvd up with component cables. Another point. The internal tuner is superb. After getting only a few channels from my standalone Samsung tuner I did not have high hopes. It found an incredible number channels under terrible reception conditions.

I will try and comeback and update this review after using it for a few weeks to see if I find any glaring problems but so far so good.

5.0 out of 5 stars ATSC Tuner and Cable Card Slot., October 3, 2005
This review is from: Samsung LNR409D 40-Inch LCD Flat Panel HD-Ready TV (Electronics)
This review says it has an ATSC Tuner?

Samsung LNR409D 40-inch LCD TV

TalkBack: Add your opinion

The product: Rather than use the cold cathode fluorescent lighting (CCFL) backlights that power most LCD flat panels, Samsung's LNR409D--a 40-inch flat-panel LCD HDTV--relies on the world's first flat fluorescent lamp (FFL) backlight unit. The advantage? Unlike CCFLs (which look like tiny versions of the tubular lights above your office cubicle), FFLs have a paper-thin form factor that produces light from its entire surface, offering the potential for greater picture uniformity, better brightness, and a higher contrast ratio. The specs include:

40-inch wide-screen LCD flat-panel HDTV

Flat fluorescent lamp (FFL) backlight unit

Built-in ATSC tuner and CableCard slot

The price: The LNR409D will be available in May for $4,999.

The prospects: Rather than marry itself to one technology, Samsung has hedged its bets, using LED backlights in its larger LNR460D LCD panel while incorporating rival FFL technology into this one. It's a pragmatic business decision for the company and an exciting one for consumers--more choice is never a bad thing. And while the LNR460D's $5,000 asking price is quite reasonable in the world of large-screen LCDs, we're hoping FFL technology will lead to more affordable flat panels.

5.0 out of 5 stars STAY ON TASK, January 30, 2006
This review is from: Samsung LNR409D 40-Inch LCD Flat Panel HD-Ready TV (Electronics)
All of the below are nitwits. Not because they are whining (they have a decent gripe), but because they are doing it HERE. This is a forum for PRODUCT reviews, not review of AMAZON. Ding them at Yahoo, Pricegrabber, and ResellerRatings. Don't give the PRODUCT 1-star because of your bad MERCHANT experience.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice T.V. but blue neon light rules out use in bedroom, March 4, 2008
This review is from: Samsung LNR409D 40-Inch LCD Flat Panel HD-Ready TV (Electronics)
This T.V. is very nice. However, it is not for the bedroom. The blue neon light is very annoying at night (and, too much light while you're sleeping is actually unhealthy.)CNET tells you the blue light can be disabled, but it's only temporary. When the set is turned on again, it goes into a default "on" position. This happens with both "off" and "only while watching" settings. We would have gone with another brand of t.v. if we knew about this ahead of time.

1.0 out of 5 stars Amazon screws the customer again, October 7, 2005

This review is from: Samsung LNR409D 40-Inch LCD Flat Panel HD-Ready TV (Electronics)
I too, am a loyal Amazon consumer. Along with everyone else, I received a confirmation for my order on this item. I also sold my 36" television in preparation of receiving this 40" tv. Amazon's pricing policy clearly states that it only applies to items coming directly from AMAZON and not from other vendors; therefore, I'm not sure how they can back out of the Target advertisement. I understand that Amazon hosts Target's online store, but the item was still advertised by Amazon. I believe this needs to be escalated since this can't be legal. I wish I could confirm an order with a client and then decide I want to charge them double the price! I would get sued immediately!

1.0 out of 5 stars Was this a price test?, October 6, 2005
This review is from: Samsung LNR409D 40-Inch LCD Flat Panel HD-Ready TV (Electronics)
Same as everybody but I found the $1899 through a number of price watch websites. This aspect really bothers be because they advertised one price throughout the web then decide they either made a mistake or could make $3200 per unit. Not only did the price jump but the cost of shipping as well (from ~$29 to $120+).

I know they perform price tests at times to find the sweet spot in the category but this is just wrong. Please take your lumps and honor the contract (sales receipt) Amazon/Target.

1.0 out of 5 stars What happened to 1899.00 Offer?, October 6, 2005
By
This review is from: Samsung LNR409D 40-Inch LCD Flat Panel HD-Ready TV (Electronics)
A friend purchased or thought he purchased the Samsung LN-R 409D last week and Amazon sent him an email that the deal is off.

Strange that Amazon and Target exorted people to: "Get on line, first come first serve" buy this item and then reneged on the deal.

There's a name for that..........

I hope all of you out there that had this happen write to both Amazon and Target and have them honor the sale at the 1899.00 quoted price.
