Great printer for the Price
I've owned this printer for a week and am very pleased. It's a great Printer for the price. It's well constructed, fast and simple to use. I share it on a home network with PCs running Win95, Win98 and WinXP. No problems printing. The driver provides access to all the printer's features on these platforms and is very straight forward. I considered the HP 1200 and...

Disappointing Features
What a shame - an excellent printer marred by a lousy driver and horrible technical support. You buy this for the low price, fast speed, 1200 dpi, watermarking, poster mode, manual duplexing. You install it and find the driver will not support manual duplexing, watermark, poster mode, 1200 dpi! Samsung wants you to buy a several hundred dollar postscript board and...

Great printer for the Price, March 31, 2003
This review is from: Samsung ML1650 Laser Printer (Office Product)
I've owned this printer for a week and am very pleased. It's a great Printer for the price. It's well constructed, fast and simple to use. I share it on a home network with PCs running Win95, Win98 and WinXP. No problems printing. The driver provides access to all the printer's features on these platforms and is very straight forward. I considered the HP 1200 and Brother 1450. I normally purchase HP printers but was disappointed in how flimsy the HP appeared. While I wouldn't mind Postscript which comes with the HP, it isn't essential and not worth the additional $$. The Brother was probably my second choice, but the Samsung had better specs and was less expensive. The Samsung WEB site could be improved, but I was able to eventualy validate that the drivers that came with the printer were up to date. They also have limited service coverage.

Save your money and buy something else from aaanother manufacturer.

Great small office printer, April 1, 2003
This review is from: Samsung ML1650 Laser Printer (Office Product)
We use it in our office... very quick and solid printing capability. The only drawback is that it seems to go through printer cartridges fairly quickly, but then again, we do print a lot of stuff. Overall, we're very satisfied with it!

Why need postscript?, January 21, 2003
This review is from: Samsung ML1650 Laser Printer (Office Product)
I've had for 2 weeks...do not have postscript card. Have not yet come across a PDF file that wouldn't print. Not sure what others are trying to print. Also, I've had no problem with manual duplexing. Have not tried 1200 dpi yet.

update on Samsung ML1650 Laserprinter, October 30, 2002
This review is from: Samsung ML1650 Laser Printer (Office Product)
I have now had this laser printer for 8 months. Installing the PostScript ROM took care of the won't print PDF files problem, but this ROM will set you back about $... if you buy it from Samsung. I have since seen it advertised by other vendors for about $... using Google searches. The additional printer memory has finally become available, but only the 32 mB size. Although the manual claims 16, 64 & 128 mB memory modules are also available, Samsung still can't provide them. There is only one RAM expansion socket, so you can't add printer memory by purchasing additional SIMMs later. Samsung will hit you up for $... plus tax and shipping for a 32 mB RAM (increasing the total available memory to 48 mB), but you can get the same module from S A Technologies for just $... (no, this is NOT a typo) plus tax & shipping. Make sure, though, that you order the ML1650 100-pin SIMM, which is LOW PROFILE, otherwise you won't be able to re-attach the closure plate. I can confirm that the ML1650 will recognize the SA Techchnologies SIMM, but only the 32 mB version. SA Technologies is still working on the 64 mB and 128 mB versions (as is Samsung). Had I realized that extra cost for the "must have" PostScript ROM and all the hassels in obtaining additional RAM that would work (both electronically and phsyically) I probably would have gone with a HP laser printer. But now that these teething problems have been solved, I am happy with my ML1650. Its very small footprint, super fast warmup, and whisper quietness are wonderful, and it's FAST. Printing quality is, of course, excellent, as one would expect from any laser printer. I have also learned that Samsung technical support sucks. Nevertheless, I have upgraded my rating to four stars.
