Monochrome Laser and Does its Job,
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Samsung ML-2250 Monochrome Laser Printer (Office Product)
My Brother HL-1440 started printing garbage pages after six months of use. I decided to get a new one. This fit the bill. This arrived in excellent condition within less than 24 hours after I ordered all the way to Hawaii via Fedex. Excellent job Amazon and Fedex.
The appearance of the ML-2250 is very attractive. It's glossy and compact. It's fast and it's capable of toner-save. The Pros Connects via USB or Parallel Compact size Excellent text quality on both paper and transparencies (no paper jam) Good performance Ample paper handing for a personal printer, with default 300-page capacity and a maximum of 550 pages 16MB standard memory - upgradable Fast Printing after first page Free shipping from Amazon Penny-per-page toner cost beats most competitors Single toner The Cons ONE BIG CON - Terrible graphics printing even when preferences is set to best possible configuration. Graphics quality is worse than other laser printers in its class. NOT CAPABLE of 10/100 Base TX Network interface without upgrade. To upgrade requires about $200 for ethernet and $250 for wireless. Takes a while for first page to print. Does not include parallel or USB cable. Generates quite a lot of heat even when printing only one or two pages. ----------------------------------------------- If you're going to print graphics, DO NOT get this printer. If you need a network printer without having to attach it to another computer, DO NOT get this printer. Instead get the ML-2251 which is more expensive but capable of network printing. You can, however, network this by attaching it to another computer and sharing it, which is what I did. If you think the toner cartridge that prints 5,000 pages that costs about $100 is to expensive, this may not be the one for you. This is only good for TEXT PRINTING.

Out of the dark ages and into the light,

First off let me ask, "Why doesn't Amazon have a picture of this attractive laser printer on the site?" It's certaintly one of the better looking lasers to have on your desk (for example: compared to the super ugly Hewlett Packards in the same price range) But enough about apperances. I'm a screenwriter, and I have been using an old HP laserjet 2p for the past four years until it finally gave out on me. So instead of spending 150 + to have it repaired I decided to shop around for something new. After two weeks on the hunt comparing various printers in the 200 dollar price range, I went with the Samsung ML 2250. HOLY TOLEDO!!!!!!! I won't bore you with the "out of the box" specs but to watch a 120 page screenlay spit out of your printer in about 6 minutes flat is enough to make me a believer. Especially when the entire script fits easily into the top "out" tray with room to spare. Also I get great, smudge free, crisp printing with not a whole lot of noise. (Although I must admit the HP 2p was a little quiter but it took 20 + minutes to kick out the same screenplay... and sometimes with bad pages... and I had to keep reloading the feeder tray in the process.) I've only had my new baby for two weeks, but with all the pluses (read about them in the description) why would you spend your money elsewhere. There's even a network version available or a network card that can be added to this one. Read the specs on this baby and try to see a picture of it somewhere on the net. And then remember I got mine for under 200 with shipping. Trust me, with what you get for this price and the quality there simply is no other monochrome laser to match it!

For superior B&W text printing...,

If you're looking for a black & white printer that offers superior text printing and for an incredibly low price, then this is it. Don't look no further, done deal. Feel free to read full, technical reviews of this product on PCWorld.com and PCMagazine.com.
Pros: 1. excellent text printing 2. compact design 3. very pleasant appearance (white with grey) 4. installation incredibly fast and easy (from setup to first page printing was about 10 minutes), BUT that's because I already had a USB cable which is not provided with this printer 5. low price 6. 1200 x 1200 dpi Cons: 1. system is noisy when it's powering up (was taken aback a little bit when I first juiced it up as my previous printer was an HP inkjet which was quiet as a mouse), this noise level lasts for a very short time and found it to be trivial 2. USB cable not provided (1/2 star deduction) 3. user's guide not provided, you have to download the 200 pages (1/2 star deduction) I have yet to print any graphs so I can't say anything about that. But then again, I did not buy this printer for that purpose.

Excellent Home Workhorse,
By
This review is from: Samsung ML-2250 Monochrome Laser Printer (Office Product)
I've had this printer several months and printed hundreds of pages for training manuals and probably hundreds of others copying web page content and scanned articles, including some graphics and photos. My results for graphics are apparently better than others have experienced, but I'm not expecting excellent results from a laser printer of this type. I use a Canon 8500 for photos and very high quality stuff. Once it starts up (and it does indeed take a half minute or so), it cranks the pages very quickly. I find the print quality excellent, even in the "toner save" mode which I almost always use. With much lower than average per page costs to print, I'm glad I made this purchase decision!

Five stars for a reason....,

This review is from: Samsung ML-2250 Monochrome Laser Printer (Office Product)
I give this one five stars for a reason, because it does what I need it to do. I did NOT get this printer to print any kind of graphics. I needed something that was affordable, prints fast, prints legibly, and can handle the workload that I dish out to it. As another reviewer stated, this is definitely a workhorse.
One of the things that impressed me the most about this printer is how easy it was to set up. The night that I received it, I needed it for printing self-laminating cable labels for a telecommunications project I'm working on. Within 30 minutes, I had the printer set up and running without any problems whatsoever. I used the front loading tray to manually feed the sheets of labels, and the rear output tray in order to eliminate the possibility of any of the labels from coming off and causing some sort of a jam. Over all, this printer does what I need it to do. Another deciding factor for me was the cost of replacement toner cartridges. The cost ratio for the amount of pages per cartiridge, is very affordable. And one last thing, noise is not an issue either as others have commented on.

Fast, excellent text. But don't buy this printer unless you're deaf. For 10-11 minutes after each print job it emits a faint(but not faint enough)high-pitched whine. We couldn't believe this was a "feature," so we got our first unit replaced. Same noise. Probably OK in a loud office, but if you need to write or think in the same room with it, you're going to have to turn it off repeatedly. Fortunately, unlike some other newer printers, it DOES have an on/off switch.

Good printer, but TOO noisy,
By
This review is from: Samsung ML-2250 Monochrome Laser Printer (Office Product)
I've had the same problem as some others here...NOISE. In particular a high pitched whine that stays on for about 10 minutes or so when the printer is powered up. I think it's the fan thats the culprit. I thought it was a bad unit so i sent it back and the replacement had the same annoying whine.
Otherwise an excellent printer. You can print a stack of envelopes and postcards and it's fast too. C'mon Samsung, quiet this baby down and you've got a kickass printer here.

Slow starter,

For the first few days after I bought this new printer, the paper would stop in the printer about 50% of the time and the red light would blink. But it wasn't really a jam because if I removed the papertray and then put it back in, the sheet of paper would feed through. Gradually the problem improved and now, about a month later, the paper rarely "jams". Other than that minor problem at the start, it is great.

For light use only,

This product is best for those who have only an occasional need for a few copies. It is very noisy, gets very hot after 20 copies, curls the paper severely making 2 sided copying difficult, and paper jams are the rule rather than the exception if making more that around 10. We are also experiencing a lot of garbled jobs at times that waste paper by spewing out incomprehensible jabber on paper. When it does work, on small jobs, it is fast and the print is clear. Right now we are experiencing an inability to obtain a compatible toner cartridge at either Office Max, or Office Depot. We are exploring an on line purchase of toner, but we needed copies yesterday. I would not recommend this for anyone unless the price and foot print are a perfect fit. I think most of us under-estimate our printing needs and, when the time comes for an moderate sized job, you will find yourself with a lot of wasted time and paper.

I bought this printer 2 months ago after doing couple of days of intense survey to find a printer that is cheap and reliable. The reviews I read, on various reputed websites, regarding this printer were mostly positive. Apart from the fact that the printer's graphic printing is below par, the text printing according to various reviewers was very good which is actually true. In addition printer, according to the manufacturer's provides cartridge for around 4000 pages which is great amount for an individual user. The printer however, does NOT comes with 4000 page cartridge but 1500! Please keep this in mind before buying this printer as the reviews by the manufactures are mis-leading.I have restrained myself writing a negative review but the problem started only 10-12 days after I bought this printer. Apparently the paper has a habit of getting stuck in the machine while printing. When this happened first couple of times I thought it was accidental. However, this has been happening much more frequently and it has now come to a point that it takes me an hour sometimes to get the paper removed from the machine as it gets all torn while coming out and most of it is stuck inside. The reason for this is, from my understanding, that the Samsung ML-2250 model gets very hot which affects the paper printing and paper gets all severely crumpled when it comes out. After re-reading other reviews more carefully, I realized that quite a few folks had same kind of problem related with this printer. That is why in my opinion, although this printer looks fantastic from the outside, it has some serious mechanical design problems. For people who already have this printer, my suggestion would be to open the back lid for printing paper. Apparently when the machine gets too hot (~380-400F) its easier to get paper come out un-stuck if the back lid of the printer is open but the trade-off of doing this is that the paper comes out from back than the proper front side. July 2007: Now less than 2 months after I wrote the above, my printer went dead on me. I also phoned Customer service of Samsung and had to deal with an un-polite representative who was of no help. Now I have ended up binning the printer as I got no help from Samsung and have bought a new laser printer from Dell. Overall I had a terrible experience with this printer and Samsung's customer service. Please ignore this printer at all cost... |
