1.0 out of 5 stars It's Junk!, August 28, 2008

It's unavailable on Amazon as of this review, but don't buy it anywhere else. We bought at least 10 for digital signage for our college, 7 of the 10 have had the exact same problem with a bad power supply. They start out looking nice, but one day you'll find the picture has gone dark. These are on from 7am to 11pm, 5 days a week, off on weekends and started breaking (the first one) about a year after we had them, and now a little over 2 years in, they're going black one right after the other.

These are "supposed" to be presentation monitors--in other words to last--especially for more than a year or two. We were going to go with Sony, went Samsung last minute, now we wished we had gone with the Sony's. Avoid these like the plague!

And think twice about purchasing Samsung. The repairmen were and still are a pain to even get out here. One even broke the screen (in addition to the power supply already being rotten) and then Samsung tried to weasel their way out of that one too. All lemons.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works great if not abused with temp. extremes, December 11, 2009
This review is from: Samsung Monitors & Printers (400PNBlack) 40" Samsung 400PN Net enabled (Electronics)
Many of these exact units were installed at both Denver and Colorado Springs airports in Colorado about 5 years ago. being they are airports they have been used quite constantly as information displays and no issues with burn in or black out. A certain other person has put a 1 star rating and even posted a pic showing spot of black out. From the pic you can tell the unit was probably in a foyer entry way with windows behind showing the inside. This would be ok in Florida but not in Utah where winter temps will cause areas near doorways to dip very low and thus damage units. Also of note is the actual black spot on screen. These are designed with 2 sides of lighting power and actual bulbs running across entire screen. Normal malfunction would mean either one side blacks out or entire screen, NOT "spots". This is indicative of cold temps interfering with the function of actual bulbs. I have seen this many times before as people don't think about it when putting up displays in June and then also don't think about it later while sitting in their nice cozy office in December. Not until about February or March when the low temps have taken toll (mostly due to condensation forming and thawing numerous times per day) do they call us for repair or replacement and act bewildered until we explain how the area placed is so very important. needless to say we remount them further from door for them. LCD displays and tv are pretty much the same but Samsung is ONE of the best and the old saying holds true - Go with one of the 5 'S' brands.
