One amazing little netbook!,
By The Reluctant "Wyzyrd" (San Luis Obispo, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Samsung GO N310-13GMB 10.1-Inch Mint Blue Netbook - 9 Hour Battery Life (Personal Computers)
I chose the Samsung GO because I like the layout of the keyboard, and I liked the ease of slipping in the 2GB memory upgrade. Undo one screw, open the door at the bottom of the case, unlatch two clips and slip the memory board out of the netbook. The upgraded memory board slipped right in, close the latches, close the little door and replace the screw that holds the door closed. Easy, simple, quick. Upgraded memory works great!
One small note: the photos show a soft, pastel mint blue case. Not so. The actual color is a vibrant, eye-popping turquoise that you'll either love or not. It's distinctive, it's unusual, and it is not everyone's cup of tea. Those who like it (like my wife) really like it a lot. Others think it's a bit on the wild side. But whether or not you may like the color, there's just no denying that this is a great little netbook. Keyboard feels solid and sturdy, and is a bit bigger than the keyboard found on most netbooks (92% of full size as opposed to 89% as found on most). The difference is in the key spacing, and it is noticeable. Typing on the Samsung GO is easy and comfortable. This is an easy netbook to like. A lot. It fires up in seconds, connected perfectly to every wireless system where I've tried to use it, gives a bright, clear display that's far easier to read than you might expect, and packs in all the features I really need when surfing the internet. The Bluetooth connectivity is great, and I do use a Bluetooth enabled mouse when I'm working on projects using this netbook. Otherwise, I use the touchpad, which is sufficient for surfing the internet or just sending emails. Feel of the netbook is amazing, sturdy and solid and very well built. Nothing flimsy about this machine. It comes packed with software, and you may want to remove some that you might not use often. I download files to a memory key that I can transport from computer to computer, so the 160 GB hard drive is more than sufficient for my purposes. And the battery life is awesome ... I do get nearly nine hours when using it in battery-saver mode. Almost six in the faster normal mode. That's plenty of time for most of my purposes. Compare this to the others and I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. There are many good netbooks out there, all are small and convenient. The Samsung GO is more expensive than most of the others, but it just feels more solid and better build than most. It is incredibly lightweight at less than 3 pounds, and comes in a variety of striking colors for those not afraid to be noticed. Burnt Orange, Midnite Blue, Black and the "Mint Blue" which is anything but a subtle pastel ... all but the Black case will stand out in a crowd, and even the Black Samsung GO is distinctive. If you have a chance to touch one on display somewhere, check this netbook out. It is as different from the others as it would appear to be in the photos with this article. I give this one five (5) stars. It's a keeper!

After quite a bit of looking around, ended up with the N310 for a variety of reasons. I have a three year old notebook but it's a pain to lug around. Made sense when I first got it (big screen, plenty of power) because I was consulting (after retirement). Now smaller makes sense since the netbook will be used primarily as a communications device when we're on vacations.
First, went to retail stores to see netbooks. In general, all available there (ASUS, Acer, HP) looked flimsy at best. Most of the demos had keys missing already. Keyboards (and I don't have big hands) didn't seem that good. Second, we have other Samsung products in the home - it's a brand I'm likely to buy because our experience with it. Third - the N310 looked to be pretty solid (and it seems so now - much more of a solid feel than any I saw in retail) with a rubberized cover and a chiclet keyboard. Fourth, my wife - who is not too technology oriented - liked the look of this netbook (she suggested the mint blue). While she's unlikely to use it, she's into what technology looks like. I considered the Toshiba and the ASUS models, but in the end chose Samsung. I can't say I was able to compare them side by side. One question was whether it made sense to wait til Windows 7. It is likely that it might have. But then again these machines are matched to a pretty specific need - and it's not necessarily high tech. For me it's e-mail and occasional Office work. I put OpenOfficeo on and the VLC media player in addition to Firefox. Net there's a lot you can do with XP and are likely to be able to do for quite a while. That and XP is familiar. Had it running in no time (although 48 XP updates had to be applied). I did upgrade the memory - trivial. Don't think I had to but it seemed to make sense given the life cycle. I ordered from Crucial rather than Amazon after using Crucial's wizard - it's recommendation didn't match the Amazon Crucial part. So far (a week+) very happy. Really appreciate the solid feel. Doesn't appear to have a lot of junk software that has to be removed. Battery looks to be impressive. No real problem with the keyboard. I guess it's also fair to say that cost wasn't a major factor - this is a bit more than alternatives but given the prices for netbooks, plus or minus 10% isn't a issue factor for me. I know it is for others. I'd suggest durability may justify the extra cost and who knows what people will pay for "style".

cutest, most portable thing out there!,

I love just about everything about I've experienced with this 'mint-blue' netbook since I received it a few weeks ago. I only have a couple complaints, which are really more like slight annoyances. For one, I've noticed that when using Wi-fi, I get about 1 bar less than any other laptop right next to me. I've compared it to 4 other laptops of various ages and abilities and they all get better reception. The only other thing that is really quite minor, is that when i;m using the netbook unplugged and the screen dims after a period of un-use, the screen will flicker slightly. It really shouldn't bother anyone but people like me who get annoyed by very minor things, but I thought I should point it out.
Other than that, I have found my Samsung N310 to be quite the companion, and it really hasn't left my side since I got it. I really enjoy the long battery life and still haven't quite gotten used to not having to plug it in every couple hours. Its so freeing! Also, if I weren't so dependant on internet, I would give it 5 stars, but it has become a bit of a hindrance.

Hi,
I bought my GO about a monthe ago and ...WOW. I was used to go on trip with my laptop and always complained about the weight and the space. The netbook was really the answer. I thought about going MAC with their Macair, but decide against it as I only need a MAC to work at home and in most of the place I go, PC are used so easier to stay PC. I like the key board. I was a bit worried about the size and I have relatively big hands. Guess what? So far I haven't misskeyed. The battery life is incredible. When I am not using my GO (during talks etc...) I put in stand by...doing so, I can use it the whole day and even wghen I go back to my hotel, more than 50% of the power is still present. So far a very good buy

I looked at a lot of the small laptops on the market, most called "netbooks". They were all cheaply made, and about the same price. I came across this samsung netbook and its great! super construction., nice rubberized case, many features the others dont have... this one has it all and Amazon has the best price on the net!!! I purchased it because I am in graduate school and I have to do a lot of online wrighting. The only bad thing is no microsoft office products, but NONE of the netbooks come with microsoft office suite. And none of these micro laptops come with cd burners. Of all the little laptops this one is the very best.... AND I am still shocked how much I saved on amazon.com.... Now just if I could get the digital camera I want on amazon for a great price... I highly recommend this laptop its great you wont be disapointed and you definately will not find a better price than amazon... not even ebay...
also super fast shipping and amazing customer service.... I feel that amazon is quickly surpassing ebay on many levels... Peace and love during this holiday season -Chris

First off let me congratulate Amazon on amazing shipping speed!! I ordered the netbook on a Tuesday evening using Super Saver Free Shipping and it arrived by noon on Thursday!!! This little gadget is great; I bought it for my wife who has little attention span at the computer, with this tool, she actually keeps up with email, started a facebook and really likes the Samsung. The color is perfect, she loves turquoise. For me, it is a little slow switching between the applications and I am now considerring a 2 GB upgrade. The battery life is great, display is clear and the keyboard is well spaced for even my big hands! I would highly recommend this netbook for any prospective buyer!

Thanks to everyone who posted product reviews! They were invaluable to me in purchasing this netbook as well as a SnapScan 1500 scanner and NeatWorks software for receipts. I purchased the Samsung GO after spending hours reading reviews here of many of the netbook models. I orginally wanted an HP, then looked at ASUS, and others. I wanted a five-star reviewed netbook with XP and a comfortable keyboard. The Samsung was priced higher than I wanted to spend, but I got a brand new "used" one on Amazon for $364 total. I've been using it for a couple of weeks now and it's improved the quality of my life considerably! It's enabled me to have a very portable computer with me whenever I leave the house. It's so light I carry it in a small shoulder bag and I can hardly tell it's there. That's very important to me because I have some physical limitations. I can easily set it up and work in cafes that have free wireless, without needing to be near an electrical outlet. The biggest advantage (and the main reason I wanted a netbook) is it is enabling me to work out of the house where my partner is often home (!). It's sturdy, fast, and light. The battery does last a long time, in part because the computer shuts down when you're not using it. Netbooks in general are an adjustment for me because you can't load software onto them from CDs and the monitors are further away from you and smaller. I had a lot of eye strain and headaches the first few days of using this but that's gone away. Let's see, things I would prefer to be different with this product: you can't readily open it without touching and smudging the monitor screen, sometimes the format of web pages is different, preventing me from performing typical functions, but this could be a set-up issue, on some web pages the type is HUGE and changing the font appearance doesn't help (probably something I screwed up!), the turquoise is beautiful and unique but it's pretty intense and I wish I'd gotten blue or black, and it would be nice if it came with a carrying case. I'm very happy with this product and brag about it to people who ask me about it in cafes. Of course they notice it because no one else has a netbook yet and this one is a beautiful turquoise!

Amazing little laptop. Good quality build and not cheap looking like the rest. Worth the extra cash. The utility's that come pre installed are actually useful! :) Especially the bluetooth networking. I can easily use bluetooth to tether to my cell phone with this baby. Love it.

Portability at the expense of performance,
This review is from: Samsung GO N310-13GMB 10.1-Inch Mint Blue Netbook - 9 Hour Battery Life (Personal Computers)
Pros
1. portability: so light, you can carry them anywhere. This works nicely when I travel or go to coffee shops for net surfing. 2. easy to hold: the rubber-like outer material makes it easy to hold, and makes it less messy-looking as time goes on 3. comfortable typing: each key is well spaced, so no thick thumb problem (not a lot of typing errors) 4. high resolution screen: I think it's a must given a small screen 5. cute look: it feels good when you have a cute-looking netbook. It's like wearing nice clothes. Cons specific to this netbook 1. Mouse pad: response is kind of slow; If you don't like this, just be patient or don't move too fast. Use mouse. 2. Anti-virus software needs to be renewed after one year's use. To get around this problem, I just downloaded a free antivirus Cons - this applies to all netbooks (Be Aware!!!) 1. Low performance: it's because it comes with low computing power and RAM like all other netbooks. Don't think to use this for high performance activity like gaming. For me, this works the best during conference. To fix this problem, add additional RAM but it can be expensive, or don't install too many programs. 2. Small screen: you have to scroll at least 1.5 times than usual to read whatever, it will make you tired after long use, your work effectiveness can be affected by this. Not much solution, but you can use full screen (F11)

so i just recieved my Samsung Go in the turquoise blue and i absolutely LOVE IT!!! i've been using mac for aslong as i can remeber soo its taking a bit to get used to PC ..but for a teen who uses comps mostly for web browsing ,papers and camera fun its seems to hold out great so far ...I've reseached a few companies and mostly all netbooks are quite similar so i chose the Go because of its battery life chicklet keyboard and kik ass design ... yea the samsung logo is a bit obnoxious but its not that bad especially if u add ur own touch of stickers.
my cons are the speakers truly suck (but u could hook up external speakers n head phones) the font is crazy small n i wear glasses so thats a pain (im pretty sure u could fix that in settings ) n thats it so far yea it was almost 470 but its worth it if you like to stand out and cant stand the glossy-ness of all the other netbooks this baby is for you =D |
