I pre-ordered this unit when it was first available. Saw it at CES and sent several emails to Samsung asking to bring it here.

I am so glad I have this. The solar panel is about 5 watts (pretty hard to monitor because it's wired into the charger unit) and does as advertised! A little better than advertised but that's because the panels have yet seasoned. 1hr of Sun gets me just over 2hrs of runtime. They make cases and bags with a clear cover for the panel.

It charges just fine on my desk though. Indirect charging I measured to be about 1hr of runtime for every 3hrs sitting on the desk in Sleep mode during the summer sun here in Pa. My desk is about 5' from the window but in direct light WITH UV coating on the glass (windows are only 3 yrs old).

Performance: It's still an Atom CPU and intel GMA3150 graphics. 2gb ram MAX (you can put in 4gb but your wasting money) with Single Channel only. An AMD C30 netbook (also owned and added a 2w panel to the lid for charging - cool but clunky) has a single core but performs better and the graphics on it outperform the Intel. BUT the Intel wins in power performance, and that's what you want in this type of package.

Screen: Screen is Matte! NO GLARE! Works well in the sun too but I wear Polarized sunglasses which don't work at all with LCD screens. Still, no problems working in the sun, car, train or bus. Little strained in direct sun so turn around and shade it if you can. Better than an iPad.

Wireless: It's Intel Centrino 1x1 card is NOT great. It works and I can connect to the Airport Extreme's we use but the Broadcom's just seem to work better. Bluetooth works fine. I use Moto BT headset and my Blackberry 9670 with it.

USB: Typical 1025mb/s transfer. Nothing to write home or cry about.

I am using Samsung NC215 netbook for the last three weeks and overall I am very happy with it!

I am an academic who travels quite a lot, and thus I was looking for a portable laptop/netbook with looooooong battery life and good enough to run applications such as Office applications, access the internet and run my statistical packages. Samsung NC215 does it all with no hesitation.

Its battery life is so long that you really forget when it was the last time you charged it! Working on Office applications it can easily lasts for 10-12 hours. Of course getting in to the internet or watching a movie consumes more power but overall I believe that the power consumption is the lowest I have seen. For instance, I compare it with my Toshiba Portege R835 (with an Intel i5 processor) that I use at home and my Samsung really consumes half the energy my Toshiba does.

On the other hand, the solar panel it bring along is very innovative and I believe that it will change the industry when it becomes more advanced. However, in Samsung NC215 the panel is still quite "primitive" in the sense that it gives you almost 2watts of energy under direct sun lighting. This means that having it for 2 hours under direct sunlight gives you on average 1.2-1.4 hours extra battery life. This is not that bad, but of course how practical it is to have your netbook for two hours under direct sunlight. Of course, it does also charge if you have it close to your window in a bright day, but very little (0.4-0.6 watts). The big plus for it would be to charge it through office lighting, but I am sure that this is left for the future. At the same time it carries along a very strong battery (8800mAh). Overall these characteristics makes Samsung NC215 unbeatable in terms of battery life.

Way better than all hp netbooks I have seen and used. Keyboard is well spaced and the solar panel is another great asset to the netbook.
It's build is solid and feel is great
I will recommend this to anyone out there looking for a netbook to buy.

I have been waiting for this product for a long time. It just arrived and it has an insane amount of dead pixels, right out of the box. BUYER BEWARE.I have not checked out all the features yet, because I am going to have to send it back. There is an entire line of dead pixels in the front of the screen. If its broken on arrival, I can only imagine what type of quality this netbook has. Sad story.

Ok so why is this not available???

I give it a 1 because it is officially VAPORWARE.

THIS IS EFFING 2012.

I demand a machine that can run at 100% CPU power cold (Please no f**** oven on my legs) for at LEAST 5 days on battery charge, and that can be recharged in a few hours on sunshine for another 5 days run.

And that can also last 50-100 years like the terminator.

No I am not joking. Anything else is just bloatware, a regression to less and less.

And the scourge of VAPORWARE is also here to give us "promises" never kept. They promised us jetpacks too, and those who did needs to be in jail like the crooks they are.

DEMAND machines like these to at least send the message.

I refuse to buy a laptop, a smart phone or any car not powered by solar.

I may wait forever but it shows that our species is regressing. And the first woodpecker (or first blackout) to come along will destroy civilization.
