Incredible device, a little pricey though, September 5, 2008
This review is from: Samsung NP-Q1UAP01/SEA 7-inch Ultra Mobile PC (Intel Core Solo U1500 Processor, 2 GB RAM, 80 GB Hard Drive, Vista Business) (Personal Computers)
I am a scientist and due to my work I need a great deal of mobility. I got this device with an extra AC adapter (one for home and one for my lab), because are the main areas where I work and with the 6-cell battery I can get more than 6 hours without wifi. I bought a cheap usb keyboard for paper writing and I can say that I dont need any more. Vista runs smoothly with the 2gb and it handles all what I need in a very satisfying way. The screen is really good, very bright, and although everyone tells me about how small is the 7inch screen, I find it totally aceptable for my work. I already took it to a congress outside my city and to a trip into the US (i'm from Chile) and for the first time I did not miss anything, because I had it all within this device. I had to prepare a results discussion and I did the powerpoint presentation in the plane without any difficulty. I find this device almost perfect. I use foldershare in order to sync both computers, mozy for some cloud computing and the google pack for everything else. For the first time I can consider myself a road warrior. My next purchase will be an extra 6-cell battery, but for now I can say that my expectations are completely fulfilled. I recommend it a 100%.

Better then others state, June 17, 2008

I love this product! No it is not a laptop replacement nor is it a desktop replacement. What it is, is a better functioning smart phone. This is the step between laptop and smartphone. It is designed to write on like a tablet. It then converts the writing to text very easily. I have the Q1 Ultra which is the step down from this NEW faster processor model. I have Vista Ultimate on mine and have no issues. I use outlook 2007 and Onenote (my life for work). I can do EVERYTHING I can do on my local desktop but in a very mobile place and with out the size of a laptop. I dont think this device is for everyone. But if you are like me and travel and go on jobsites and need blueprints and files and email (you know everything at the office) but want it right in front of you but dont want to whip out a laptop THIS IS FOR YOU. One thing this does not come with though that I suggest is Microsoft Onenote 2007 it is MADE for a tablet and it really has brought tru digital organization to my business life.

Nice product., October 19, 2008

I really wanted a smaller PC that I could travel with and would be fairly reliable. I mainly do things like use Word or play games.
This is slow out of the box. Tweak it, get the model with XP; do everything you can to get the speed to a point you can work with. With a little work (in my case using vLite to kill some of Vista can do to a system) and some smart software choices, this can be an awesome miniature system.
The major issues I've noticed with this comes from the hard drive and the processor.
The hard drive is just small. 80GB can be enough for some people. I was able to get what I wanted on the system with about 30GB to spare to cycle out games and videos from time to time later on when I start running out of room. Definitely figure out what your storage needs are.
The processor? It's Intel. And yes you can go back and forth about AMD and Intel and this or that, but when it comes down to it I've had better experiences with AMD when it comes to my needs over Intel. So why not choose a UMPC with AMD? I love this pc's design over anything else I saw out there.
Other things to note:
- The battery life (generally 6 hours) is more than adequate for my needs away from a plugin.
- If you're into it, there are some additional items for the UMPC. (Car charger, protective cases, etc.)
- The QWERTY keyboard layout is odd for me to use. It uses a different split on the keyboard than I'm used to (I'm used to the split being where the normal hand placement for the keys should be) so typing is an issue at times (use a usb keyboard for anything more than a sentence or two).
I haven't run into an issue yet with this system and it can really pack a punch if you treat it right.
