After blowing up another computer, not from overuse but from downloading a virus, I bought this computer from Best Buy for $630.

The Positives

Windows 8 is not hard to learn. Using a Windows mouse ($19 at Best Buy), its easy to toggle between the Windows 8 desktop and a Windows 7-like desk top.

Windows 8 apps can be deleted or minimized and you can create your own. It's actually easier to toggle between apps using Windows 8 than Windows 7.

After using it several times, it seems to "learn" what you do and the computer speeds up in opening apps and browsers - initially I found it rather slow.

I have had no problems with WIFI disconnects except once and I have problems with my WIFI disconnecting anyway, so can't blame the computer.

It wakes up instantly from "sleep" which I prefer to using rather than completely turning off my computer.

Its very lightweight and compact and has a nice feel.

The built-in mouse is actually decent to use, responding very well to touch. I usually hate using them.

It does not require you to create recover disks. It has a recover feature, but have no idea how well that works - bottomline, play it safer and buy an external harddrive for data backup.

Has nice quality sound, better than any laptop I've owned in the past.

Comes with built in WIFI and bluetooth.

The Cons

Windows 8 may intimidate at first, but it is actually easy to learn and can be easily modified to meet your preferences. However, it can be cumbersome as you are trying to learn. Apps open in Windows 8 do not have a minimize screen. You have to toggle between them (as I said using a Windows Mouse makes this fairly easy - but a new user will find it cumbersome).

Watch out the cheap plastic hinges used to open and close the laptop broke on me in less than a year. The power cord also went out. Although it is still under warranty there is no repair center locally to take it to. Samsung wants me to send it to them and estimate it will take at least a month to repair. (Probably much longer.) A rip off for the price!! I am seriously considering just buying another computer that has the single large hinge (about eight inches) in the center of the laptop. I had a Toshiba satellite with the center hinge for at least 5 years with no problems. Samsung is getting out of the computer business so beware.

This laptop is so slow and unreliable. It is frozen more than it is operable. It kicks off of websites very easily and takes forever to restart. It is temperamental and difficult to navigate from one operation to another. No disk drive, and such an unreliable computer that I am not willing to invest any more money in its function. So disappointed after purchasing this computer, only relieved that I have a computer at work and an iPad, otherwise I would be buying another new laptop. The worst computer I have ever used. DO NOT BUY!!

It WAS a great computer. Had everything I needed, and nothing I didn't. It integrated nicely with my Samsung phone, tablet, and TV. Then - just 3 months out of warranty, it died. It just decided to not boot. Took it to Geek Squad, and they said there is nothing that can be done. Spen an hour on the phone with Samsung, and they confirmed. I understand that it is out of warranty, but Samsung used to have a great reputation for quality, and I paid a premium price. One would think that you could get more than a year out of this. My last computer was a cheap Acer. Had it for five years, and now my family is still using it. I'm OK buying a new computer, or even replacing a part every three years, but this is rediculous. It was only used a couple hours a day for homework and email, so hardly had any hours on it or any hard use. VERY DISAPPOINTED.

Worst computer I have ever had. My employer bought a couple of these to replace some of our aging (ANCIENT) Dells. I spent the first 5 weeks carrying 2 computers around - my Dell as a backup while this thing continually malfunctioned. After having our tech dept. fix, update and do everything they could to optimize performance (including all the updates to fix the screen brightness and all the other common issues everyone gripes about with this POS), they have finally gotten it to operate at a marginally acceptable level - I'm pretty sure they got sick of me bringing it to them every other day. It is still slower than any laptop I have owned since 1999 and it still kicks me off wifi every 15-20 minutes. I would think this would be a fluke except my coworkers have the exact same problems, and other reviewers here also have the same problems. This thing has slowed my productivity at work considerably - the only benefit is that it weighs half of what my old Dell did. DO NOT BUY this unless you enjoy updating, tweaking, looking up fixes, chatting with Samsung tech support, and generally spending more time maintaining than using. It's kind of like owning a Yugo.

Initially the computer started up very slowly, but once I got windows 8 off my computer, it functioned much more quickly. Although I'm not a computer expert or anything of the sort, I think windows 8 would be more useful on a touch screen device. Since this is not one, it was more of a hindrance. But to each their own! Although it's not really fun getting a brand new computer and having to change the operating system because it's running too slowly.
I Really enjoy the feel of this laptop, and have had no issues with the hinges (some reviewers had problems with them breaking), although I'm very gentle with it. I'm able to play my computer games pretty easily on this device. It's not exactly designed for gaming, but i'm happy with how they run. If you need top notch performance in this area, maybe a different computer would be best for you. Great for school, though. Very light weight.

Hoped this helped, happy shopping!!
