Great Monitor,

This review is from: Samsung P2450H 24-Inch Widescreen Touch of Color LCD Monitor - Rose Black (Personal Computers)
The monitor looks and performs great.I have a "droopy lip" Touch of Color red TV in the living room and I think I prefer the squared off look of this monitor. The red is very subtle around the edges with a brighter spot just below the SAMSUNG logo. The controls take a bit of getting used to and can be difficult to find in the dark when the monitor is off. Typically swiping my finger along the right side of the bottom edge is enough to turn the monitor on and/or light up the controls. The base for the monitor is a bit wobbly if you don't have a sturdy desk. The default color calibration is pretty good. The greens seem a bit hot. It's very bright at the default settings as well. The included MagicTune software for Windows 7 was listed as Beta and I was never able to get it to work properly. I tried downloading the version of the software Samsung suggests on their site for Windows 7 and all it would do is tell me it was incompatible. This was disappointing, but not a huge deal. The biggest issue for me was that when I plugged the monitor in via HDMI, the edges of the picture were cut off. It was running in the native 1080p resolution. I tried changing the resolution and nothing seemed to help. I started digging around in the menus of the monitor and noticed that under SETUP&RESET there is a PC/AV Mode option. For some reason, the default setting was AV. I'm guessing they are assuming that if you're using the HDMI input, you are plugging in a non-PC component. This seems like an odd assumption on a PC monitor. The manual didn't mention anything about this being a potential issue. Hopefully this bit of knowledge will help someone else.

I recently purchased this monitor for my daughter to use with her MacMini. It is a very expensive looking monitor with excellent controls and image. I work for a printing company in their imaging department and I would say that for the money it is a top notch monitor. You would be hard pressed to find anything better at this price. The packaging came with all the right cables and I was able to hook it up to the MacMini with no problem at all. I work with color images all day and I couldn't find anything I dislike with this monitor so far. As for the reviewer who posted that the monitor's base was fixed, they either upgraded it or the poster didn't install it right because I was able to tilt it backwards and forwards. I'll say that its equal to my Mac 23 inch Cinema or even better at a fraction of the the price.

perfect on a TRIPOD!,
This review is from: Samsung P2450H 24-Inch Widescreen Touch of Color LCD Monitor - Rose Black (Personal Computers)
I go through a lot of pc monitors at work, upgrading quite frequently. I have to say the color and picture quality is super crisp on this baby. I response time is great, and brightness control is smooth. HOWEVER!!! I can only give this item a two star because of the stinkin stand that it sits on. I mean let me tell you something. This has to have one of the worst stands on pc monitor I have ever seen. Unstable, if you push your desk even a little it wobbles. Due to the heaviness of the screen it sort of leans a bit forward at all times. If you sit this thing on a regular computer desk, you may want to try lying on the floor to get a good view, otherwise stick this thing on a camera tripod next to your desk, or wall mount this thing. Otherwise...you will go nuts! trust me.

For years now, I have just been working on my original MacBook with a 13.3" screen (1280 x 800). I hadn't looked at the prices of new LCDs until I saw an article about a new 27" ViewSonic when I decided to start looking into them again. $259 for at 24" Samsung is such an amazing deal; I have doubled my screen real estate (tripled if I use this monitor in addition to the MacBook's monitor). The DVI quality is superb and the screen is ridiculously bright - the sun could be right behind me and the monitor still shines...I actually have to keep the brightness turned down slightly.Overall I highly recommend this if you're in the market for your first or a replacement external monitor. This is my second Samsung LCD product, the first being a 42" LCD TV which has been equally as awesome.

Overall, I'm happy with the P2450H.Pro 1: 3 inputs - DVI, VGA, HDMI. HDMI added about $50 to the cost of this monitor but it definitely came in handy when I was able to hookup the HDMI output from a cheapo graphics card on a new computer. So I was running three computers using one monitor - really great. When I got rid of the old computer, I kept the new one on HDMI - picture looks fantastic. Pro 2. After a few days, I found I did not need the so called fast response time or maximum brightness. I have set it using the supplied software to "Internet" and find the monitor is sufficiently bright in my room. Sometimes, I bump it up to a custom user configuration when watching video. BTW, this monitor can be dazzling bright if you so need and can be adjusted via software depending on the time of day and room light levels. Pro 3. People complain about the touch buttons but once you understand them they work fine. Touch once to activate (labels light up so you can see where the touch buttons are) before using. After the initial settings, you rarely need to touch them except to switch inputs - you can control the monitor from software, i.e. Magictune. Con 1: Magictune x64 software for Windows 7 64-bit is rather flaky and will sometimes disable itself requiring me to kill it and restart. I often get 3 icons in the system tray in addition to a LCD gamma icon. Update: one suggested solution is to use the 32 bit version of Magictune instead of the 64 bit version - so far so good. Con 2: Magictune does not save more than one user configuration. Big win if Samsung would add this. Con 3: Slightly wobbly stand, not bad but not great like a Dell stand. Con 4: No height adjustment or swivel on the stand. Con 5: Limited viewing angle. I understand that this monitor has pretty good viewing angles given the technology used (TN). Becoming acclimated to the many options (color, warmth, brightness, contrast, response time) and finding the right combination of those options takes time. I have to say I wasn't a happy camper for a few days. A week later, I am satisfied with what seems to be a decent monitor for a working guy that does not do games or professional graphic work.

I will keep it brief and to the point. I upgraded from a Dell 22" LCD screen 1680x1050. Some people may think oh not such a big difference, wrong. The picture quality on this screen is amazing. very crisp clear and brings out true colors. Movies are fantastic even older games like FSX look 100% better than it did on the old monitor. Very bright takes a little bit to get use to i probably should turn it down. This monitor shows what my Asus GTX480 video card is truely capable of i am very very very pleased. As for the stand, its not shaking as i type and its not going to fall over even if i dance around the computer desk. I dont see how it differs from any other monitor i have. Dont give out negative reviews becuase your intentionally shaking the screen or you didnt put the stand together correctly and it wobbles. If your looking for an enthusiest monitor for gamingg, simming, movies and multimedia than is the right monitor thank you samsung and [...] becuase i got it way cheaper.

This is a fantastic monitor, but the first delivery was defective (monitor would randomly shut off during use). Amazon promptly replaced the monitor and the second works like a charm. The accompanying software is weak, not really necessary and does not reliably work on Windows 7.

I upgraded to this monitor from an older 22" Samsung SyncMaster. The display is very bright, graphics are crisp, and was plenty fast for gaming. Plenty of real estate with this monitor. My only complaint is that the bezel is very thick and glossy. This causes a reflection at the edges of the monitor. There was also a bright cast at the top of the monitor when watching videos with a black background. Overall a great monitor and a good value.

This is a great monitor. Looks sleek and picture quality is nice. Plenty fast for gaming. My only complaint is mine arrived with (3) stuck pixels (two green and one blue). I left it on for 24 hours and the blue one is now working. I am hoping in another day or so the green one near center starts working. The other one since it is lower I can live with. If it doesn't fix itself then I will see about returning, as I believe spending this much on a monitor it should be near flawless. Besides who wants to look at a green stuck pixel for many years. Stuck pixels seem like regular issue with these LCDs, as I had same issue with an ASUS and returned it.

Well basically I got the unlucky one. Did a lot of research on reviews on this product before purchasing it - and in the end decided to buy it. Nothing about the actual product really bothered me initially. I'm sure it would have been an awesome monitor if I didn't have any problems with the actual hardware. The stand was adjustable at least for tilt, contrary to what some people stated. My problem instead is that after about two weeks of having this monitor running, I noticed one day when I opened up a google page that on blank white backgrounds I had speckled patches of multicolored stuck pixels. At first I thought it was lighting or dust, but I downloaded a pixel diagnostic app and sure enough the whole patch was stuck in one of the color modes or another. After trying to repair the pixels using screen noise and light pressure (typical for lcd screens) I thought that I had eliminated the first patch, only to turn on my screen later in the day to a few rogue pixels all over my screen. If the issue had been isolated to the first set it wouldn't have been an issue, but I don't want to have to run a pixel repair for 30 minutes on my screen everyday to deal with all the random ones that are popping up. It's not so noticeable on darker images and screen sets - but still an issue. Sadly I can't get this thing replaced, Amazon says out of stock so I'm taking my refund only option. Better luck to everyone else with this product, usually Samsung makes a great one. |
