Excellent Monitor for an Excellent Price,
By
This review is from: Samsung P2770H 27-Inch Widescreen Touch of Color LCD Monitor - Rose Black (Electronics)
Just thought I'd throw in my two cents about this monitor. This is an excellent choice for the price. I bought mine from Costco (I wonder if Amazon will block my post for this... well we will find out.)PROS: -Super sharp display (everything I'd expect from Samsung) at 1920 x 1080 resolution. -Fast response time at 2ms -Bright, clear display (as one user stated... too bright at factory settings) -Colors are amazing and black is black (again, expected nothing less from Samsung) -Turns on and adjusts to appropriate video signal very quickly (I upgraded from a 21" ViewSonic and this was an issue) -Supplied adapters support DVI to DVI and VGA to DVI, the monitor does not come with an HDMI to HDMI cable but it does have an HDMI input. -Beautiful display, looks really sharp on my desk, and nice and thin. CONS: -Others have mentioned difficulties with the touch controls for on/off and menu features. Yes, at first they are difficult to master, but you wont spend much time with the menu once you've got your brightness and contrast set, and as long as you touch the power spot where the graphic is instead of where you think the light is, you won't have an issue here either. -No height adjustment. There is tilt and swivel adjustment, though. -No ability to mount on a wall. The standard 10x10 wall mount is absent on this monitor. -Others have mentioned no speakers, it's only a monitor, folks. Besides, I have never been impressed with internal speaker quality on a PC monitor. -Others have mentioned no remote. True, but again, it's only a display, no TV tuner, no speakers. If you hook it up to say a Blue Ray DVD player via HDMI, they have thoughtfully included both a digital fiber optic and analog stereo mini out so you could route sound to an external source. -Overall, I'm super impressed with this monitor. It is a vast improvement over the ViewSonic 21" 1400x1050 monitor it replaced. For $300, plus a $16 hazardous waste disposal fee, plus tax, it's a bargain for a monitor of this quality. Highly recommended.

Love this monitor! Construction is solid; the finish is beautiful and - most important - the images are excellent for all types of use.The Samsung's default screen resolution is 1920 x 1080. I strongly recommend using that setting. Installed in minutes. I am using Windows XP and needed to update the driver. Grabbed it from the Samsung Support Site (rather than using the disk included in the package). I also adjusted the Brightness setting down to 50; the factory default was about 95 - way too bright. There are less expensive 27" monitors. In my opinion, in this product category you get what you pay for. I recommend this as very good product for a reasonable price.

Ordered one the first time, and it didn't function properly. When the desk was bumped or the monitor touched the lights would go off on the monitor and the screen black. The menu touch sensitive buttons didn't work. So I did research, found this was a common problem with these monitors. Some returned back to Amazon and others back to Samsung since they have a great warranty.Samsung customer service and warranty are some of the best in the business, but I simply returned to amazon, who gave me a full refund. I reordered and got a new one, and it worked perfectly. The size:price ratio is outstanding! Quality is samsung quality, the best. The touch sensitive menu buttons work flawlessly with settings to have them fade off or always be on. It detects inputs from different devices nicely, if it doesn't then send it back and get a new one since the first one I bought did something similar. Overall you will get a working one whether Samsung or Amazon send a replacement, and that makes this a 5 star automatic, hands down purchase! I compared quality to Hans G 28", since I have purchased both for customers, and this monitor blows Hans G out of the water in brightness, contrast, picture quality, and manufacturing quality, not to mention the aesthetics!

I recently bought this LCD monitor as an upgrade from the Samsung Syncmaster 2494HM. I was using the 2494HM as a monitor for my Macbook and for my PS3. The 2494HM was a great monitor but my PS3 games seemed a bit blurry. Plus without a remote, it was a pain to switch inputs since the lettering on the display is so dark that I could not select the settings without always using a flashlight. Therefore, I paid the extra money and bought this P2770HD. The extra three inches make a big difference and the image is amazing! The Macbook resolution stays at 1900x1080 but now my PS3's image is crystal clear! Games are much more vibrant and it great to have a nice remote and the on-screen display is 100x better that the other model. The only downside is that the monitor does not have a height adjustment. You can't beat the price and while Apple makes a 24 LED that costs much more and Apple will come out with a 27inch version soon, this monitor has amazing picture quality for the price.

Overall, a very nice and attractive monitor. Works fine as my 'extended' monitor. Only reason I didn't give it a 5 star was that the On/Off switch is not really a switch per sey... instead it is a place on the lower right of the face that all you are supposed to do is 'Touch' to turn on or off. Mine rarely works as it is supposed to. So I just leave it on all the time and just shut the lid on my laptop to remove any image to the screen. Otherwise I might spend 5 minutes trying to "Touch" the right spot with the right amount of tensil pressure to get it to turn on... or not. Can be frustrating. Like I said though... all other features are very nice. Just wish it had a old fashion on/off switch.

Loved set based on price and features after I figured out how to adjust set when used with with HDMI hook up to expand screen so no one inch borders. After about 6 weeks it started turning itself off at random. Took at while at Samsung website to find number for support. Called support and they at first said it must be my video card since it worked OK without being plugged into video card. I explained it still shut itself off when not plugged into video card. She dug deeper and found that there's a problem with backlighting on some sets that can cause it to shut itself off. She said I would have to send set in for warranty service with Samsung paying shipping. I wasn't happy when I shipped it Tuesday night but I got it back Friday afternoon! Wow, quick service. And the website kept me advised as to the status, including the receipt of it by the warranty center and the return shipping info.So my rating is rather confusing. I would give it 5 star but for the backlighting defect. With it I just give it 3 stars. But the quick repair and return (3 days!) won back a star.

Pros:- Looks awesome. Compliments my other Samsung gear nicely. - Bright, clear image. - Excellent for gaming, watching TV/DVD/Blu-ray - DVI and HDMI. Can cycle through inputs allowing for, as I do, PC on HDMI and MacBook Pro on DVI. - Very well packed in the box. Ensures that it will be unscathed during transport. - Although I didn't need it, the zero dead/bright pixel policy of Samsung is really comforting. Cons: - No ability to tilt up/down which is annoying if you are tall like I am and sit up fairly high. Means, if you look closely, the colour in the bottom half of the screen is slightly paler, due to viewing angle differences. This could be remedied with a slightly higher desk, or something to elevate the screen, so isn't really a major issue. - Screen wobbles very easily due to the way it attaches to the base. - Due to the design, if you wanted to have more than one of these panels running, they won't sit flush together. The border is quite large (~3cm) and tapers to a clear edge (~1cm) Final Thoughts: Resolution is only 1920x1080. Although this is full HD, considering this is a 27" panel, and I use this primarily for PC (Gaming) & Mac (Work) not as a home theatre, it would be nice if the native resolution was a little higher (e.g. 2560 x 1440). This is especially apparent if you come from a newish Apple iMac or Cinema Display. But, that said, I am not complaining. Overall the screen is amazing for the price and if you're after a new panel, and can't just justify forking out for an Apple Cinema Display, this is the one.

I'm upgrading from a 24" HP monitor with I really liked, but got tired of waiting for HP to release their new 27" display. I resolution on this is really really good. I like the non-glare screen .. Set up on my new HP computer was very easy. I'm a photographer, and can really use the extra screen space the 27" display gives. This thing also looks really cool on my desk. I like the LED on/off switch. Just swipe your finger over the lower right hand corner of the frame and it switched on, then the lights go off and become invisible. I've always been partial to HP products, but couldn't bee happier with this one.

Won't go to sleep using HDMI cable,
This review is from: Samsung P2770H 27-Inch Widescreen Touch of Color LCD Monitor - Rose Black (Electronics)
I get much better pictures, especially text connecting to HDMI as compared to DVI but I cannot use the HDMI connection because it won't go to sleep. This appears to be a known issue among some of LCD monitors, including Samsung. If you cannot achieve the sleep mode, it is not being energy efficient, so they should as well take off the energy star sticker or take out the HDMI connection.I like the picture quality and its built quality but the fact that I have to turn off the monitor every time I stay away from my PC makes me rather annoyed. I could give 4 stars for good quality screen but this sleeping problem is just too critical to overlook.

I've been using Dell 24" UltraSharp for years now, and that was pretty much my gold standard of external monitors.I wasn't looking to pay $500+ for a 27" UltraSharp, and didn't really need the fancy features such as extra USB ports, etc. I begin looking at this model as well as HP and others. Reading reviews give me the impression that the nick-pickers will have to be professionals at dealing with colors, picture editing, video editing, etc. It certainly didn't give me great feeling after seeing a massive dump of refurbished units on auction and other online second hand retailers. But the refurbished price was cheap enough to take a chance, and the monitor is good enough for me for my everyday work with office applications (especially text, spreadsheets, and slides). I have a Thinkpad W510 that is 1920 x 1080 but yet it's only 15.6" (wide screen). So the biggest worry is seeing the same resolution, but almost 12 inches bigger diagonally. Seeing the screen first time confirmed my fear, as text appeared a bit sparse. There are various adjustments but the sparse pixels can be seen for fonts. I was using the included cable for VGA to DVI. One reviewer indicated HDMI look better for computer screen (but with no standby mode). I tried it and lo and behold, all text have heavier lines (e.g., bold'ish) and smooth. First that was pleasing, but after a while I became less fond of "heavy" strokes and also realizing that's probably just hardware anti-aliasing. In Windows 7 there is font adjustment feature called "ClearType." I went back to VGA-to-DVI cable, and adjusted this Samsung 27" in ClearType (but not my Thinkpad screen). Some font style choices are definitely smoother, and yet look sharp. So now I'm looking at sharp, but yet smooth (not pixelated) and not "over-rendered" text as it appears with HDMI connection. So my concern for seeing sparse pixels on this 27" monitor is not a concern after all! This is a simple monitor (no fancy features such as USB or SD card slot reader), with pretty casing, and bright/sharp screen for every day work. Oh yes, the video playback is not bad: slightly grainy for 1080p HD media files if you are just a foot away, but sharp/clear when you step back more from 3 feet away. |
