Obsolete Motherboard back alive!,
This review is from: Samsung PC800-45 ECC 1GB (2 X 512MB) RAMBUS RDRAM RIMM (Personal Computers)
A friend of mine gave me an very old MSI motherboard, which equipped with Intel the first generation Pentium 4 socket 423 M/B with Rambus DRAM. He said this computer is basically for his son playing Windows XP games. The motherboard only has 512 MB pair RDRAM which is less useful for recent Windows application let along the latest version of Windows 7. First thing I would think to make a boost to this old M/B is to add more main memory. I first checked all local computer repair shops, NCIX, Best Buy and Future shop, they all answered me I have to special order those RDRAM because those are not available on the market anymore, However the price for that is very unbelievable expensive! The price range is around 278 to 300 CAD just for a pair of 1GB RDRAM. Of course, I wouldn't go for that kind of price just for someone's "trash" computer. ThenI turned to Amazon online. I find sometimes Amazon online is indeed an amazing place to find the stuff like RDRAM. I checked around then find this supplier can ship internationally with reasonable prices. I ordered a pair of 1GB RDRAM exactly same as that old computer onboard 512MB RDRAM rating even the manufacture is the same as that old one except the manufacture date is newer. After 3 weeks, I got my package from arch memory supplier and installed the pair of 1GB RDRAM right away on to my old computer. It works perfectly! I was like "stunned" and shocked about this. I just made someone's trash to become a "new" computer with 1.5GB main memory. Next thing I would do is to upgrade the old AGP video card if I am lucky enough to find one. Many thanks to Arch memory supplier to make someone's "trash" computer back on alive again!
