I did an enormous amoutn of research for the best overall MP3 player out there and this was by far my top pick. The size and shape are ideal for anyone looking for a workout companion, and the arm-band addition shows that Yepp trully did their research on the best way to make a portable system more portable. The volume is loud enough for me, and I need my music loud, and the extra bass feature is easy to turn on and off and has some kick. Also, even though the unit is tiny, it still offers a very easy to read display.
The only two downsides are the software that comes with the product and the earbuds. I grabbed Yepp Explorer off their website, which is vastly superior to the Audio Manager that is included. Most ear buds that accompany units are inferior to one's that you can buy in a store.

If recommended the unit to many friends, and haven't heard anything from praise from them either.

I couldn't ask for better! I travel A LOT on business and wanted an MP3 player that was small, but still offered capacity for workouts on the road. 128MB will buy you about 1 1/2- 2 hours of music (One AAA battery gives me about 4-5 hours of listening time). Great for workouts, but small enough to fit in your laptop case, toilet kit, etc. No hassles with it at airport security, which is a plus for me. The computer/player interface is easy to use and quick. I can freshen up the tunes whenever I get home in less than 10 minutes. I agree with others who recommend downloading the YEPP Explorer software from the SamSung website...it's more user friendly than that supplied with the installation CD. A highly recommended buy. Plus...it looks cool too!! Only problem is the supplied armband is a little tight for anyone who has other than "Stick-Man" arms - but a little readjustment will keep the blood flowing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pocket Rocket of a player, August 13, 2002

This unit is technically the YP-30SH - not sure how they dropped the S in the listing. It's tiny, size of a Zippo lighter, sounds great, has a goodly amount of RAM, and the best controls and display on any player anywhere near this size range. If you record at around 80Kbps using LAME ABR mixed mode with a 32KHz resample, you can fit nearly 3 hours of better-than-FM music (NOT CD quality at that rate) onto it.

As micro-portables go, it's far and away the best out there. The only downsides are that the memory isn't expandable and the earbuds aren't so great. But the earbuds on most portables are poor and the size more than makes up for the lack of expandability.

I go jogging often, so I wanted a portable that was small and wouldn't annoy me by bouncing on my leg as I run. This MP3 player fits the bill. Like other reviewers, I found the armband too small, but the included clear clip-on hides easily on my short's waistband. Battery life is alright, I get between 7-10 hours per AAA battery, but I think it beats having a rechargeable battery that ends up dying on you eventually. I didn't find the software that difficult to use, but you can always download other software from samsung or use another program that you are familiar with. Overall, this is a durable little MP3 player that is sure to be a hit with people on the go.

4.0 out of 5 stars Yepp 30SH, December 10, 2002

This review is from: Samsung Pendant Yepp 128 MB MP3 Player (Electronics)
This is a great MP3 player. The unit itself is small and easy to operate. I like the display screen that gives you all the information you need to find and play a song. The sound quality is great if you buy an aftermarket headset sense the ones that come with it are weak. The software is simple to install and once you get familiar with it you can load and delete files very easily. The player comes with a clear plastic belt clip, a necklace attachment, and a armband though the armband should be called a writband sense a average size man will not be able to wear it because it is so tight. Overall a very good product for a good price.

5.0 out of 5 stars It doesn't skip!, October 6, 2003
By
This review is from: Samsung Pendant Yepp 128 MB MP3 Player (Electronics)
I just finished reading about how many runners who bought iPods have been returning them because they skip/lockup/crash when running (not jogging). I previously owned a Sharp MD player, and sold it because of skipping. I figure that ANY mechanical player will skip, regardless of read-ahead RAM buffers, because the vibration of running will eventually overcome the device's ability to play reliably.

Bottom line: runners HAVE to go solid state.

The Yepp solid state MP3 players are solid, loud, high-fidelity devices with nice screens and decent (2 hr+) storage capability and it comes with a nice adjustable arm band and clip to secure it. I've had mine over a year now and it is still working great (unlike the Nike Sport player).

I would look at the new Creative MuVo2 X-trainer as well (512MB would hold 8 hours of music!) but the Yepp 128MB player is a great "piece o' kit."

The only downside is that the player has its own tunes management software and does not integrate directly with Real Player, MusicMatch JukeBox, or Microsoft Media Player. Drive letter access would be nice. (The new Yepps, eg., yp-55v DO support DLA I think.)

5.0 out of 5 stars Light, small and easy to use., April 7, 2003

This item is great for those who want something small for the gym or working out. It holds enough music for a full workout and it is small and light enough to not interfere with whatever you are doing. You might want to purchase different headphones because the cord is short and the earbuds have a tendency to fall out. So buy earbuds that have a longer cable and hooks to wrap around the ears.

This is one of the smallest and lightest mp3 players you can find with 128MB. Fits in your pocket or use the holster that comes with it. The software works on both Mac (not OSx) and PC. The built-in EQ settings (rock, jazz, classical, etc.) are ok. It also comes with a voice recorder, although i've never used it. I've had it for over a year and haven't had any problems with it even considering I've dropped it many times.

3.0 out of 5 stars Let the buyer beware, October 31, 2003
This review is from: Samsung Pendant Yepp 128 MB MP3 Player (Electronics)
I bought this model 'cause I wanted a pendant.
(Mine is a YP-N30H, which looks identical to several other models).
However, there is limited functionality with the software on this product - it needs improving.
For example you cannot arrange the order of the songs.
You can't copy anything across from the player onto a PC because of the security key.
So forget about uploading a fav. song for a friend.
A shame since mp3 is designed to be portable. There are other annoying (small) bugs.
For some reason the playlist on the player doesn't always start at the first song
(it always starts at the last track that was playing, which I like).
After loading new songs, turning it off and unplugging from the PC, it starts automatically,
you have to wait the several seconds for the operating system to load, then turn it off again.
Sound quality : Good Enough
Looks: Good
Earphones: Good enough
Functionality: It works but it doesn't thrill
Software: Fair

Postscipt: To their credit, Samsung (Hong Kong - I bought this player duty free in HK) have responded with the following:
Hi Richard,
After discuss to our MP3 Engineers, here are solution and for your reference.
1. Sorting Problem.
sol: Numerical sorting function in our MP3 player.
When you create a file name, pls add a index for this
file. (example: "My Song" modify it into "01.My Song" )
After adding it, the MP3 player will sorting this index automatically.
2. Song can't upload.
sol: Samsung works with the music industries to prevent
uploading of music to any form of storage devices in order to
protect copyrighted material. In assuming all customers have
the original music tracks, our company aims is to encourage
our customers to respect copyrighted music.
3. Normal playback function
sol: The feature of MP3 player is not similar to another
portable device (such as Discman, MD Player). MP3 player need
a start index signal to operate real time decoding data when you playback MP3 song. So there are not many MP3 players have
Normal Mode playback even other brand (for example: Sony,
JNC, etc).
4. Machine restart
sol: Maybe you think this function is quite annoying. But
anyhow this software implement can improve the stability of
data storing. This action will refresh the flash memory once
again to improve consistency of MP3 data to prevent mistake occur.
Pls feel free to contact our service hotline if you need further assistance

5.0 out of 5 stars This rocks!, December 2, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Samsung Pendant Yepp 128 MB MP3 Player (Electronics)
So small that for the first time I felt surrounded by sound, not wires. Perfect for running and workouts. The sound quality is fantastic, and 128 MB is over an hour of music - more than enough for my workout. The weak point is the software which goes to extremes to be counter-intuitive - but since you can download free software off the Samsung site which gets around this, no worries.
