5.0 out of 5 stars Sturdy little lifesaver
This little lifesaver replaced the standard type of cell phone I had used for years. At age 85 I switched to this prepaid phone because a neurological disease keeps me close to home, where I have a land-line phone. I no longer drive a car, but I enjoy traveling for miles on sidewalks in a 4-wheel battery-powered scooter--a miniature version of the red convertible prized...

1.0 out of 5 stars I got a bad one
After reading some of those very positive reviews, I ordered one. This phone has been activated since Oct 8,2009. Here is what happens now. The battery runs out fast within a day without using it. When I tried to turned off the phone, I found another problem. The phone turns on itself automatically. So when I turns the phone off, it turns on itself automatically...

This review is from: Samsung a137 Prepaid GoPhone (AT&T) with $15 Airtime Credit (Wireless Phone Accessory)
This little lifesaver replaced the standard type of cell phone I had used for years. At age 85 I switched to this prepaid phone because a neurological disease keeps me close to home, where I have a land-line phone. I no longer drive a car, but I enjoy traveling for miles on sidewalks in a 4-wheel battery-powered scooter--a miniature version of the red convertible prized by men of a certain age. I bought the Samsung Prepaid GoPhone to take with me on scooter rides in case of an emergency, and to take along whenever I leave home for appointments or shopping. I'm pleased with it, even though I have not figured out how to claim the $15 airtime credit. It is sturdy, compact and eminently portable.

After reading some of those very positive reviews, I ordered one. This phone has been activated since Oct 8,2009. Here is what happens now. The battery runs out fast within a day without using it. When I tried to turned off the phone, I found another problem. The phone turns on itself automatically. So when I turns the phone off, it turns on itself automatically. Sometimes it turns off for a few minutes then it turns on itself. Another issue I found is the backlight doesn't work properly. I set mine to 10 sec. It had worked as it should be for about the first 30 days. Right now it is unpredictable. It comes on and off whenever it wants to. I put the phone face down at night so it will not wake me up when it happens to come on by itself. This phone is very new and I still don't use it very often. I called T-mobile. it took about an hour or a bit more. T-mobile will not take care of the battery issue. I will have to send only the phone back to repair and I pay for the shipping.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent for infrequent user and Even More Plus Plan, November 20, 2009
I don't text or use my phone to browse the web. I only use it when I'm out for possible emergency and when meeting up with someone and need to communicate where I am. The phone works perfectly and just so happened that several days before I signed up, T-mobile introduced a new phone plan that falls somewhere between pre-paid and contract called Even More Plus 500. It gives way more minutes than pre-paid and is flexible month to month- I can switch to pre-paid (10.00 a month) if I need to for when my budget is tight. The Web2go was excruciatingly slow and not worth the extra 10.00 a month. That's the only drawback, but I have my laptop at home, so I dont miss it. This is a great deal and excellent quality compared to the other pre-paid phones offered by other carriers. The clerk that signed me up at t-mobile was surprised I only paid 79 on Amazon instead of the 130 in store price.
