Then I go to anyone else's monitor and those same images appear too bright and washed out.

Then, I watched a movie on my Samsung monitor, and the dark scenes were nearly unwatchable.

I have a Macbook Air which I carry home at the end of the day. At work I use a Thunderbolt-DVI dongle ($10) to connect to a DVI cord to feed into this monitor. I use a USB hub to connect the various devices to the MBA. (keyboard, mouse, backup drive, etc.) This works very well, and I am VERY happy with the quality of the monitor. Sure, if I had an extra $1k I would go for the Thunderbolt display. But, this monitor is a bargain and just works! If you are setting up a photo editing studio you will have very particular requirements, and this may or may not be right for you. But, if you want a monitor for the office (Word, email, internet stuff) I think you will be very happy with this. The display is bright, good contrast for office work, and crisp text. My MBA (Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB VRAM) has no problem supporting the full screen and the 1920x1080 resolution @ 60 Hz.

I have two new HP Computers. The one in our kitchen has a great HP monitor, where the mid tones are very clearly seen. However, for my basement office, I bought the Samsung SyncMaster S24B240BL monitor. It's OK on normal web pages, but one of the first things I noticed was that when I played Chess Titans (supplied with Windows 7), the black pieces were very dark, with little mid tones, and only some highlights. The head of a pawn, being in front of the base of another piece, seemed to blend in with the other piece. On the kitchen computer, it looks just fine. Then, I watched a movie on my Samsung monitor, and the dark scenes were nearly unwatchable. It's like a sea of black with only the highlights poking through. No amount of adjusting the controls helps. And I know how to adjust monitors well. I bought it at Staples, and I may see if I can get a refund. I'm very disappointed.

I needed a 24" for my work, and this has been an excellent choice. The box it comes in says "Business Monitor", and this is what it is. I will not use it for gaming or movies. The colors are good as I log into my business' website daily and the colors on the homepage are clear and crisp. I am pleased with this monitor. And at $139.99 it's a very good deal.
