4.0 out of 5 stars A great value.
This camcorder is a bridge to the next generation (digital). I was looking for a digital (MiniDV) format camcorder, but at the moment, there are a couple of disadvantages to them. One is the relatively high cost, the other is rather poor low or moderate light performance. Since much of my shooting occurs indoors, this was simply unacceptable. I'll wait a year or two...

1.0 out of 5 stars Tape eater
When I first bought this cam it constantly ate the tape it came with. I brought it back to the store and they replaced the cam. Now 6 months later I have the same problem and the store tells me that my 3 month waranty is over. I explained them that the cam has the same problem as the first, but the answer remained,"your 3 months are over!!".

I'll wait a year or two for things to get better with the Digital camcorders, but in the meantime, this SCL770 is a great bridge between the two formats. You get the relatively low price, and good low light performance of a Hi8 camera, plus you can use its USB connection to download a decent image (moving or still). You can even use it as a webcam! This should suit many of us just fine who are waiting for the digital camcorders to really mature, in capabilities and in price.

The only real negative I have come across at this time is the relatively short life span of the included battery. If you plan on using the LCD alot and shooting alot of footage between charges, I would suggest buying and upgraded battery.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Camera for the money, September 8, 2002

I just have it for a week and I'm amazed with the features. So easy to operate! Great LCD display, full remote control, Snap Shot for Digital Pictures, just GREAT!!! The software for USB connectivity with a PC is a little hard to configure but Thech Support it's great and I got it figure in just minutes. You can transfer your out-of-the-oven videos or photos to your PC and Edit them for fun. With Digital Effect, Title, Fade, you can enhance your takes. Great battery life up to 1.5 hour on a slim one (almost an hour w/ LCD).
Go for it, nothing worth than this one for beginners... or a tight budget!

5.0 out of 5 stars A BIG HANDFULL OF VALUE FOR A REASONABLE PRICE., August 7, 2002

This review is from: Samsung SCL770 Hi8 Camcorder with 2.5" LCD and USB Interface (Electronics)
I PURCHASED MY 770 A MONTH AGO. IN THAT TIME I HAVE LOOKED, HANDLED,PLAYED WITH AND ENJOYED. BEING IN WHEELCHAIR WITH RA. I CAN APPRECIATE THE COMPACT SIZE OF THE 770. I CAN HANDLE AND USE
WITH A GREAT DEAL OF CONFIDENCE. HAVING SO MANY FINE FEATURES IT WOULD BE HARD TO SAY WHICH IS THE BEST OF THEM. THE ABILITY TO USE WITH MY P.C. IS ONE OF THE TOP FEATURES I ENJOY. TRANSFERRING
THE IMAGES TO P.C. TAKES A LITTLE READING TO BE ABLE TO ACCOMPLISH.WELL WORTH THE EFFORT.
THIS IS NO PROBLEM AS IT IS JUST "WORKING OUT THE KINKS" FOR HOW TO DO IT.MANY FEATURES IN THE USE OF IT ARE EASY TO LEARN AND FUN TO USE. FOR THE PRICE, FEATURES, AND EASE OF USE MAKE THE SAMSUNG SCL-770 A TRUE WINNER.

This was a great deal what a cute little camera. You can upload movies onto your computer, view your movies via the television and also record movies onto a blank VHS tape! Why spend the big bucks on a digital?
