I ordered and got the samsung blu-ray player and i tested it and it works well with my i5 Mac mini running Mac OS X 10.8.2. I only needed to play in one usb plug.

The drive door problem- you got to close the door and hold it a several seconds for the drive to register that the door is closed.

and NO! You DON'T need to buy Macgo Blu-ray Player for $39. JUST USE VLC PLAYER 2.04 and download 2 files to get your VLC 2.0 to play encrypted blu-ray discs.

You'll need two files: keys database and AACS dynamic library.

you get these 2 files from:
[...]

and followed their instructions on the site where to place the 2 files and blu-ray will work.

Thank you to the Mac developers of the VLC project, their website:

[...]

I am now watching The Avengers on Blu-Ray on my intel Mac.

VLC Player 2.04 is opensource freeware and you can donate to the project if you like.

here's how you play blu-ray discs on vlc:
1. launch VLC
2. Click File on Menu and select open Disc
3. click open BDMV folder and select the directory in the blu-ray with the BDMV file
4. click open
5. blu-ray movie should be playing at this point.
6. press cmd f for full screen
7. enjoy!

I Believe "D Cole" had the best review before I bought. I usually don't write reviews, but Amazon is persistent so here goes. I read the reviews and still didn't know if this would work on my Mac mini. Bought it and have been happy with my choice. Indeed plug and play out of the box for reading DVD's, CD's, data discs etc. You can burn CD's and DVD's right out of the box. You do need to purchase a Mac compatible BluRay player if you're on Mac and want to watch a BluRay movie. If you're on Windows, then your software is included in the packaging. I bought "Aurora" for $40 US (with a small foreign exchange fee as they are based in the UK). I'm using this device on a 2010 MAC mini. No problems yet. It has been a little over a month.
Sorry hackers, VLC just won't cut it, you really have to spend the money.
That's it. I recommend the product. It works. I don't really understand the complaints. It works as advertised... NR.

I just got this unit, plugged it in and started burning archives, 25GB at a time. No driver or software installation on my Mac - works native in the OS from the desktop just like burning a CD or DVD (OS 10.6.8). I believe there are also 50GB discs available but they cost more. Bottom line: works great. Easy, simple and perfect in my opinion. No more worrying about all my precious data.

I highly recommend the Samsung SE-506AB Blu-Ray burner. It is compact, and works great.

I use it with a 5 year old Dell Latitude laptop with a 2.3Ghz processor and 2 GB of RAM. I use Windows XP Home on that computer.

One thing to be aware of -- the Blu-Ray drive requires TWO USB ports to operate. You will either need two open USB ports next to, or on top of, each other, or you will need to buy a USB extension cable to help the drive's cables reach your 2nd USB port. I only plug this Blu-Ray drive in when I need to burn a disc. So, when I am not burning anything, I disconnect it and keep it in a drawer....that way, it does not use up my available USB ports for everyday use.

So far, I have only tested this drive with BD-R discs (I use Verbatim 6x BD-R discs). It works perfectly with those discs.

Highly recommended if you need or want an external Blu-Ray writer.

I was hesitant to purchase after reading negative reviews, mostly Mac compatibility and the "won't stay shut" complaint. I'll admit I already had Toast HD plugin on my MacBook Pro (3 years old), but this thing has run flawlessly. I had to clear a lot of HDDs of AV files and needed to go to Blu-Ray for its capacity. I'm burning through a spindle of Verbatim LTH BD-R's and will need more. The only screwup was mine, and that only cost me 1 blank at $1.20 anyway. I also make a practice of using the speed one step below maximum, which I have done since my first CD burner in the previous millennium. I'm truly happy with this and have had it running hard since it came out of the box. In fact, I thought I'd need a powered USB hub, but have been running it on only the single main USB connection exclusively. You do have to learn how to deftly shut the 'cupholder', but it's really not too difficult. It's smart to support underneath as you place a disc in the tray, as well. How simple is that?

So all I have to say is that this is an exceptional value and it is, in fact, burning as I type this.

In an aside: If you need to break up files in excess of 100GB to 23.31GB for archiving- USE RAR. Makes a nice clean envelope for the file's future concating and does it in one step.

EDIT:

So I just hooked it up to a 9 year old Mac twin G5 tower running OS X 10.4 (with toast 9 HD plugin) and held my breath- Burning and verifying without a hitch on old computer with only main USB connection in. I'm even more pleased than before.

This little powerhouse does it all ,it reads , burns and plays any CD, DVD AND BlueRay
out there.
There is nothing this item does not do, even the small DVD-RAM discs.
The Black Friday Price of 99.99 was a steal and the delivery fast and furious.
I was hoping not to disappoint my son , by not getting it on time as an X-mas
gift since the delivery window would have allowed 4 it.
Came it 5 days.Sturdy and needs no power adapter.Five Stars for this General
