Great DVD player/burner: OEM Product
Samsung makes a lot of DVD burners, and I've used quite a few of them in computer builds, but I'd never heard the term "half height" before, and so I almost didn't buy this burner because I thought it might not fit in a standard 3.5" bay. good and the bad
well when they work they are great what I mean by that, took me buying 4 and returning 2 to get 2 that works great its a hit and miss on these.

Samsung makes a lot of DVD burners, and I've used quite a few of them in computer builds, but I'd never heard the term "half height" before, and so I almost didn't buy this burner because I thought it might not fit in a standard 3.5" bay. However, the burner is normal sized and fits perfectly. It also functions perfectly, and was recognized by VISTA immediately. No driver installation necessary.
This drive ships as OEM. That means no cables, manual, software, etc. It is the drive and the drive only. If you want a retail packaged item complete with trail software or cables, make sure you select a retail product and not an OEM. However, you can easily get a free trail of Roxy, or any other DVD burning software by doing a simple web search. For the price, this is a great option for a DVD burner from a brand that's pretty reliable in the optical drive department. You could do a lot worse. Just be aware that it is OEM and plan accordingly. Make sure you have a SATA cable, and a SATA power connector to use with the drive.

Fine OEM burner from a respectable company. Please ignore the 1-star review from the person who knows nothing about OEM equipment. You wouldn't want Roxio/Sonic or Nero software anyhow. Download Ashampoo software or other free rippers/authoring programs.

Only thing to mention is that it does not look like the photo. Only "Super Write master" and "speed plus" does not sport "Samsung"

It works fine so far.
I successfully burned a dual layer DVD with it. I used CDBurnerXP, which is freeware. I tried an old version of Roxio easy media creator, but that wouldn't recognize dual layer disks on this burner.

I didnt even get to try this DVD burner yet because the dam thing didnt come with any software to even gave me a trial.
