The camera takes excellent pictures.

There was a comment in one of the questions that stated it would work int he US, but a little disclaimer is that you can get edge service (2G and 3G) but that's it.
David
Perhaps it happens to others and there is a way to fix it but my lack of video experience meant I couldn't do anything.

I've used the Samsung S4 Zoom as my number one phone, and 90% of the time when I take photos, and I've taken thousands since I bought it last year. Overall, I love it, but when the K Zoom came out, I had to see what it was like. I spent about 30 minutes playing with it at the shops and this is what I've noticed (ps: I know this isn't the same as owning it, but I feel I'm not approaching it as a total newbie- I have the S4 Zoom and they have similarlities, and I'm comparing the K Zoom to the S4 Zoom) :

- Android operating system 4.4 kitkat is very similar to the version used in the S4 Zoom. Coouple of cosmetic changes. Otherwise everything was pretty much same as for the S4 Zoom in terms of app use, phone use.

- The body feels like a dimpled curved body, which is what it is. It's fine for a smartphone, but not so much as a camera.

- Lens - same zoom range 24-240mm in 35mm format. The rotating ring on the S4 Zoom is gone. Zooming is done by using the volume up and down button, which makes sense. The touchscreen zoom and widen magnifying glasses for zooming onthe screen are gone too. No it's pinch in and out to zoom on screen. Seems inconsistent. Sometimes it will zoom or widen a lot, or not as at all.

- Camera software- Big change over the S4 Zoom, making it much more user friendly and very much more customisable. For example:
- In the Gallery, you can now move the album icons around and put them in any order you want.
- When you go to "modes", instead of having the scroll in a circular manner through lots and lots of options, like night, macro, etc, you can see them in two ways- scrool up and down along the left side, where you can see about 5 icons at a time, or, when you press the tab button top right, you can see about ..

As a huge android fan this phone meets my expectations from the OS (Kit Kat) and the general functions of a solid Samsung device. I was a little disappointed that I cannot get 4G LTE with it. There was a comment in one of the questions that stated it would work int he US, but a little disclaimer is that you can get edge service (2G and 3G) but that's it. If I could have gotten 4G LTE, this would be 5 stars.

Being an AT&T customer, the phone was at my house, I popped out my SIM and Micro SD, plugged them into the Zoom and away I went. It was that easy. (I followed up today with the AT&T store and they said - that's all there is to it; which is what I expected).

Considering I don't do a lot of heavy network traffic while out and about this hasn't been much of an issue for me (yet).

The camera is really (really) nice!
Great vivid photos.
10X optical zoom.
20 digital zoom.
Can take 20mb pictures.
That works out to some great zoom and photo capabilities.

I do take a lot of photos with my phone (former Note II) and just found that this would be a "nice to have".

The size of the device is not cumbersome. I have had people compare it weight-wise with their iphone and it's similar.

Have a couple of cases on order. I'll have to see what that does to the size/carry capabilities.

-General impressions aka the Camera
If you are buying this phone it is for one reason only, the camera. The camera on this phone is fantastic. If you want the best camera on Android this is it. Why? Not only because of the optical zoom with IS and the Xenon flash. The software is actually very good. It has everything from scene modes to full manual.and everything in between. Burst mode, control the flash whatever you want however you want. It actually is so easy to use and quick to change settings I hate going back to my Sony RX100 or GX1. The camera takes as good quality pictures as those two 90% of the time, but I have the phone with me 100% of the time so I get many, many more pictures. Some other phone cameras come with fixed aperture of F2.0 which is actually better than this camera for low light. However I this camera has a real flash so it is basically a wash.

-Customization
This phone can rooted but currently there are no custom ROMs if you care about those things. Currently has 4.4.2 and I have no clue and haven't heard if Samsung will push 5.0

-Phone use
Is this phone big and heavy yesish. I compare it to any of the Notes or iPhone plus and you have a smaller, but thicker phone. The thickness actually helps me some since it is easier to keep in my hands and doesn't slip as often. Calls are clear and crisp. the screen is nice and the phone does hold up to some moderate drops, not tested on purpose. The battery life is probably\ average, but I think that is because I use the camera a lot. I can either get through the day and have only 10% left or over 50%. It seems a lot depends on how much it is searching for the 3g signal (see below) and how many pictures I take. And the xenon flash is a battery hog.

The phone is good but the battery is very bad. The wrap paper on the new battery is loose which reminds me the battery is not original. After using for a couple of days, I find the battery only can last for one and half hours when use normally (almost only surfing internet). Almost 1% equals to 1 minute surfing internet. Now I have to take a portable external battery along with the phone. So if you want to buy this phone, you must be cautious about the problem of battery even though it is cheaper.
