This is a review of the Samsung SPF-85P.

Although this is imho by far the best looking photoframe out there and it has got very nice controls on the front of the frame and the images themselves are just brilliant, it's software is awful!

My hobby is photography so I have thousands and thousands of pictures. I resized the whole lot to the native 800x600 resolution of the frame and copied an initial 50MB or so to the 2GB SD card I bought for this occasion. It all worked flawlessly. Great! So I copied another 500MB of resized images to the SD card, these were about 20 folders. Inserted the SD card in the frame, power on, selected the SD card from the menu, started the slideshow, saw the first picture and then it just hang. Totally unresposive. Did a test and it turned out that with 2787 images on the SD card everything was still fine, but 2788 images (1 more) would have the whole thing crash.

Now I'm a software engineer myself and by this very fact I can tell that their software is just crap. Probably bugs relating to memory allocations. Things are even worse if you select the 'shuffle all pictures' setting. The bloody things just can't cope with a reasonable amount of pictures. This happened with the SD card, it happened again when I tried it with a USB stick and it happened as well when I uploaded the pictures to the frame's internal memory.

And there was a dead subpixel.

I bought the thing today and it's going back tomorrow.

Conclusion:

+Very good hardware
-Awful software

Don't buy!!!

It is a good buy. I am not a tech geek and so i cant go into the details but as a consumer when i look at the Sony DPF and the Samsung DPF, i could find no difference and so i bought the Samsung PDF which comes at a far better price.
This is a 10 inch frame. Has control on the right hand side of the frame and they light up when you touch it.
This thing also has a battery backup and a memory backup as well. So even if you have a power outage, you will have this thing working.
It has the issue that many people keep saying that this is a wide screen frame and so you will see the black stips on the side but i am can live with it.

We gave my mother a 7" digital frame loaded with pix for her apartment. We loved it and wanted a larger one for our home. After a lot of research, we chose this Samsung and love it. Even the odd circular design on the black frame can't keep me from giving it 5 stars.

It's a nice picture frame.I like that you can set it to turn on whenever you want and turn off automatically (you can even choose weekend or weekdays). The thing i do not like is that it does not rotate pictures if they are perpendicular.

The unit works great if you are using a PC. Easy to use, and really fun. When I used my apple G4 to load pictures and mp3 files, they come over to the unit along with annoying unrecognized files with a size of 80K with the same file name. For each group of pictures or mp3s you get a whole bunch of question marks on the frame file viewer. I called tech support and they had no idea what was going on. Essentially they told me that their product was not fully tested with apple products. As I use a PC as well this does not present a great problem to me, just an inconvenience. If you only use an apple, you should be aware of this difficulty.

Just purchased this Photo Frame so my wife can take her photos with her, without lugging a laptop around. Has the best picture I have seen amongst other picture frames. Love the battery feature!! Menu is not straight forward and the touch feature is a little hinky, but all in all the best picture frame on the market as of today. Great display,can be seen at about 160 degrees.
