The SyncMaster 171S is an ideal display for both home and professional applications. Its slim design, built-in power supply, and wide viewing angles permit easy placement anywhere in your office. Its full 17-inch viewing area optimizes graphics with intense color, rich contrast, and high brightness.

For applications requiring advanced imaging and high-speed interactivity, the 171S features a 0.264mm dot pixel pitch with a maximum (native) resolution of 1,280 x 1,024. Clarity and crispness are ensured, thanks to 250 cd/m2 brightness and a 350:1 contrast ratio. The wide viewing angles of 160 degrees horizontal and 120 degrees vertical provide a comfortable showing for your office visitors, without their having to sit directly in front of the monitor.

The dimensions are a compact 17.5 by 18.0 by 8.2 inches, including the stand, and the monitor weighs less than 12 pounds, so it fits comfortably and positions easily on your desk. The 171S supports Windows, Macintosh, and Sun Microsystems operating systems. It supports touch-installable as an added option. The monitor parts, labor, and backlight are all backed by a limited three-year warranty.

I work all day in front of my PC, mainly web surfing, XL and Word to write books and reports. It is especially important when I work that I can see two pages "side by side" and "read" as if using sheet paper. I am not a games player.

I noticed with my classic CRT monitor that
1/ my eyes were itching and watering
2/ I was "hunching forward" to read and getting a stiff neck
3/ I was getting frequent headaches.

The Samsung solved all these problems. I can now work all day without discomfort or itchy eyes. It is also helpful when manipulating several windows (XL and word, or word and a photo editor). Not to mention the reclaimed real estate on my desk. Pricewise, it's the best for my needs as I don't need bells and whistles.

If you are a home office worker, this is the monitor for you!

The quality is pretty good, slim design. looks no difference with 171B, the contrast rate is a bit lower for a 17 LCD but the text and figure looks clear and sharp enough. The best thing is the price. At this price this one is really a good deal.

If desk space is at a premium, this is a great choice. I had no problems hooking it up and installing it. The picture quality is excellent, so long as you run it at maximum resolution. The crispness of text actually exceeded my expectations. LCD's certainly have drawbacks (costliness included), but if you're in the market for a 17" model, I haven't seen a better monitor at this price.
