4.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Monitor with 1 small draw back
My girlfriend and I bought 2 of these monitors with our new computer purchase back in May. Here we are 3 months later and I'm still L O V I N G them! I have 2 of them to run on dual display mode and can't stand looking at anything else. The colors are crisp, the viewing angle is just awesome, and I can't say enough great things about owning these displays. The only minor...

2.0 out of 5 stars Great monitor, but.......
I bought this monitor somewhere about 2 years ago, and up until this point, I have been very satisfied with it. However, 2 months ago, I began to notice some ghosting, and it is progressively getting worse. dark horizontal lines extend about 2-3 inches to the right, and to the right of each letter I type, I can see a faint copy of the letter. Will need to replace this...

The only minor draw back is the stands that come with them. I opted to purchase a monitor stand and tried to remove the sections that click into the lcd itself. Well, I've been tugging, wiggling, and fighting with this small peice of plastic for 3 or 4 days to no avail! I tried finding how to remove stand in the instructions and came up with nothing. I logged onto samsung.com and chatted with a Tech who had no idea how to help me. So I'm stuck with the monitors free floating in air having part of the base still attached.

With all of that aside, the rest of the monitor receives a definite 5 stars, hands down. It's only the base that shortens the rating to 4 stars.

I was looking for a second monitor to pair with my 24" Dell. I tried the newest model of Dell and was horrendously surprised by all the problems with a basic picture, mis-colors, bleeding, bad angle, etc....

Which led me to good reviews of the last model of this Samsung 20". All I can say is with the DVI input it's very close to the 24" Dell quality. Very clear, color is great out of the box, angles are good. If you are buying this and going to use the VGA connection only, please just buy the cheapest monitor you can find, as the quality is average at best. With DVI, it's the best out there.

This is a phenomenal monitor, THUMBS WAY UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great!, August 7, 2008

I got this as part of my payment for a gig I did for one of my clients. I was just going to sell it when I was done with the job, but decided to keep it instead. I was a little annoyed that I couldn't get the stand off the thing so I could mount it on a desk mounted lcd arm, but after a call to the manufacture, it was cleared up. Apparently, all you have to do is just apply force and pul really hard to pull the small stem portion of the stand out. Im a photographer, and I wouldn't do much color correcting with this screen, but in a pinch it would do with a color correction device like a monaco optix. Ive played cod4 (xbox 360) through vga and it was pretty good. No trailing.

4.0 out of 5 stars STAND VERY HARD TO REMOVE, February 6, 2011

SAMSUNG 953BW - STAND REMOVAL

Read the last part of this post before you begin - it might be much easier than is described here, but I did not try it. Did it the hard way.

Here you will find how to take apart the base.

[...]

Here is how to take off the metal post that remains after removing the two plastic halves that cover it - when assembled, they make the vertical piece of the stand.

If you look at the bottom of the monitor frame, you will see that the metal post is attached to a metal plate, and that this plate is attached to another metal plate that is fixed to the monitor. Nevertheless, you will notice that the post can move a little with respect to the monitor.

As you will see in the picture of the rear of the monitor, in the link above: The post is held to the monitor by means of two rails, which hold the side edges of the metal plate attached to the post. And you will also see that there is a small rectangular hole in the plate, in which a retaining tab must go in to keep it from coming off.

I used the large blade of a regular swiss army knife and stuck it in between the two metal plates, in the center part of the space between them, and noticed that it would come to a stop a about the edge of the rectangular hole - it must have been hitting the retaining tab.
Then I hit the knife a couple of times with the heel of my hand, to see if it would go in any further, and: Bingo! It did.
Drove it almost all the way in, and then pulled on the post and it slid out. That's it !

LATER NOTICED: You don't even have to disassemble the vertical piece of the stand.
Just bend the monitor back as far as it would go, then remove the large piece of the base, and there you will see the edges of the two metal plates mentioned in the preceding paragraph where you have to introduce the blade

I am very satisfied with this monitor.

The only thing I don't like about the piece I got is a bright spot in upper left side of the screen. I cannot do much about this because Samsung only replaces or repairs monitor if there are more than 5-10 bad or bright pixels.
