5.0 out of 5 stars Great Monitor... very easy to setup and use, with one exception.
First of all, great customer service from amazon.com. Ordered the unit on June 4, received it on June 6!

3.0 out of 5 stars Great picture, but...
Nice clear, sharp picture. I have my brightness set at 35%, and it'll work even in the brightest daylight room.

I don't like the single support point, though. When you're pounding away on your keyboard, the monitor tends to rock back and forth. I had to stick a wedge of business cards under one corner to make it stop.

First of all, great customer service from amazon.com. Ordered the unit on June 4, received it on June 6!

Pros: Easy setup and hookup. Be sure to use the DVI-I cable hookups. That's because digital input is so much better than analog. Plus, you don't mess with the buttons on the bottom right corner, except for the ON/OFF button on the far right. All your settings are configured through the video card's software interface. Download the newest driver from the Samsung website, install, and you ready to go.

Cons: DO NOT INSTALL MagicColor! It's a waste of time and conflicts with Nvidia Control Panel which causes computer lockup in some instances. (At least it did with me.) You have virtually the same settings in the Nvidia Control Panel interface. plus the panel seems a little more intuitive.

The previous reviewer did an analog setup, when every video card on the market today comes with a DVI output jack, plus just about every LCD monitor has an input jack. It just doesn't make any sense to go analog. Plus Samsung includes both cables! DVI is the only way to Fly!

Additonal Notes: Nice finsh with the piano glossy black color. The base is somewhat adjustable, but a little wobbly. I ordered the Ergotron Neo-Flex LCD desk stand to go with this monitor's VESA mount. A lot more adjustabiliity including height, much heavier weight, and it is able to rotate the entire monitor for text work.

All in all, a good spend of my money and the free shipping is always a bonus. I chose Amazon over Newegg also, since I would get free shipping on all the products I bought.

I got this monitor to replace my 19" LCD gaming monitor and I love it. Beautiful and bright - no ghosting with 5 ms response time (2 ms with their acceleration tweaks). Its a great value for the price and the only minor issue is some backlight bleed in the top and bottom of screen.

5.0 out of 5 stars [...]- Samsung LCD from gamer's POV, August 14, 2008
This review is from: Samsung SyncMaster 2253BW 22-inch LCD Monitor (Electronics)
Pros: Extremely sharp picture, no annoying reflections from background light, absolutely no ghosting/input lag/tearing in video games (CS:S, BF2, DoD, Crysis to name a few), No dead pixels, Sexy design, 1 day shipping from Newegg :)....and I love how it has the sticker on the top right corner that says 2 MS and 8000:1 contrast ratio....thats just bragging rights!!!!!

Cons: I am 100% satisfied...the only problem I had was a short DVI cable, but who cares, I used an old one. I have previously owned a 19"" viewsonic VX-927 @3ms, a 22"" dell @ 5ms, and a 24"" acer @ 6ms. Let me just say from a gamer's point of view, that this samsung LCD puts them ALL to shame.

Other Thoughts: If you are a serious gamer, like me, and you are in the market for an LCD then DO NOT hesitate and buy this one. It is absolutely a delight to be able to see everything so sharply on the screen and to be able to make incredible shots due to your silky smooth screen. My specs: Quad core q9450 3.6 ghz, 9800gtx ssc, 4 gigs ram, vista ultimate 64.

4.0 out of 5 stars SyncMaster, July 3, 2008
This review is from: Samsung SyncMaster 2253BW 22-inch LCD Monitor (Electronics)
When I bought this I was trying to decide between a Viewsonic and this one. I wanted a basic black and the Viewsonic had too much silver on it. Although it looks like a silver bar on the bottom of the Sammy it's actually a clear plastic one, which is very nice. It's got a blue power indicator that plays off the clear plastic below.

Resolution is great, had no problem with my new PC or laptop, switching between is a little bit of work since you have to press the source button located behind the clear plastic bar on the bottom.

I purchased the flex stand since the stock one is not height adjustable, which would have been nice. Also there is no USB key support on the monitor which I find very convenient on my office Dell, which that was available here.

Overall very happy and should be for years.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Monitor, November 23, 2008

This review is from: Samsung SyncMaster 2253BW 22-inch LCD Monitor (Electronics)
I looked at monitors for nearly a year before purchasing the 2253bw and tested many models in stores. Most displays seemed difficult to read across the entire surface or had rather unnatural color rendering, including the highly rated HP hardware. I mostly just wanted clear, crisp text at small font sizes anywhere on the screen.

This unit is very impressive and delivers a beautiful display in an attractive package. I used the DVI-I cable (that was included) and the default NVidia driver software operating under Windows Vista (matched to the native screen resolution). Similarly, the included stand works fine for me and the tilt adjustment is somewhat important for the best viewing experience. In my environment I have no issue with reflected light or edge bleed, the illumination seems adequately uniform across the entire surface, and there were no stuck pixels.

My only caveat would be that the `out of the box' display settings were pretty terrible (set to way too high intensity). It was necessary to fuss with the menu for a few minutes to get the best quality for my taste. I also made a mistake by trying to read and understand the instruction book - this is one of the rare cases where it is better to put aside the documentation and the included software - a beautiful result can then be achieved very quickly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Want a good monitor?, August 13, 2008
This review is from: Samsung SyncMaster 2253BW 22-inch LCD Monitor (Electronics)
I had a Samsung SyncMaster 930B 19" LCD Monitor for my desk top Mac and wanted another monitor for my Intel MacBook so I could run Windows on a separate screen simultaneously with OS X on another. Thus I purchased the Samsung SyncMaster 2253BW 22" LCD Monitor and it is great. It works great as an extended monitor or in mirror mode. The monitor has great contrast ratio, clarity and resolution. I highly recommend a Samsung monitor for ease of setup, operation and sharpness. Reasonably priced as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Satisfaction Guaranteed, July 12, 2008

This is an outstanding product. Resolution is outstanding, especially when you use the DVI cable connection. Having the ability to have two windows side by side without having to ALT-TAB between windows is a big plus.

One thing to keep in mind is that when you connect the monitor for the first time, it will not immediately appear in the wide screen format. You must install the drivers and manually change the resolution. That information is not in the printed instructions.

Also, if you plan on viewing an HD DVD, make sure you have a HD DVD Player installed on your PC.

Other than that it is an outstanding product.

4.0 out of 5 stars 4 1/2 stars - Nice monitor!, June 2, 2008

This review is from: Samsung SyncMaster 2253BW 22-inch LCD Monitor (Electronics)
Quick and dirty review..

Pros:

- Pic quality - excellent when using DVI.
- Looks - Exterior is very striking and "apple'sque".

Cons:

- Bleeding from top and bottom of screen when on a pure black image. Might be fixable in the menu, but it really doesnt bother me.

- Menu system is clunky, and button access is clunky, but you really will only mess with that once or twice a year.

- DVI and VGA location is weird on the back. No biggie, but still kinda weird getting the cable in there.

4.0 out of 5 stars 2 Year Owner of This Model, August 29, 2008
By
This review is from: Samsung SyncMaster 2253BW 22-inch LCD Monitor (Electronics)
Since I encountered my first major issue today, I got lost in "troubleshooting" links trying to find a solution, found loads of reviews on this monitor, but none of them were long time owners as I am, so I thought I'd add a piece.

First let me say I've owned this SyncMaster 226bw since May of 2006, and I've had zero problems with it. I do not see any backlight bleeding, in fact, I've hunted for it on purpose trying to figure out exactly what that is. I have no light coming through the top or the bottom, and I have no dead pixels that I can see. I love the expansive desktop area. Great for multitasking, nothing takes up any space. I do dislike the setting buttons, they are kind of awkward, but in the end thats only cause I'm too lazy to figure out what they do, and I've only touched them twice (once when I got it, and today).

I did once have an issue where I saw strange flickering type flecks, mainly on the borders of windows. This seems to have resolved itself, as I no longer see them.

One major thing I should point out is that I never turn it off, since I never turn off my computer, I never go into standby, I do not use a screensaver of any kind. In 2+ years, its worked perfectly, constantly. Until today.. Today my power went out. So I unplugged everything, waited patiently for nearly 3 hours for the power to come back on, plugged everything back in, and powered up. The monitor blinked steady. Just blink blink blink, in and out. I could see the screen enough to hunt google for troubleshooting but found nothing. One post I found mentioned the backlight may be dying, that the screen will often blink for a while then finally just go out. So I quickly started searching how to go about replacing the backlight, when suddenly, it stopped... Not sure how long it went on for, few minutes I'm guessing, but its right back to perfect in my opinion.

So! All in all, 2+ years, I've had 2 issues, both of which resolved themselves. Sounds like money well spent to me!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, June 8, 2008

I can't believe how ridiculous the first reviewer sounds,

"First, it runs blurry in all resolutions except it's native resolution of 1680 x 1050..."

That's EVERY LCD flat panel, dork!

"and in order to get that resolution I had to buy an $80 video card."

How is it the monitor's fault that you originally had an inferior graphics card?

"Of course, once you get to 1680 x 1050 every is razor sharp but then it's really really small too."

Again, not the monitor's fault that YOU have bad vision... It's MADE to display the 1680 x 1050 high resolution...

"And to be fair, I'm using the VGA connection, not the digital connection, so that may make a difference too. "

OMG... there's no "may", it DOES make a difference.

I don't know how this guy is a "top reviewer", but he obviously doesn't know anything about monitors and/or computers. If you want great color reproduction, contrast, and very fast 2ms response time, (and if you know what the hell you're doing) then you will NOT be disappointed.
