Brown lines and bad customer service,
By idsane "idsane" (Denver, CO) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Samsung SyncMaster C793DF-T/T 17" CRT Monitor (Silver/Black) (Electronics)
I have the same brown lines problem, but with a 793MB syncmaster. I put up with it for a while, then called customer service. They said they would ship a new monitor, and pick up the old one for free. Well the shipping to me was free, although the return was not. I called customer service with the name and extension of the person that had told me the return was free, and the supervisor did not budge. To top it off, the brand new montitor has WORSE brown lines than the old one. I have to hit the monitor very hard to get them to stop. All and all, b/c of the TERRIBLE customer service, I WILL NEVER BUY ANYTHING SAMSUNG AGAIN. These companies need to realize that it is more worth it for them to suck up $20 in shipping rather than lose a customer for life.

BROWN IS THE COLOR,

DITTO, for the mishaps everybody is having: the lines, the customer services, the shipping labels, the reburbished recurrences, the executives, the selective CEO amnesia, NEED I say more?? I have a brand new ATI video card, and bought this CRT instead of LCD because, I have experience in gaming with these rather than the latter ones. Boy!!! going to use my AMEX extended warranty on this one. ALl I need is have an authorized repair shop declare"beyond repair" to get my money back. Amex only need documentation. (receipts, statements etc) SAMSUNG..you guys know you have been sued before...you have patent problems too. too bad

Samsung Headache,
By Elli S. (Point Roberts, WA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Samsung SyncMaster C793DF-T/T 17" CRT Monitor (Silver/Black) (Electronics)
Well I got this one for my boyfriend, and the brown lines showed up the second day. I took it to the repair/warranty place and they at first claimed to fix it, but as soon as I got it home, the brown lines came back. Back to the repair shop, where they claimed to replace it, but it had the same serial number as the original model. So I called Samsung and got a brand new one in the mail in a *very* battered box. The styrofoam was even crumbled to bits. This model was from China, not the Philippines. The brown lines are *worse* this time and I am about to contact them again to try to get another trade-in. As a side note, a friend of mine had the same experience, but Samsung gave him a trade-up to an MB model. He hooked it up in a dual-monitor setup and found that the colour is horribly amber tinted, so he's going to return that one, too. As another side note, I purchased the black and silver 793DF model and have had no problems at all yet.

Make yourself a favor: look somewhere else,

This review is from: Samsung SyncMaster C793DF-T/T 17" CRT Monitor (Silver/Black) (Electronics)
We purchased this monitor and if failed within 2 weeks. Brown flashing lines starting from bottom-right corner and getting worst with time. Turning monitor off/on corrects the issue temporarily.Got it exchanged from Future Shop (service at least was good). The new one failed within 5 months with the exact same problem! Hopefully Future Shop was sensitive to the problem and allowed us to exchange the monitor for a different model. We went to a NEC LCD 1770GX and so far so good... paid more but this is NEC and it has great reviews. Hope we'll be OK! The Samsung CRT monitors deserve a 0-star rating

Sharp, crisp images but defect disappoints.,
By Dee (SEA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Samsung SyncMaster C793DF-T/T 17" CRT Monitor (Silver/Black) (Electronics)
The images are sharp, crisp and of great quality. A pity that, like a number of other Samsung moniters, brown lines started to appear on the moniter over time. No amount of testing, software or hardware, could fix it. Finally, I discovered that it was a manufacturing defect. Presently, I'm deciding whether to exchange it or just get an LCD.

Beware the brown lines!!,

This review is from: Samsung SyncMaster C793DF-T/T 17" CRT Monitor (Silver/Black) (Electronics)
We too had the SAME problems with the brown lines and exchanged the monitor. Well, the brown lines are gone but now we have a shadow image that makes everything appear out of focus AND a high pitched whine that emits from the monitor. Very relaxing! We're just waiting it out until we have money to purchase a new monitor (but definitely not Samsung!). In 18 years of owning computers we have never had such a bad experience with not just one, but two monitors!

Brown Lines,
By
This review is from: Samsung SyncMaster C793DF-T/T 17" CRT Monitor (Silver/Black) (Electronics)
I've ran into the same problems of the brown lines. I have now gone through THREE replacement monitors (at no cost except the first replacement was $40). The third one just started showing lines a week after I put it to use. Samsung claims it is my video card, however, I have used my video card with another monitor (another brand) and it doesn't show the lines. In addition, I have attached the Samsung to another computer and the same lines appear. I don't think that it is my video card.

me too! brown lines,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Samsung SyncMaster C793DF-T/T 17" CRT Monitor (Silver/Black) (Electronics)
My brown lines have shown up as well. I got the same story re invoking the warrantee. Three options: 1. They ship a replacement to me, only charging my credit card if I don't ship the old one back to them within 30 days. I figure a $30-$40 charge to ship a monitor of this weight back. 2. For $40 they ship to a UPS Store. I don't know what the return situation was. 3. I can drive it in to a warehouse location and wait 7 -10 days for repair (and pick it up again?).I chose (1). I then spoke to Samsung Executive Customer Service who was polite, but unwilling to provide a return shipping label. I then went to Amazon to look at the cost of a new monitor rather than a replacement (probably refurbished) monitor from Samsung. Why pay $30+ for a refurbished CRT if there's a reasonable cost option. I was suprised to see that 4 of 6 Amazon reviews for this model mention the brown lines. I recalled Samsung Executive Customer Service and discussed what seemed like a 'known problem' based upon the Amazon reviews. I was told it's not a "known problem"; there has been no manufacturers recall. They were willing to swap or upgrade to another model at additional cost. I was told all of this was policy for CRT monitors and could not be changed. So in effect, while parts and labor are covered, I have to pay to invoke the warrantee, and I get a refurbished monitor (OK that's fair), but with a history of a known problem. For today I've put my replacement on hold while I consider my options and costs, but I'm pretty sure I won't spend money to receive a replacement model with 'known problems.' I'd rather spend my $ on another manufacturer and take my chances with a new monitor instead of a refurbished one. I also asked Samsung Executive Customer Service for the name of the USA CEO so I could write to let him know of my disappointment in my Samsung experience. I was first told that they didn't have his name, that I should just write to a customer service address. After I said I'd look it up myself and mention in my letter that the Samsung executive customer service didn't know his name, they found it. BTW, I have no complaint with Amazon on price or delivery.

Samsung BROWN LINES AGAIN,
By
This review is from: Samsung SyncMaster C793DF-T/T 17" CRT Monitor (Silver/Black) (Electronics)
Same problem with 793S monitor. Perhaps I have been a little luckier as it's taken a year or two for the lines to appear. WHAT IS WRONG WITH SAMSUNG'S QUALITY CONTROL, or components?I've been told it's something that plug's into the circuit board on the monitor CRT neck. No one unqualified touches monitor repair's like this as a) very delicate part of CRT b) VERY high voltages may be present even with the monitor disconnected from the mains electricity. It's such a shame as the picture is very bright, and the colours excellent, but all spoilt completely by the brown lines issue, and atrocious customer service. Could be worse, (not much!!) as a previous company replaced an SVGA monitor with, unbelievably a VGA monitor, and it took trading standards and threat of legal action to get a proper replacement. I'm surprised that Samsung deny that there is an issue with these monitors. In a survey 4/5 of these monitors have proved defective in exactly the same way. Samsung - admit this is a PROBLEM, and offer customers a GOOD alternative model as a replacement. The harm to SAMSUNG's brand name is immense over this one.
