Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description
Featuring a slim, slider design that's reminiscent of Samsung's D900 and T629 models, the tri-band Samsung T429 phone for T-Mobile is a nicely affordable, highly functional phone that will keep you closely connected as you wind through the day and night. In addition to text messaging capabilities, you can chat with buddies using Yahoo!, MSN, AOL, or ICQ instant messaging services. The phone also includes Bluetooth connectivity for communication headsets, a VGA camera, polyphonic ringtones, and a speakerphone.

With T-Mobile's MyFaves service, you'll enjoy unlimited nationwide calling to your 5 favorite people.
T-Mobile Service
This phone is compatible with T-Mobile's myFaves service, which allows you to call up to five of your most common contacts--on any network, even landlines--without using any of your minutes. Learn more about myFaves from T-Mobile.

It also includes the T-Mobile Address Book service, which lets you add or edit contact info online, store it on T-Mobile's server, and then synchronize the changes with your phone. You can import from Microsoft Outlook, .vcf files, or use .csv files to import from Yahoo!, Gmail, etc., as well as back up your phone's address book with enhanced safety features.

Phone Features
Measuring just 0.56 inches thin, the Samsung T429 sports a large 2-inch LCD screen with support for 65K colors and a 128 x 160-pixel resolution. The top of the phone includes a standard four-way toggle, two soft keys, and answer/end buttons, and the numeric keypad is found underneath the sliding face. The phone's camera lens requires that the face is slid open. The camera can snap pictures in four resolutions--from 128 x 96 to 640 x 480 pixels (VGA)--and it offers a 4x digital zoom, night mode, brightness and white balance settings, self-timer, and multiple color effects. Images are stored on the phone's shared 2.7 MB of memory, and it does not record video clips. You can send photos to friends with image-compatible phones via MMS messaging, or you can upload them to T-Mobile's My Album--a personal online photo album that allows you to store pictures and share with family and friends.

Because the T429 is Bluetooth enabled, wireless communication headsets can be configured with the phone for total hands-free operation. It also comes with a speakerphone option for when you don't have a Bluetooth headset handy, as well as voice recording capabilities for short notes to yourself.

In addition to SMS text messaging capabilities, the T429 offers built-in instant messaging with Yahoo!, MSN, AOL, and ICQ services. The T9 predictive text entry technology is built into the unit, which makes it easier for you to enter words and text on handsets. Other features include:

  • Up to 500 contact entries with five numbers and one email address per entry
  • MMS multimedia messaging
  • Vibrate mode
  • PIM tools: calendar, alarm, to-do list, calculator, world clock, stopwatch, unit converter, tip calculator

Vital Statistics
The Samsung T429 weighs 2.9 ounces and measures 3.9 x 1.9 x 0.6 inches. Its 800 mAh lithium-ion battery is rated at up to 6 hours of talk time, and up to 14 days of digital standby time. It runs on the 850/1800/1900 GSM/GPRS frequencies.

Product Description
Slide yourself into something new. The cool slider design, integrated camera, and Bluetooth technology make the Samsung t429 both fun and functional

4.0 out of 5 stars I love this compaired to my moto razr, September 1, 2008
After 2 years of dealing with the rave that was the MotoRazr I was happy to upgrade. I actually was looking at some of the hightech stuff like an Mp3 player phone or a smartphone. But my lifestyle doesn't need that. I tend to use my phone to make calls, send basic texts and once in blue moon take a photo. I really was expecting to go for some "cool" hightech phone when I noticed this one at the T-mobile store. Looks wise I like how it fits into the hand and is a slider phone. The graphics are very basic (the menu lights up in B/W), you can't use real songs as ringtones, and when you make a call there will be some sound in the background. However! Compaired to the razr I had the speaker phone is excellent. I can clean a small room while chatting on the speaker phone and the camera is good for basic photos. My friends who have hightechy phone were teasing me about getting a basic phone but when they saw it they changed their minds. They said it was great for what it was... which is a basic phone that looks and feels updated. If you are looking for a solid phone for taking calls, basic texting and other basic functions this is a great choice. If you want a flip phone or something very high-techy then I say pass.

As an owner I have to say I love this phone!:)

4.0 out of 5 stars Best Cell Phone Ever!!!, May 21, 2008
By Sara "SaraMac" (WI, United States) - See all my reviews
I have used many cell phones in the past and this one is by far the best. I've had candy bars, which I have always loved them as far as reception, but the minute I switch to flip, I end up having problems with signal strength, dropped calls, just too aggravating!

I found this gem. Being as I would love to have a camera on my phone, but doesn't need to be in the MP type resolution. Even for a low resolution, it takes pretty good photos! You can even record sound to go with your photo as well. (I won't be using this feature, but it's there for anyone who think they will..LOL)

I love that it has memo recorder, this way you need to remind yourself of something you're worried you'll forget, you can do this with the Samsung.

The phone doesn't feel bulky and I love that you can slide the phone when a call comes in to unlock the phone, instead of fumbling for the talk button. Downside is, when a call comes in and you grab it from your pocket. You might accidentally hit the accept or reject button. I end up hitting reject, haven't hit accept yet. Which is good, for the most part, I'd rather reject a call than accept.

As for the review below mine that mentions there is no USB Data Cable for this. Apparently, this person did not research for one. Being as I purchased one myself from Ebay and then I went to Samsung's website and downloaded Samsung PC Studio 3. Which helps me manage my photos, ringtones, wallpapers, etc. I found a seperate program to make my own ringtones and this is awesome!!

As far as the resolution on this screen compared to others, to me it doesn't look any different. I'm not that techincal looking at this one versus other screens. I do have to say is this screen is by far the largest I have owned.

I have noticed with this phone, I don't get a range as far as I did with my candy bars phones, but this superceeds what my flips in the past have covered. Which many people complain about their service not covering, when it's not them, alot has to do with the phone and what it's capable of doing.

As far as using the bluetooth for internet, I don't even see this mentioned in the description. So if you're looking for a phone that has bluetooth internet capabilities, this is not the phone for you. I haven't used an additonal bluetooth headset for this phone just yet, but will be my next purchase.

I also love that it has a block caller feature. In the event I should ever get a wrong number, which surprisingly hasn't happened to me yet. I can add them to a block list to prevent future calls from coming thru.

I do wish this phone had expandeable memory. From the ringtones I have created and photos I have taken and from my phonebook, I'm already halfway thru. *sigh* I was hoping to have individual ringtones for callers, but it doesn't look like that will happen.

This is a really good phone and was well worth the money I paid. I got this at Best Buy for $99, and this was for the prepaid service.

UPDATE :

I have picked up over the summer a bluetooth speakerphone for my car and it's works wonderfully.

After having this phone for some time, it has been the best investment! Again, wished it had more memory for ringtones, but that is a rather small oversight.

3.0 out of 5 stars OK but not great...., November 3, 2008
By Peripateticus (Austin, Texas) - See all my reviews
I changed my t-mobile plan to MyFaves, and was told that I needed a MyFaves compatible phone (I later found out that this is true only if you want the silly MyFaves interface), so I opted for this one. It is OK but has some drawbacks. You can't customize the soft keys; I find this annoying since I use the calendar and alarm features quite a bit and have to go through way too many keystrokes to get there instead of just pushing just one key. Also, the phone doesn't come with a data cable, which is essential if you want to add your own ringtones and wallpaper or charge the phone via a USB port, all via the Samsung PC Studio software that you can download for free from the Samsung site. Fortunately you can get a cable on Amazon for under $5 so that's not a huge problem, but the package would be much appealing if the phone came with a cable and software disk. All told, this is an OK phone for free but doesn't do any more than the basics.
