4.0 out of 5 stars I love this compaired to my moto razr

4.0 out of 5 stars I love this compaired to my moto razr, September 1, 2008
This review is from: Samsung t429 Phone (T-Mobile) (Wireless Phone)
After 2 years of dealing with the rave that was the MotoRazr I was happy to upgrade. I actually was looking at some of the hightech stuff like an Mp3 player phone or a smartphone. But my lifestyle doesn't need that. I tend to use my phone to make calls, send basic texts and once in blue moon take a photo. I really was expecting to go for some "cool" hightech phone when I noticed this one at the T-mobile store. Looks wise I like how it fits into the hand and is a slider phone. The graphics are very basic (the menu lights up in B/W), you can't use real songs as ringtones, and when you make a call there will be some sound in the background. However! Compaired to the razr I had the speaker phone is excellent. I can clean a small room while chatting on the speaker phone and the camera is good for basic photos. My friends who have hightechy phone were teasing me about getting a basic phone but when they saw it they changed their minds. They said it was great for what it was... which is a basic phone that looks and feels updated. If you are looking for a solid phone for taking calls, basic texting and other basic functions this is a great choice. If you want a flip phone or something very high-techy then I say pass.

As an owner I have to say I love this phone!:)

I changed my t-mobile plan to MyFaves, and was told that I needed a MyFaves compatible phone (I later found out that this is true only if you want the silly MyFaves interface), so I opted for this one. It is OK but has some drawbacks. You can't customize the soft keys; I find this annoying since I use the calendar and alarm features quite a bit and have to go through way too many keystrokes to get there instead of just pushing just one key. Also, the phone doesn't come with a data cable, which is essential if you want to add your own ringtones and wallpaper or charge the phone via a USB port, all via the Samsung PC Studio software that you can download for free from the Samsung site. Fortunately you can get a cable on Amazon for under $5 so that's not a huge problem, but the package would be much appealing if the phone came with a cable and software disk. All told, this is an OK phone for free but doesn't do any more than the basics.

4.0 out of 5 stars Best Cell Phone Ever!!!, May 21, 2008
By
Sara "SaraMac" (WI, United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Samsung t429 Phone (T-Mobile) (Wireless Phone)
I have used many cell phones in the past and this one is by far the best. I've had candy bars, which I have always loved them as far as reception, but the minute I switch to flip, I end up having problems with signal strength, dropped calls, just too aggravating!

I found this gem. Being as I would love to have a camera on my phone, but doesn't need to be in the MP type resolution. Even for a low resolution, it takes pretty good photos! You can even record sound to go with your photo as well. (I won't be using this feature, but it's there for anyone who think they will..LOL)

I love that it has memo recorder, this way you need to remind yourself of something you're worried you'll forget, you can do this with the Samsung.

The phone doesn't feel bulky and I love that you can slide the phone when a call comes in to unlock the phone, instead of fumbling for the talk button. Downside is, when a call comes in and you grab it from your pocket. You might accidentally hit the accept or reject button. I end up hitting reject, haven't hit accept yet. Which is good, for the most part, I'd rather reject a call than accept.

As for the review below mine that mentions there is no USB Data Cable for this. Apparently, this person did not research for one. Being as I purchased one myself from Ebay and then I went to Samsung's website and downloaded Samsung PC Studio 3. Which helps me manage my photos, ringtones, wallpapers, etc. I found a seperate program to make my own ringtones and this is awesome!!

As far as the resolution on this screen compared to others, to me it doesn't look any different. I'm not that techincal looking at this one versus other screens. I do have to say is this screen is by far the largest I have owned.

I have noticed with this phone, I don't get a range as far as I did with my candy bars phones, but this superceeds what my flips in the past have covered. Which many people complain about their service not covering, when it's not them, alot has to do with the phone and what it's capable of doing.

As far as using the bluetooth for internet, I don't even see this mentioned in the description. So if you're looking for a phone that has bluetooth internet capabilities, this is not the phone for you. I haven't used an additonal bluetooth headset for this phone just yet, but will be my next purchase.

I also love that it has a block caller feature. In the event I should ever get a wrong number, which surprisingly hasn't happened to me yet. I can add them to a block list to prevent future calls from coming thru.

I do wish this phone had expandeable memory. From the ringtones I have created and photos I have taken and from my phonebook, I'm already halfway thru. *sigh* I was hoping to have individual ringtones for callers, but it doesn't look like that will happen.

This is a really good phone and was well worth the money I paid. I got this at Best Buy for $99, and this was for the prepaid service.

UPDATE :

I have picked up over the summer a bluetooth speakerphone for my car and it's works wonderfully.

After having this phone for some time, it has been the best investment! Again, wished it had more memory for ringtones, but that is a rather small oversight.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Cellphone, expect it to die just after 1 year warranty, January 12, 2009
By
Bryan Schuman (Federal Way, WA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Samsung t429 Phone (T-Mobile) (Wireless Phone)
This phone is well executed, and a pleasure to use. The only major bad thing I have found on it with over a year of use is that the speakerphone likes to drop out and isn't very good.

Now, however, just after the one year warranty ran out, I find myself in a bad position. The phone began not working right, starting with the speaker (not speakerphone mode) going intermittent, then ringing going intermittent, and it gets worse from there. This is just using it moderately, not even daily. I'm a geek, and being past warranty I went ahead with my miniature tools and carefully dissected the phone to find the issue was exactly what I was afraid of happening when I bought it. There is a flexible cable that connects the circuitry between the two sliding halves. Over time, it has worn in and eventually has developed edge "wobbles" and a crack in the cable. I am by no means abusive, I have kept it in a nice holster for most of it's life, and take care of my gadgets, but alas, this is a design flaw. Beware of this with all sliders.

On the good side, the little door over the charging port has managed to stay on...

2.0 out of 5 stars Good for basics, December 19, 2008
By
This review is from: Samsung t429 Phone (T-Mobile) (Wireless Phone)
I had received this as an early Christmas present as a replacement, it was purchased as a to-go phone but I just put my SIM card into it since I already have a plan. I would take this phone back in a heartbeat but I can't afford anything better at the moment (nor do I even have the receipt to return it and I refuse to be rude about it). I had the Samsung Blast and I miss it already!

1: The picture/screen quality is bad, it's fuzzy and never seems in focus at all. When I start to take pictures everything seems to be in fast motion so I can't seem to get it to "stop" in order to take a good picture.

2: It does not take videos at all. Which was a must have since we have a 15 month old that I always take and send videos of to family!

3: Bluetooth is OH-SO limited! It's horrible. I used my Blast to bluetooth photos or video or whatnot to family/friends when I was near them instead of texting it. I even used it for with my husband, I had a memory card so sometimes I would download something for him and bluetooth it to him. So he was pissed when he found out we couldn't bluetooth to our new phones. The only use for Bluetooth is headsets or handsfree sets. Disgusting!

4: What is UP with the huge letters, it's probably just me but it's super annoying!

5: It has no external memory card slot. So good thing the camera part sucks because I have nothing to save.

6: After some getting used to, I was able to figure out how to use the typing program on it, it's not very different from the Blast, except that I have to use the * button to switch the words/symbols and hold down a little longer for the numbers I need. I am a qwerty typer (which is what the Blast had), so switching to ABC mode was difficult at first. At least it has the same program as the Blast with switching for the word I need, so that made me happy.

The bottom line, it's a very limited phone, not the best quality coming from Samsung, but good enough for a replacement phone until I can afford what I want which is the Samsung Gravity or at least something with qwerty keypad. I give it a 2 star because it does what I need at the moment and because it's Samsung, the program is really no different.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Nice Basic Phone, July 22, 2010
This review is from: Samsung t429 Phone (T-Mobile) (Wireless Phone)
Great basic phone. I'm impressed. I don't need a smartphone, just a phone that has good battery life and good call quality. This phone has both. I've yet to actually see the battery indicator bars change. Maybe they're painted on, lol! I do put the phone on a charger every night out of habit. My last phone, a crappy Nokia 6555, would lose charge if you looked at it wrong.

The front screen is pretty resistant to scratches. I keep the phone in my pocket with a pocket knife and was concerned about it getting scratched up. It's still fine.

I got an unlocked phone and use it with AT&T service so I can't comment on the T-Mobile service.

If you're looking for a decent basic phone this would do fine.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Phone, Good Service, May 27, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I am not sure if either a RAZR phone or AT&T service needs any further reviews :) I am very satisified with the phone, it's battery life and the coice quality. AT&T service is good so far as well. I already checked that i covers the area that I travel/commute the most and hence I was not expecting any call drops and I haven't.

The first AT&T bill seemed higher than my plan to 39.99, but when I called customer service they patiently explained me each and every detail. Basically, I was charged more since I bought the plan on May 26th and they rounded the bill from June 1st. So, there was an additional charge of 4 days + tax to a monthly bill.

2.0 out of 5 stars can't customize, November 15, 2007

This review is from: Samsung t429 Phone (T-Mobile) (Wireless Phone)
i bought this phone w/out looking at the features and i regret ever buying it. i use to have the t809 and that's 10x better than this. the screen color and resolution are lower than t809. bluetooth doesn't see any device other than bluetooth headset. (i've tested with several phones and a computer with bluetooth) There's no data setting to transfer file from the computer via data cable. there's no flash drive.

t429 is good is an ok phone but if you want something that you can customize then go with something else.
