This is an outstanding stand. Assembly was very easy, requiring only a simple philips head screwdriver. The stand is solid, nice looking, well packaged. I am very happy.
If you do purchase this stand, I believe there is an error in the assembly instructions: I believe there is an error in "Step 3" of the installation instructions. In "Step 3", there are bolts that are used to connect several parts together identified as "3". I believe that this should be "2". In my case, I put it together for the 61" version and this calls for 14 bolts. As shown on the parts identification list, only four pieces of Part #3 are supplied. There are eighteen pieces of part #2. I assembled my stand with Part #2 for this step and this appears to be the correct assembly.

I ordered this stand from Amazon, based primarily on the recommendation of compatibility from both Samsung and Amazon's websites. I wasn't able to find one locally to look over and hesitantly took a chance by ordering "site unseen." Unfortunately, many of the negative reviews already posted proved to match my experience with this product. Being an engineer, I feel qualified to state that while the product looks very nice and goes together well, it just doesn't perform well under the 61" TV it's recommended for. I believe it might support the weight of the smaller TV's better, as they're lighter and the stand would use the shorter extender, or none at all in it's assembly, leading to a stronger unit. But that still wouldn't address all it's issues... I put the stand together in about an hour from signing for it. It went together fairly easily, without any of the previously mentioned errors in the instruction, which must have been rectified. Due to the shallow depth of the shelves, neither my Motorola cable box, or Samsung TIB / DVD player would fit on the shelves without danger of falling over the front edge. The rear supports also made cable routing very difficult. Despite splitting my components out towards the outer edges of the shelves for maximum support, the glass shelve began to sag under their weight right away. Almost immediately after placing the TV on the stand, the top shelf began sagging so that the TV was actually leaning forward slightly. I kept the TV toward the back to try to gain as much strength from the rear supports as possible, but that didn't seem to have helped. The following morning, I noticed the TV was leaning so far forward, I was concerned it might topple off the stand, so we removed the TV and decided to go another direction. Again, the problem appears to be related to trying to make this same stand work with multiple size TV's through the use of shelve extenders, leading to it's weakness. I contacted Amazon and briefly explained my concerns and was promptly and courteously led through a very simple return process. The full amount paid was credited to my account within less than a week after shipping the item back. 5-Star to Amazon, but only 1-Star to the product. I'm not one that's quick to give negative reviews, but in this case it fits the product.

Good stand if used for a Samsung DLP set,

This stand looks good and went together well. It also fits the Samsung 61 inch DLP set very well and is a good match. One comment. I received the stand before the TV and put my old 27 inch CRT TV on top of it for a few days. There was a noticeable sag in the wood on the topmost shelf after a few days. Apparently the design is such that the weight needs to be evenly distributed along the top. So be careful not to put anything heavy on this stand. Once the DLP TV was on top of it, the stand was fine. I guess the light weight of the DLP set (only 75 lbs!) and the wide weight distribution makes the difference.

I have two earlier models of Samsung stands for 61 inch DLP-HDTVs that are sturdier and better designed/made. This one's metal bars that support the shelves are not sufficiently sturdy nor well anchored. I had to put a piece of wood in the middle, under the lower glass shelf, to prevent it from breaking/buckling under the weight of my A/V receiver and the center speaker. Clearly the designer and the builder of this stand did not consider that the user may want to buy it for his/her A/V receiver, center speaker, DVD player, cable box, and others (a lap top in my case, to listen to music through i-tunes and other sites). I'm going to live with it but those who are considering buying this stand are well-advised to check the size and weight of the components it is to accommodate.

After reading every review on Amazon I could find on this stand, I decided to purchase it for my 56" DLP Samsung TV. Even though there were a couple negative reviews, I thought the good reviews outweighed the bad ones. I'm glad I did. The stand arrived earlier than expected and in perfect condition with absolutely no scratches or defects whatsoever (with the exception of one missing lock washer out of 26 total.) The stand (when still inside the box) is a little heavier than I had originally thought, but not so heavy that I wasn't able to move it around during installation. When fully assembled, the stand looks very nice and appears to be quite sturdy. "Mr. Home Improvement" is NOT my middle name, but even so, it only took me about an hour and a half to assemble the whole stand by myself and that's even after reading all the instructions. You will need two Phillips screwdrivers (one large Phillips to tighten the cams and one small Phillips to tighten the cam bolts.) There is also a hex key included for the remaining bolts. One of the reviews I read said there was a mistake in Step 3 of the assembly instructions, but I found no such mistake in my instructions, so it must have been corrected by the manufacture. Another review I read said the top shelf was not very strong when attached to the rest of the stand. I do agree with that statement. The top shelf is assembled together but is really only fastened to the rest of the stand by five cam bolts and cams along with a metal support. And since this stand is very heavy, it is not intended to be lifted and moved around by grabbing onto the top shelf. The weight of the stand could separate the top shelf from the rest of the stand. But the construction doesn't pose any problem with the TV sitting on the top shelf as designed (as the weight of the TV applies downward pressure.) For this reason, I suggest assemblying the stand as close as possible to its final destination so you don't have to move it around a lot after it's assembled. The top shelf is made of wood and both the middle and bottom shelves are glass. The two glass shelves are 15.75" deep, so if you've got any piece of equipment bigger than that, it will stick out. I do wish the height distance between the three shelves was a little higher, also. The distance between the top of the bottom shelf and the bottom of the middle shelf is only 10.5" high and the distance between the top of the middle shelf and the bottom of the top shelf is only 6.75" high. Also, there is a 50 lb. weight limit on both the middle and bottom shelves and a 100 lb. weight limit (for the TV) on the top shelf. All in all, I think the stand looks very nice, is sturdy and should suit my needs for a long time.

Not for a 61 inch television,

Nice stand but poorly made for a 61 inch television. It works for up to 50inches but then is very unstable for anything over. It was a waste of 250 dollars because I need a new one.

I wish I had read the first review before assembling it. The wrong instruction frustrated us. There are multiple scratches on a few wooden pieces. We wonder if it was a return. It is somehow well wrapped and packed like brand new. Looks good though. May consider reassemble it when I got time.

I have always been a believer in buying the stand that goes with the TV and never had a problem. This stand does look good and fits well with my 56" Samsung.
But issues include: 1) Stand is not deap enough. I do not have super high end componets or anything and they hang off the front of the stand 2)The glass shelves are not near strong enough. They are sagging and again my compentes are not high end. For someone that has a heavy amp this stand is not an option. 3) The whole stand leans forward and I really thought at first the whole thing was going to tip over. I shimmed up the front of the stand and that seemed to solve the problem.

Samsung DLP stand for 61',
By Kevin Zook (NJ) - See all my reviews

Someone else stated this perfectly....
While this stand is supposed to be the recommended stand for the current line of Samsung DLP TVs from 50" to 61", it's very flimsy when used with the 61" model. When adjusted to this maximum length, the horizontal cross-bar bends slightly downwards under the weight of the TV set. Mine is doing this also. Please avoid like the plague if you are getting the 61'

I purchased this stand with my Samsung 61" DLP TV.
First, I would like to say that this would be a beautiful stand for a 50" television, but for a 61" TV, the glass shelves are just too short to make the stand look nice. I would rather they ask you the size and ship appropriate shelves with it separately. Luckily my Uncle owns a glass shop and I can get the shelf replaced. Second, Watch the size of your components. I have an Onkyo TX-NR801 receiver and the stand is not deep enough for my receiver. It sticks out 3½" from the front of the stand. What I am going to do is replace the bottom piece of glass with a piece of finished wood (painted with gloss black paint) that is 4 inches deeper. The wood will stick out from the front of the stand but will give the receiver better support and even it out a bit. |
