Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

Samsung's 16-inch TX-P1634 is a full-featured direct-view CRT TV in a package small enough to put just about anywhere. The DynaFlat antidistortion, antiglare dark-tint picture tube improves colors and picture contrast and minimizes reflections. The TX-P1634 has a 4:3 aspect ratio, good for viewing analog broadcast TV and pan-and-scan-formatted video at a resolution of 480i (interlaced). Four video presets optimize the picture for the type of program being watched with user-adjustable brightness, contrast, sharpness, color, and tint. Screen-filling picture modes let you fit the image to your screen.

A digital comb filter virtually eliminates dot crawl or cross-color interference, producing a superior picture. The Invar shadow mask removes picture discoloration (doming) caused by heat and allows the tube to operate at a higher voltage, yielding brighter whites, higher contrast, and purer colors. Color temperature controls allow you to adjust white balance. The "Warm" setting reduces the color temperature and delivers a redder image that is ideal for display in a dimly lit room. "Normal" and "Cool" provide a progressively bluer image for the best picture as room light levels are increased.

The TX-P1634's speaker design uses side-mounted, front-firing speakers to deliver the most stereo sound reproduction available from a television's internal speaker system. Aside from the 2.5-watt-per-channel stereo speaker system, the set has MTS for receiving stereo sound and SAP for receiving a second audio track in another language. Auto volume leveling eliminates drastic volume spikes while changing channels or during commercial breaks. And the improved Turbo Sound loudness control boosts high and low audio frequencies, while sound enhancement modes create more realistic audio environments for movies, music, and speech.

A set of side composite inputs present a clean-looking front cabinet and makes hooking up a game console or camcorder a snap. Rear composite inputs and a DVD component input make connecting your audio/visual equipment easy. Component video inputs split the video signal into its base components--Y (the black and white part of the picture), Pr (red minus Y), and Pb (blue minus Y). The signal remains pure and unaffected by the TV's comb filter or NTSC decoder. The result is higher resolution and improved color purity.

Many convenience features have been incorporated into the TX-P1634's design. A full-function remote control gives you access to the trilingual (English, Spanish, French) onscreen display, sleep timer, noise muting, and channel return as well as basics like channel changing, volume, and picture and audio adjustments. There is also a V-chip control system to easily limit the types of programs your children are watching and a Remote Surf feature that returns the TV to the original channel so other channels can be browsed during commercial breaks.

1.0 out of 5 stars Piece of junk, July 22, 2005
This review is from: Samsung TX-P1634 16" Flat Screen TV (Electronics)
Three months after buying this TV in 12/04, the picture went bad.

Have to pay half of what the TV costs to get it fixed. Warranty will not cover labor. Had to go to service center that Samsung recommends. Piece of junk.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great set for the money!, January 3, 2006
This review is from: Samsung TX-P1634 16" Flat Screen TV (Electronics)
The picture on this set is just as watchable to me as the picture on my 15" high definition flat panel set. The difference is that this set costs about $150.00.

The other difference is that the picture doesn't get dimmer if you're sitting at an angle below the set, which is what happens with the LCD TV I own.

Take the money you save and buy a used or cheap stereo system to run the sound through and you have a cute little theater setup.

Invest a few extra bucks and get a service contract to protect your investment for several years. Then if you get a "lemon" you don't lose out.

2.0 out of 5 stars forget it, February 24, 2006

i ordered this television twice around christmas. it's beautiful but both times it arrived broken. it was shipped by UPS and they obviously threw it around - so much so that the styrofoam was busted, the tv plastic casing was broken and there were parts of the interior floating around - twice! samsung needs to package it better because the UPS punks just don't care. Samsung did easily refund the money though.
