Great Bedroom TV,
By
This review is from: Samsung TX-P2675WH 26" Widescreen HDTV (Electronics)
We really wanted an LCD TV but were very unhappy with the image quality of regular TV (non HD) broadcasts compared to what we had with our old tube set. This TV delivers a truly excellent picture with both HD and standard cable broadcasts. While the set is big and bulky compared to flat screen LCD & Plasma sets, it's considerably less deep than comparable sets from other manufacturers & also features 2 sets of component inputs as well as DVI -- more high quality connections than sets of roughly the same size from Phillips & others. It's a great set for those people who watch lots of regular TV but who also want HDTV as available.

Good For The Money, But Not Quite Excellent,

Update 3/07/09
I've found out a little while back that they stopped making hdtv widescreen tube. For this size, everything is lcd now and I guess for lightweight, space saving, and energy efficiency. However, I've been browsing the local stores to see what's out there and the lcd doesn't quite match up to the tube. During fast action, you can see the square boxes, even with the top-of-the-line models like sharp and samsung toc. With lcd, you can have one bad pixel, multiple bad pixels, or a line of bad pixels. You might not be able to see them if you sit far enough but just knowing they're there could be bothersome to most people. I still love my tube because I'm picky about the picture quality. If you can find one used locally, buy it. You won't regret it, I promise. I use mine with a rooftop antenna to receive local hd stations. I matched the rooftop antenna with a channel master 7777 pre-amp and a leviton 48210 distribution amplifier and I'm getting perfect or near perfect reception. Please read my review on the channel master 7777 to see how i set it up. By june 12, 2009 if you can't get local channels via your rooftop antenna, you can use my set up to get it working, guarantee. I bought this tv locally due to its weight. I am fairly happy with it. I will not go into details about the specifications since most of you have done research about it online. If not, you can go to Samsung's website and read it there. The thing that I wish some other reviewers told me is that the color on the flesh tone is not very accurate. If you pay close attention, you can see people's skin somewhat purple-ish or green-ish. I tried changing the settings but every scenes are somewhat different. Also, the contrast on this is not quite as deep as, let's say, the Panasonic. A black shirt suppose to look dark, not gray-ish, and a white shirt suppose to look bright, not glared or washed-out. I would give the flesh tone rating of 8 out of 10 and the contrast 7.5 out of 10. I wish Panasonic makes a 26-inch with a high definition built-in but since they don't, I decided to get this one. Overall I give it 8.5 out of 10 for the many features it has, on the tv and the remote. I like the built-in program guide to let you know what shows are on and a brief description of each. If you want to go full screen on the program guide and small tv screen, it does take a while to download, about 55 seconds to get a list of 6 channels. If you click the down button to see what's playing on the next channel, it takes another 30 seconds. Another drawback is that the program guide only lists current shows and up to 12 hours ahead. The remote is non-lighted but that doesn't bother me. On the bottom is a sliding compartment that has hidden buttons. The one I use the most is the close caption decoder. All I have to do is slide down the door and press the button once to turn on or off the onscreen text. All the picture settings are from 1 to 100 and I set mine on the following that works best; contrast 55, brightness 40, sharpness 50, color 14, tint (green 52 - red 48).

I found this TV after a great deal of research. If you want a widescreen format TV, this is the one to get. It has every input and output you could ask for, both in back and on the side. I have a satellite receiver, DVD, VCR, and camcorder, and I can plug them all in at the same time, as well as a second coax input for an antenna (with the built in HD tuner you can get local channels in HD for free). The picture is brilliant and clear. One thing I was concerned about with the wide screen is how my regular shows would look. Samsung's style of stretching the picture to fit the screen is amazing. After looking and looking, my wife and I have a hard time telling that the picture is being stretched at all.
If I had to pick a downside to this set, I would say that while the manual walks you through setting up a cable box step by step, including how to program all your channels into the TV itself, it never once mentions a satellite system. I've been unable to get the Samsung remote to control my Philips DirecTV system, so I had to keep my satellite remote handy. That little issue cost my rating a star, hense 4 instead of 5 stars. All and all, this is an excellent HDTV system, and the fact that it's hundreds less than its closer competitors makes it an even better deal.

I bought this for the HDTV QAM tuner (the one that enables you to pull hi def signals off the cable). Unfortuntaly that part of the set does not work (YET). Samsung promised a fix, but it did not ship so I elected to return it (from the "Samsung' repair shop where I toook it straight from Circuit city after I bought it). THe repair shop / SAMSUNG said 7 days, then gave no ETD for the part and then made me pay a fee of $25.00 (for nothing except lying about it) so i could return it to Circuit city within one day of the 30 days) when I returned to Circuit city they would not refund the 32 dollars "Discount" I got but rather gave me gift card credit. Nice touch. Non working TV - wait one month- out $57.00! Boo. worked OK on analog did a lousy job stretching. Bought a sanyo instead. no hassles! works nice as it should.

I've had this set for 6 years now and has never let me down :) Sure it doesn't have HDMI but can handle 1080i and 720p and has all the other connections I need. It is sharp and handles fast motion very well unlike an LCD. I still like this set even though I also now use a 47" LCD LG.
Its only drawback really now is its weight since it is quite heavy :)

Amazing picture, great price, dead in less than 2 years,
This review is from: Samsung TX-P2675WH 26" Widescreen HDTV (Electronics)
I woke up New Year's morning and turned on the TV: it clicked and turned high intensity green, rendering the TV useless. I brought it to a Samsung recommended service center, and the quote for repair is $483. I was extremely satisfied with the TV while it worked, however I'm going to save the repair money and buy from a more reliable manufacturer.

This is perhaps the finest 26 inch TV I have ever owned. Even the non HD channels display a fantastic picture. Although you can't beat the resolution of the 1080i Picture. I highly recommend this television to anyone.

"Eagle USA" shipping disappoints,

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Samsung TX-P2675WH 26" Widescreen HDTV (Electronics)
The first of these sets that shipped via "Eagle USA" had been damaged inside the carton (the carton looked O.K. from the outside, so I signed for it.) - But the set had obviously been dropped, resulting in a cracked circuit board and a blown picture tube.
To be fair, Amazon is cross-shipping a replacement set, but the shipper, again "Eagle USA", has listed a tracking number for this replacement that shows some prior shipment delivered (somewhere) last July (it is now November). So I don't even know how to track the replacement set. These guys are not in the same league as FedEx, UPS or DHL. If you can avoid using "Eagle USA" for shipping this set, I'd recommend that you do so.

Read Before Purchasing a Samsung Item; Poor Customer Service, Grade F,

This review is from: Samsung TX-P2675WH 26" Widescreen HDTV (Electronics)
On December 26, 2005 I purchased a 26" Samsung TXP2675 widescreen, flat screen, high-definition television from the Rex store in Niagara Falls, NY. I enjoyed this television until March 31st, 2006 when it stopped working. Many warranties expire 90 days after purchase. I was lucky on March 31st, 96 days after purchase, that my television was under a one year warranty. It is unfortunate that this particular television broke after such a short period of time, but I attempted to rectify the situation promptly.
I called Samsung's toll-free technical support line and was instructed to try a variety of solutions (all of which I had already tried on my own before calling). Eventually, the technical support personnel gave up and gave me the number of a company that would service my TV free of charge. The Lifetime Service Center based in Buffalo, NY was willing to come and service my TV but repeatedly told me that my TV was no longer under warranty because it broke after 90 days. I checked with Rex and located my receipt and warranty information for the television and confirmed that it was still under warranty, despite the Lifetime Service Center's insistence that it was not. To their credit, the Lifetime Service Center came to repair the TV on April 3rd. Despite knowing the model of my television and having a thorough description of the problem before coming, the repairman did not have the needed parts to perform the repair. He told me he needed to order the part, and left for the day. The repairman returned on April 8th. He replaced the power supply of my television, but that did not solve the problem. This led him to conclude that it was my picture tube that was broken and that Samsung did not replace picture tubes, they simply replaced the television. He claimed he would file the paperwork immediately. In later conversations with Samsung's replacement department, they informed me that the paperwork was not filed Saturday April 8th when the problem was discovered, but Wednesday April 12th. Samsung's replacement department told me on April 17th that they did not have any of my particular model available and instead I needed to choose a different model. My choices were a 27" television that was not widescreen, or one of two 30" "SlimFit" televisions. Both of these TVs appeared to be too large to fit in the TV stand that I owned, and the customer reviews alerted me to numerous problems with these models. Offered only these three choices, I had to choose the TXR3080. It could be considered a slight upgrade over my model because of the marginally larger screen, but with such negative customer reviews I was concerned. At this point I had already been without a working television for 17 days and wanted to get another TV as soon as possible. The company in charge of delivering the TV to me, NVC Logistics Group, wanted to deliver it on Wednesday, April 26. Unfortunately, I had to work during the hours that they would be available to deliver the TV. Normally I work 9-5 Monday through Friday and NVC Logistics does not have any Saturday hours so I had no choice but to take a day off of work. Fortunately, on that Friday, I thought I would be able to leave work early and be at my house by 12:30 in the afternoon and could receive the television. This way I would only need to miss half a day of work. I received a call from NVC the night before indicating that they would deliver the TV sometime between 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM. This forced me to take a day off of work so that I could receive the TV. They did not show up between 11:00-1:00, they arrived at 10:45 AM. As the movers unpacked the TV, it was quite obvious that the TV had been damaged. One corner of the TV looked like it had been smashed with a hammer. It was apparently dropped or somehow mishandled during shipping. I refused to accept the damaged TV and called Samsung's replacement department to see how I could get a new TV delivered. Over the next hours I talked to various people at Samsung's customer service line, replacement division, and Rex. My only recourse appeared to be, "waiting for new paperwork to go through the system." At this point, 28 days after my TV broke; I thought I deserved some sort of compensation. I had been without a television for nearly a month, had missed a day of work so that I could receive a broken TV, and had undergone undue aggravation in the process. Samsung told me that my warranty would be extended for a month or two and that they would expedite shipping on the next television. I was upset that the television arrived damaged, but Samsung refused to take any responsibility for this, simply telling me that they were not responsible for damage that occurred during shipping. They choose to ship their TVs with this company, and I believed that they should be responsible for who they choose to contract work to. If a company they have selected is unable to get a TV to me unharmed, they ought to choose a different company and stand behind the services and companies they use. The "expedited shipping" appears to be an outright lie as I write this on May 11th and am still without a TV. The first TV arrived 11 days after talking to the replacement department. The next TV has not materialized after 13 days. This experience has left me with many questions. Why did my TV break so quickly? Why has it been so hard to get it replaced? Most importantly, what has become of customer service? In the past, companies strove to make their customers happy. In this instance, Samsung has shown no interest in doing anything to please me. I told them that I was not expecting a check to make restitution for my time missed from work, but an upgraded television would be a nice gesture. When I suggested that, one of the representatives at the Replacement Department laughed at my request as ridiculous. If anyone from Samsung is reading this, his name was Mike. Also, why does the replacement process have to be so convoluted? Samsung could easily have sent a money order to the store where I bought my TV and had them provide me with a new one. This solution would've gotten me a TV within days. My television broke 42 days ago. I'm still waiting. |
