For the CRT (cathode-ray tube) screen, Samsung's proprietary DynaFlat technology delivers a perfectly flat viewing surface with none of the curvature, image distortion, or detrimental glare that accompanies traditional TV screens. Hook the set up with any DTV set-top box or progressive-scan DVD player to take full advantage of its high resolution and picture-enhancing technologies.
This 800-line screen brings higher resolution than that achieved by earlier-generation sets because the individual phosphor color spots (or pixels) are smaller and closer together in this configuration. The set's multiple-focus electron gun illuminates finer spots for a more detailed picture, edge-to-edge, and it's assisted in this job by an 8-bit, 20 MHz, 3D Y/C digital comb filter and velocity-scan modulation circuitry.
Velocity-scan modulation improves the definition at picture edges, creating sharper images by slowing the CRT (cathode-ray tube) beam's horizontal scanning during demanding work--say, when rendering transitions from light to dark parts of an image--and speeding it up when scanning easily rendered sections, like broad dark areas.
Another set of image improvements is wrapped into Samsung's Pro Picture 3-stage video correction: Total DSP (Digital Signal Processing), Pro Chip Plus (converts all interlaced analog signals to superior, flicker-free progressive-scan images), and the above-mentioned three-line digital comb filter (which analyzes multiple lines of picture information to better minimize edge image artifacts while improving transition detail).
A shadow mask is a thin sheet of perforated metal behind the screen that restricts electron flow, each hole in the sheet corresponding to a single pixel. An Invar mask uses an alloy that's especially resistant to the high temperatures generated by the electron beam, allowing in a brighter, clearer picture.
The TX-P2775H performs 3:2 pulldown detection and reversal, a handy feature for watching progressive-scan movie programs in their native 24-frame format. Digital video mastering introduces a common distortion when adjusting 24-frames-per-second movies to 30 fps video; 3:2 pulldown reversal digitally corrects this distortion, removing the redundant information to display a film-frame-accurate picture.
Connections include 2 autosensing high-definition component-video inputs, 2 S-video inputs, a trio of composite-video inputs (with accompanying stereo analog RCA audio inputs), 2 RF inputs (for an older VCR or cable box), and a set of audio/video outputs for feeding a DVR or VCR. Convenient side-panel audio/video inputs foster hookups with camcorders and gaming consoles while preserving the set's uncluttered silver front panel.
A zoom screen-filling option lets you customize the view of letter-boxed DVDs from the supplied remote control, while convenient side-panel buttons let you configure the set and access its menus without having to use the remote.
The TX-P2775H's 10 watts per channel (x 2) ensures sonic clarity and an ability to play loudly via a pair of speaker stylishly positioned along the sides of the set. Several sound mode offer dynamic audio settings for whatever you're watching; choose from standard, music, movie, speech, or custom. BBE High-Definition Sound improves speech intelligibility and restores the dynamic range of compressed musical passages.
What's in the Box

A whole new experience,

This review is from: Samsung TX-P2775H 27" DynaFlat HDTV with ATSC Tuner and Neo Side-Sound (Electronics)
This is a wonderful television, picture is crystal clear and reception is good. I am using my existing off-the-air antenna and I cannot believe there are so many more digital tv channels in addition to the analog channels. I really don't need cable now. Cosidering the HDTV tuner set-top box is around $300 this days. This HDTV is a bargain in my opinion. I've notice some minor geometry misalignment on it but unless you run the test patants, most people will not notice it. If you perfer 16:9 HDTV, you can check on TX-P2670WH too. Another bargain priced HDTV is Sanyo's HT32744 which can be found on some Wal-Mart stores for $747.

My first HDTV, so...,

I might be a little bit in awe of the general picture quality and features, so my rating could be a tad high.
At first, after casually "window shopping" at my local "CC" electronics store, I liked the Sony Trinitron WEGA 27" picture the best. However, I did do quite a bit of research on the features to look for in HDTV, including number of component video inputs, progressive scan compatibility, etc, and determined that Samsung had the features (at a decent price). I went back the the store to look again. The Samsung was diagonally below the Sony so I could make the easy comparison. The picture quality was equal, but color seemed a bit better on the Samsung. It was $50 cheaper, and includes an off-air digital tuner. This means you can get digital HD broadcasts without requiring more hardware. However, if you have cable or satellite service, then yes, you still need another box. Although Samsung says all HD broadcasts are in widescreen, I found that not to be the case with several stations. In some cases, you have the ability to change the picture size from "standard" to "16:9" (with black all around) or use 2 zoom levels, so if you really want to see it full-screen, you can do so. I'm embarrassed to admit I only have cheap, bent rabbit ears right now, but I got some crystal clear signals regardless. DVD image is great. The default setting has the contrast value at 100%, which looks good to me, and the picture quality starts to fall of at lower settings. At first, I notice the image was tilted just slightly compared to the set itself - voila, a minor "tilt" feature adjustment fixed it right up. I haven't even fine tuned the color hues or color temperature yet. Samsung warns about the possibility of burning in the top and bottom of the screen with prolonged use of black bars (as in widescreen images), so if you watch a lot of widescreen movies and want a reasonably-priced CRT (cathode ray tube) screen, you might consider getting a widescreen TV. You'll get bars on the side of that when you watch "full-screen" movies or broadcasts, though. Audio is decent with a 5-band equalizer, and a couple other audio features. If you don't have the unlimited budget for LCD or plasma, this is a great alternative. I've spent about five grand at Amazon over the last 2 years, so I hope they forgive me making this purchase locally, and on sale too.

Perfect for the Price,

Original review Dec. 2004: I spent months researching the TV (largely because I couldn't afford it until after Christmas.) This is the best non plasma HDTV, period. It's basically a giant computer monitor which means it's crystal clear and will last for years. The TV has a built in HD tuner. This means you can immediately use HD-TV. I have Comcast DVR and now I get the High Definition channels, no equipment, no calls, it just works. It also has multiple inputs including DVI. DVI is a digital connection, ultra clear picture and ultra adaptable. You can hook ANYTHING up to this TV.
I would definitely recommend the 27inch over the 26inch widescreen. There are still very few HD channels and if you have cable you will still watching regular old TV. And the TV is big enough where HDTV and DVDs look just fine in letterbox. This is a high quality TV that will last you for years. The only downside is weight, it weighs a little over 100 pounds, be sure that you have help putting it in! Update: I was looking through the reviews a reviewer was wondering 5 star reviews were holding up after a time. My TV is working great, however, I did manage to drop the TV a month after I bought it and I cracked a circuit board. It wasn't a far drop...maybe 12 inches...but it is a HEAVY TV. It was doing that turn on, turn off thing as mentioned in the reviews. However, I got lucky and was able to get it repaired for $90 at a local shop and its worked great ever since. My guess is this TV is prone to damage via drops and given how quickly the TVs failed in the other reviews I bet in many cases the TV was dropped somewhere in the journey between Korea and your house. So be careful if you get one. However I still love the TV and mine works great!
