This is a wonderful television, picture is crystal clear and reception is good. Cosidering the HDTV tuner set-top box is around $300 this days. This HDTV is a bargain in my opinion. I've notice some minor geometry misalignment on it but unless you run the test patants, most people will not notice it. If you perfer 16:9 HDTV, you can check on TX-P2670WH too. Another bargain priced HDTV is Sanyo's HT32744 which can be found on some Wal-Mart stores for $747.

5.0 out of 5 stars My first HDTV, so..., December 31, 2004
This review is from: Samsung TX-P2775H 27" DynaFlat HDTV with ATSC Tuner and Neo Side-Sound (Electronics)
I might be a little bit in awe of the general picture quality and features, so my rating could be a tad high.

At first, after casually "window shopping" at my local "CC" electronics store, I liked the Sony Trinitron WEGA 27" picture the best.

However, I did do quite a bit of research on the features to look for in HDTV, including number of component video inputs, progressive scan compatibility, etc, and determined that Samsung had the features (at a decent price).

I went back the the store to look again. The Samsung was diagonally below the Sony so I could make the easy comparison. The picture quality was equal, but color seemed a bit better on the Samsung.

It was $50 cheaper, and includes an off-air digital tuner. This means you can get digital HD broadcasts without requiring more hardware. However, if you have cable or satellite service, then yes, you still need another box.

Although Samsung says all HD broadcasts are in widescreen, I found that not to be the case with several stations. In some cases, you have the ability to change the picture size from "standard" to "16:9" (with black all around) or use 2 zoom levels, so if you really want to see it full-screen, you can do so.

I'm embarrassed to admit I only have cheap, bent rabbit ears right now, but I got some crystal clear signals regardless. DVD image is great. The default setting has the contrast value at 100%, which looks good to me, and the picture quality starts to fall of at lower settings. At first, I notice the image was tilted just slightly compared to the set itself - voila, a minor "tilt" feature adjustment fixed it right up. I haven't even fine tuned the color hues or color temperature yet.

Samsung warns about the possibility of burning in the top and bottom of the screen with prolonged use of black bars (as in widescreen images), so if you watch a lot of widescreen movies and want a reasonably-priced CRT (cathode ray tube) screen, you might consider getting a widescreen TV. You'll get bars on the side of that when you watch "full-screen" movies or broadcasts, though.

Audio is decent with a 5-band equalizer, and a couple other audio features.

If you don't have the unlimited budget for LCD or plasma, this is a great alternative.

I've spent about five grand at Amazon over the last 2 years, so I hope they forgive me making this purchase locally, and on sale too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for the Price, December 31, 2004

This review is from: Samsung TX-P2775H 27" DynaFlat HDTV with ATSC Tuner and Neo Side-Sound (Electronics)
Original review Dec. 2004: I spent months researching the TV (largely because I couldn't afford it until after Christmas.) This is the best non plasma HDTV, period. It's basically a giant computer monitor which means it's crystal clear and will last for years. The TV has a built in HD tuner. This means you can immediately use HD-TV. I have Comcast DVR and now I get the High Definition channels, no equipment, no calls, it just works. It also has multiple inputs including DVI. DVI is a digital connection, ultra clear picture and ultra adaptable. You can hook ANYTHING up to this TV.

I would definitely recommend the 27inch over the 26inch widescreen. There are still very few HD channels and if you have cable you will still watching regular old TV. And the TV is big enough where HDTV and DVDs look just fine in letterbox.

This is a high quality TV that will last you for years. The only downside is weight, it weighs a little over 100 pounds, be sure that you have help putting it in!

Update: I was looking through the reviews a reviewer was wondering 5 star reviews were holding up after a time.

My TV is working great, however, I did manage to drop the TV a month after I bought it and I cracked a circuit board. It wasn't a far drop...maybe 12 inches...but it is a HEAVY TV. It was doing that turn on, turn off thing as mentioned in the reviews.

However, I got lucky and was able to get it repaired for $90 at a local shop and its worked great ever since. My guess is this TV is prone to damage via drops and given how quickly the TVs failed in the other reviews I bet in many cases the TV was dropped somewhere in the journey between Korea and your house. So be careful if you get one.

However I still love the TV and mine works great!

We purchased this on the 10th of the month, received it on the 20th, plugged it in after the delivery person left (big mistake) and no picture! Amazon considers this to be a special product and after it is delivered - Amazon won't accept it as a return. They ask that you work the "In home warranty process" with the Manufacturer. In pursuing it with Samsung, they initially told us the unit was probably a "Refurb" (Amazon said this wasn't correct). However, it is now the 23rd, and we're still awaiting a appointment date with a Servicer. So far, this is on the bad end of the spectrum of what can happen when you buy a big ticket electronics item on line. If I was to do this again, I would have plugged it in before the delivery person left and refused shipment. Other buyers beware.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best TV I have ever owned!!!!!!!!!, April 21, 2005

This review is from: Samsung TX-P2775H 27" DynaFlat HDTV with ATSC Tuner and Neo Side-Sound (Electronics)
I ordered this TV online on March 31. After 4 months of research and saving I finally got my HDTV. The picture is super sharp and clear. I was a bit worried about the sound as some who have reviewed this set have said the sound was not all that great and to use a home theater system. I found the sound to be great much better than my non stereo last TV. I use my HTS only when watching DVD movies. I do not need the local news or other programs booming just the movies. This tv has lots of inputs and outputs to meet my needs for the next few years I do not have HD programing yet but the SD Dishnetwork looks awesome. My local cable channels even have improved, a lot less snow.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good bridge, August 29, 2005
This review is from: Samsung TX-P2775H 27" DynaFlat HDTV with ATSC Tuner and Neo Side-Sound (Electronics)
Bought this after the worst product panasonic ever put out died. Great HD pic handles SD better than LCD or PLASMA. Dunno how the HD tuner is because i cant get more than one channel to work at a time (Area im in not TV) Screw it i have comcast HD 14 channels. Only 2 composite imputs but the DVI free's up the other component to use for games. Its heavy too but hell to get a 26" plasma or lcd you would spend twice as much and not get as good a picture (tv makes a 25"HD widescreen)

1.0 out of 5 stars great design + cheap components + zero quality control = 1 star, August 13, 2005
This review is from: Samsung TX-P2775H 27" DynaFlat HDTV with ATSC Tuner and Neo Side-Sound (Electronics)
I think I can tie all these reviews together. CJ in Iowa, I am so sorry to hear that your TX-P2775H was DOA. I was a little luckier than you, I got 3 weeks of use out of mine before it started turning itself off randomly and finally going completely dead. I'm betting we had the same problem, the website of the TV repair company I went to mentions defective power regulators as the most likely cause. Fortunately it was still under warranty, and I'm happy to report that the warranty covers repair plus the pick up and delivery of this 104 lb unit. So, credit to Samsung there, however, a good warranty is not as good as building a reliable TV in the first place. I'm a former Samsung buyer because I don't believe for a second that they didn't know about this problem. It's not a scientific sample, but 2 out of 6 Amazon reviewers have the same failure? And I wonder about the 5 star reviews here, how are those TVs holding up a year later?

I mentioned zero quality control. Strangely enough, the TX-P2775H that started going dead after 3 weeks was the 3rd one I brought home from the store. The first one had a heavily scratched cabinet, apparently some heavy abuse in the factory before being wrapped and sealed for shipment. A thousand thanks to my local CC retailer, who took it back and gave me another one. And then, yes, the 2nd one also had a scratched cabinet. Not as bad as the first, but I was in no mood at that point. I took the 2nd one back and a thousand thanks again to the retailer, they gave me Samsung #3 with no questions. #3 is scratched as well, but not too badly. I think it's the best I'll be able to do, although you might hope that after paying this kind of money your brand new HDTV would be in unscratched, mint condition. Obviously zero quality control at Samsung, there's no way any of these 3 units should have passed final inspection and been boxed up for a trip across the ocean.

With that said, I can also confirm that the 5 star reviews here are not wrong. Other than the lack of quality control and the unreliable components, this is a great TV. If you go to your local retailer, the Samsung TX-P2775H may be next to a Sony unit with an equally good picture, but look more closely: that Sony unit is just an HD monitor and you have to buy an HD tuner to go along with it. I mentioned great design, by that I mean not just the great picture but the intuitive, easy to use menu and the ton of inputs in the back.

There's a sad ending to this review: although it was fixed a month ago, my TX-P2775H is already starting again to go dead randomly, just as it did about 2 weeks before going completely dead. Oh well, it's a 1 year warranty.....

1.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful two weeks, October 25, 2005
This review is from: Samsung TX-P2775H 27" DynaFlat HDTV with ATSC Tuner and Neo Side-Sound (Electronics)
Just like several reviews below, my tv died after two weeks and began to turn itself off and on. After working with Samsung for two months they finally offered to give me a replacement...which is worth less than this one. Thanks for tv!

1.0 out of 5 stars Buzzing comes from the speakers and Samsung says it's normal?, September 26, 2005

I'm happy with everything about this TV except it has a loug buzzing noise that comes from the speakers all the time. It's not something that's soft, as it's quite annoying sitting 13' away from the TV. I've tried different stations, raising and lowering the volume and different component inputs, but it always buzzes. I called Samsung to see if something can be done, and they said it was normal for this TV to buzz. I guess this one is going back. Sure glad I didn't buy it online. . .
