2.0 out of 5 stars Plagued by sound problems, August 2, 2005

This review is from: Samsung TX-R2035 20" DynaFlat CRT TV (Electronics)
The picture on this TV is great; it rivals many of the Sony TVs. However, this TV is plagued by constant sound problems. After 2 weeks of light usage, the left speaker went out. It only comes back on if you raise the volume past 25 and it stays on for a while. Then it thens back off. This problem isn't isolated to this model either. If you read the reviews on Amazon for the TX-R2036 model, that 20" Samsung is also plagued by the same speaker problems. As of right now, for that model, more than 5 users have posted the exact same speaker problems.

In addition, the output of the TV has a constant hum. It is very noticeable when you have headphones or when you have the output plugged into a subwoofer. The hum causes the subwoofer to constantly grumble, making it impossible to watch TV.

I strongly recommend staying alway from these Samsung CRT TVs until they get it together with the speaker issues.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor Quality, August 26, 2006
By
This review is from: Samsung TX-R2035 20" DynaFlat CRT TV (Electronics)
This is the 3rd TV of this model I've had. I have returned the previous 2 to the point of purchase for an exchange due to what seems to be an all too common right speaker malfunction. It also randomly shuts off. The first was dead right out of the box, the second speaker died less than 30 days after purchase, this third one lasted 10 months. Samsung has refused to repair this tv. There are 2 months of warranty left BUT labor is not covered except for the first 3 months. This is the final straw for me. I will never even consider a product made by Samsung. I will also check other brands to make sure they are not re-branded Sansung units. I would encourage others to be wary of the shabby workmanship and customer service that this company offers. This is completely unacceptable in this day in age. I wish there was something lower than 1 star because the product is not even worth this 1 star rating.

3.0 out of 5 stars Had some problems, April 24, 2006
This review is from: Samsung TX-R2035 20" DynaFlat CRT TV (Electronics)
I had owned this TV for about 9 months until I decided to get rid of it. Within just a month, I noticed that the right speak kept shorting out. It would go dead and I could only hear the left one. I would have to turn it volume up to 35 or so for it to come back on. And when I turned it back down to normal volume, it would go out again within minutes. Then later on, I noticed that everytime a white background or anything pure white came up on the screen, it would go crazy. The white portion would just go bazerk. It was really annoying. So I finally decided to get rid of it and switch over to a 27" philips. Hopefully this Samsung was just a bad unit that was sold to me from Best Buy brand new. (Unfortuantly.) Besides the flaws, it was a good TV. The sound was great with it was fully functioning and the picture was great (when there wasn't any white.)

I thought I was purchasing a spectacular product. The television had great picture and the sound options were amazing. However, less than a month later the right speaker began to cut out. My husband and I exchanged it for another.. only to have the same problem again, unfortunately after the 30 day return period. I'm now currently going round and round with the customer service department. They want to charge me more than the tv's worth just to fix it. Not only that, but I've never dealt with a more obstinate customer service department that tries really hard to make the consumer feel like they're making their problems up, rather than fixing them.

DO NOT BUY THIS TV! You'll be taking a risk buying any other Samsung products as well, since they just told my husband that apparently NO ONE in the company has the authorization to give us an exchange order.

1.0 out of 5 stars Problem with Picture, June 11, 2006
This review is from: Samsung TX-R2035 20" DynaFlat CRT TV (Electronics)
I had serious problems with the picture quality. I bought it at best buy and ended up returning it after customer service couldn't figure out what was wrong with it. other reviews say there is an audio problem too. I personally didn't have trouble with that, but be aware that there are problems with this TV.

After just over a year, my fabulous Panasonic 20-inch TV started having problems. I've been confined to my home for 3 years and can't be without a TV so I purchased this one (Samsung TXR2035) because it seemed to most fit my requirements for physical size, cost, etc., and had to purchase/set it up before the Panasonic completely died. I bought it around mid-February and within 2 days I was spastic, wondering what in the hell I'd purchased. I tried to watch the French Open (played on red clay) and could never find a setting that worked so I could clearly see the ball in the far court. It was maddening as hell. After hours on the phone with Samsung, and anyone else I thought could help me, I went down the path of trying to return it. Of course, I couldn't return it because it wasn't
"defective." After much frothing at the mouth, a local Circuit City store said they would take it off my hands within the 30-day return cycle date. Problem was they had no other 20-incher to replace it, except the Panasonic model I loved so much, but they only had floor models (used for 12 months). The other major problem with this TV I read about in a review somewhere, but it was a 24-inch Samsung. I tried to find out if this model had the same menu problem and never could. So I went ahead a bought it. THe problem is that the bozo who designed the menus cleverly made them almost fill the screen and worse, they're opaque. So, when you select the menu to adjust the picture attributes, a large, solid square appears, almost covering the entire picture. It's hell trying to figure out what's happening as you try to adjust dozens of times through the many options, hoping you'll finally be able to see the stupid tennis ball. But, I had no success. I was frazzled! The other serious flaw with the picture adjustment menus (it has 4, which sounds great, but hold on a second)is that three of the four different menus do not hold your special selections, and instead default back to a factory setting, which seems absolutely arbitrary. So, I would spend minute after minute scrolling through these three menus trying different settings and then have to exit the menu to see what I'd accomplished. It usually didn't work properly, so when I'd go back to that menu it was back on the factory setting, not where I'd just set it to. It's enough to drive you totally mad.
This TV provides excellent quality video for all foreground images, however. But, background images are another kettle of fish! For example, I cannot clearly see even the first row of spectators at the tennis match, unlike the Panasonic, where I could not only see several rows back, but I frequently could even identify a celebrity in the audience!
I've been told by several people that I should try replacing the regular coax cables I have with component cabling, which I'll have someone do for me soon. I hope that improves matters. If it does not, I guess I'm stuck with this one. One thing is for sure, this Samsung TV is no where near the quality of the Panasonic TV that started to go on me. And, unfortunately, these 20 inchers are basically throwaways when something goes wrong, unless you can fix it yourself.

1.0 out of 5 stars Hand Me the Aspirin, April 7, 2007
This review is from: Samsung TX-R2035 20" DynaFlat CRT TV (Electronics)
Picture is adequate and some features are slightly better than that, but the television makes buzzing noises of varying pitches and volumes even with the sound all the way down. It seems that certain colors in the picture (I'm guessing white) cause the noises. When watching TNT with the rotating promo graphics over the bottom and right of the screen it sounds like a construction crew at work. Get it together Samsung.

3.0 out of 5 stars Display not perfect. Sound great., March 16, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Samsung TX-R2035 20" DynaFlat CRT TV (Electronics)
I really liked this TV when I first received this TV. I compared it side by side with my older Sony 20" flat tube TV and found it can hold its own as far as the picture's concerned and the speakers sounded more powerful.

However I quickly discovered an issue that greatly bothered me when I was watching letter boxed movies on this TV. The horizontal lines were not parallel and could not be corrected. In my case it was most obvious on the left side, where the display tilted upward. The same problem on this model was reported on web by some other people too. Since I am very sensitive to display distortions, it makes the TV unacceptable to my standard.

In fact similar problem can be found with other Samsung flat CRT dislpays. For example, my 19" computer monitor has problem displaying straight vertical lines.

This is superb little television its color quailty and sound clarity are not the best but if you are looking at this TV you are really not trying to look for best you just don't want the worst right First off this TV has every connection one would need for traditional analog connections this means it supports cable, s-video, multible RCA(or Stereo), and componet it claims to be a flat screen this is true to a point which means the screen that is on the outside is a flat peice of glass or heavy pvc plastic the screen underneath this is curved just as an old crt TV would be but it does have a bennefit of producing a much sharper image that a convex crt TV could not produce because they use this glass trick. This TV does have some sound issues when you use the built in speakers which apear to be attached as a design element but when you have a TV with componet connections to play a good dvd to really get the sound you want it is a must to combine this with a sterero system ether a little desktop 2.1 system or a monster 7.1 blow the walls out stereo system( note if you going to get stereo system to compliment this the desktops will do just fine if use a big 7.1 you will probelly want a bigger TV)! Add all this up and makes a great buy at an exceptional value.

1.0 out of 5 stars Nice looking, too bad there was no picture - no replacement?, August 12, 2005
This review is from: Samsung TX-R2035 20" DynaFlat CRT TV (Electronics)
Ordered the this TV from Amazon because it was the best price I could find. Product delivered with cracked case and no picture showed up when turned on. Is this a Samsung defect or did Amazon just send me a damaged TV - not sure, but read on.

I asked Amazon to replace the TV. They said there were no more available?!?! Well, that's weird since my search showed they were still offering the same exact TV at the same price!
Makes you wonder what is going on here. Support? There is no phone number to call anywhere on the web site. Their email support was very responsive, but no one would give me a phone number to discuss the situation.

At least they paid to ship the item back.
